When it skipped my mind

spurce

Early this year, or sometime last year, I can not remember correctly when I shared a story about how I had traveled down to the village. On my way, after I had gotten to the bus park and took a tricycle which was to drop me off at a junction from where I'd catch a cab that would take me to my hometown, I forgot my bag in the tricycle. In the bag were items ranging from a new suit I had had a tailor make for me, Teo new shoes I had a gotten, a pair of trousers, some shirts and my personal effects.

I had traveled with two bags and only managed to remember to carry the one which I had kept on my lap just because it was on my lap. To date, I still can not fathom how I forgot that bag. Scratch that. Forgetting things like these is almost becoming the bane for me. My siblings, even before listening to the entire story had blamed me, saying that I was always doing this thing - forgetting. Maybe that was the first of such on a journey, but it wasn't my first time forgetting something. I mean, even on my return to my home from the village, I had managed to forget my newly purchased iPhone. Lucky for me, my mum had seen it where it was lying around somewhere in our living room back in the village and not sure who it belonged to, she had kept it safe with the hope that the owner would realize it was missing and go to retrieve it. It was a near-miss for me on that one. On several occasions, I'd gone to the market, bought stuff, and managed not to go home with it. Oh, it doesn't even end there.

The issue from forgetting my bag on that tricycle affected me really badly because most of my outfits were there. It hurt me the most cause they were new, important stuff. To add salt to injury, they were expensive. They'd eaten some good amount from my wallet. Throughout my stay at the village, I barely had anything to wear. I had to keep washing each clothe I took off just so I'd not run out of clean clothes. I think I only had two T-shirts, one pole and two pairs of trousers. It was so bad. Lucky for me, I was there a few days before one of my cousins who loved in town traveled back home with some clothes for me. I had, while we were talking, told him about what happened.
That helped me.

Ever since that incident, one thing I have tried to do while traveling is ensure that I use just one bag. I make sure that all I'd go with fits in a bag. That way, it will be impossible to forget anything. But if by chance I had to travel with more than one luggage, I ensure that I keep them very close to me, where it'd be impossible to miss or forget.

I hope that this was interesting to read. Thanks for gracing this post.
