ONE OF MY EARLIEST, FONDEST MEMORIES

Hello to the members of this community. It's been a while since I was here.
For my response, I would be sharing my earliest childhood memory. It brings me so much nostalgia and excitement thinking about it. It is one that has, in spite of changes and growth, and newer experiences, has managed to remain clear in my mind.

It's about family. Growing up, Christmas was a big deal to my family. Still is. One very important and highly expected event around that time was that my family consisting of my parents, I, and my siblings would all travel down to the village to spend the holidays there. We never issued a year for anything. It was always exciting because all(or most) of our relatives returned too. In my country, the people of my tribe are known for always traveling back to their villages for the festive holiday. People outside the tribe often question why, but I guess they would never know unless they partook in it. The joys of getting to see everyone else and reunite after over eleven months of being apart is immeasurable. I always looked forward to seeing my grandma, aunties, uncles, and cousins and just having fun and catching up.

During this time, there was always a lot to eat and drink. My cousins and I would usually never be home during the day unless we were hungry. We hung around with other kids from the village, we visited the streams, we went to watch football games, we played a lot, we took long walks even through paths we had never been to before, we explored and even went to watch the masquerades perform. It was so much fun. Our parents did not make us keep to the regular rules we would back at the townships we lived in. We were free to do as we wished, and we sometimes didn't have to do any chores. It's believed that as far as we were in our hometown, our village, we were safe. And it was true. It was home and at home, we are relaxed, and we let our guards down and enjoy the peace that comes from being in our safe space.

I hope that this was interesting to read.
Thanks for soming around.
