Heading to Macau

The famous bamboo scaffolding of Hong Kong, and I was in luck today. The workers have placed their harnesses. The first time I've seen workers. I've been looking up at these scaffolds and no workers.

My wife is taking a photo with the bamboo scaffolding. This whole scaffolding is located near the hotel where I was staying.

One of the world's only cities where scaffolding is made of bamboo. These bamboo structures can go up quite high, to at times twenty to thirty stories. Imagine being that high up and doing repairs and construction.

We were planning to go to Macao. The last time I visited Macao was a long time ago.

Got into the MTR and headed to the ferry port.

I usually plan ahead to see which route I have to take to the destination. One rule in the MTR that everyone needs to adhere to is the no eating or drinking rule. It is a must to obey that rule or else there is a fine.

I brought around my metal bottle that fit at the side of the bag from Malaysia.

The long escalators go down to some of the stations beneath.

It is convenient to travel around Hong Kong as the public transport is efficient. This is one of those cities where I do not have any desire to drive.

I was in Perth a couple of months ago, and I rented a car to drive around.

We reached Central. This is one of the main interchanges here.

Finally, we reached Shueng Wan. This is the station that is just beneath the Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal. For tourist, there was a free ticket that I could register with my passport for a free trip to Macau from Hong Kong.

After a bit of walking, we were near the ferry port. I had no idea where I was going to go to. There were two destinations that you could choose from: Hong Kong to Macau. Taipa or Cotai. I had no idea that Macau had two, but the Cotai one was quite packed, so I went for the Taipa one. I did not plan this, but just went with the flow and saw where I could reach. That is how I usually travel nowadays. Plan the day itself and just go for it.

I chose the Cotai Jet but travelled to the Taipa terminal. After redeeming our tickets, we went into the terminal and went to the standby waiting list. Although my ticket was at around 12.30 p.m. but if there were seats available for the 12 p.m.

We luckily got into the 12 p.m. I had no idea which part of Macau I was heading to but I knew that there were free buses that I did not know how to use initially.

After waiting for half an hour, we were on the ferry. It is a one-hour ferry trip from Hong Kong to Macau. The other option is that you can sit in a bus that rides along the Zhuhai Macau bridge that runs twenty fours hours a day.

After that, we were on our way to the ferry. Earlier by half an hour. I did not know where I was heading in Macau, but my wife had a list. I just need to make sure that I achieved those targets. Usually, my wife prepares the hit list of places to visit. I figured out how to go to these places. I guess I love that part, which is a bit like solving puzzles.

We had a few places that we wanted to visit in Macau.

The Eiffel tower of Macau as well as the Ruins of Saint Paul. There was also a restaurant there that we wanted to check out.

I will slowly embed some of the videos from the trip here in case you want to watch.

Seeing the bamboo scaffolding up close, especially with workers on it, made me stop and appreciate the skill and courage it takes to work that high.
