Putting A Check On My Digital Life!

I believe that having a more organized digital life is the dream of everyone in the digital world, especially, anyone tired of digital clutter, lost files, and endless notifications.

Sadly, I can't really say if my digital life is as organized as it should be. I actually do not have any scheduled times to check and respond to emails, update my social media, and backup files. You can say that I go with the flow. But that doesn't mean I allow myself to be lost in the crowd, lol. Sometimes, I try to put things in check as much as I can.

So when it comes to keeping my digital life in check, I'm what you'll describe as;

a little to the right, a little to the left. Lol.

I must confess that I have a poor habit of not checking my email messages on a regular basis. In fact, I often go a day or two without checking my inbox. However, my usual approach to staying abreast of my mails is to quickly take a glance on my screen whenever I receive a notification. If it's not important, I ignore it. But if it requires my attention, I'll then open it up and read through, after which I'll respond accordingly.

As a result of this irregular email check, I've gotten a pile up of unread messages. Well, some of these mails are actually spams, app notifications, transaction receipts, and newsletters, that's why I don't bother opening them.

Sometime last week, I had to unsubscribe from some of these newsletters, leaving only relevant ones. I also took time to clean up my inbox, deleting some unnecessary and old messages to reduce the clutter and noise in my inbox. I'm sure my mailbox enjoyed a breath of fresh air after that 😅.

Apart from WhatsApp, which I constantly keep tab on the notifications, my other social media accounts - Facebook, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn suffer the same neglect as my email account. My phone is my second office, and my WhatsApp is my work desk, my business hub, and my primary channel for client communication. As a result, I'm always checking my WhatsApp messages, promptly responding to client inquiries, and facilitating transactions.

I also tend to ignore unimportant messages, particularly those from unwanted DM senders. When it becomes unbearable, I activate the block button asap. To avoid unwanted group additions, I've set WhatsApp to only allow contacts to add me to groups. I equally mute notifications for some of the groups to minimize distractions and reduce noise and clutter.

My X account has long been suspended. I've submitted a report, but haven't followed up on the outcome. Before the suspension, I wasn't a regular user, except for joining Inleo X Spaces or completing campaign and airdrop tasks. Then from there, I can check my messages and reply, if need be.

Facebook and LinkedIn are the worst affected. I have hundreds of notifications which I haven't bothered to check. To be honest, I've lost interest in Facebook lately. It's not uncommon for me to go weeks without logging in. For LinkedIn, I uninstalled it some time last year because it was occupying space like matter, lol. Moreover, I didn't see the need for keeping it since it wasn't so relevant. I also do same with other apps that haven't been in use for months. They're better off uninstalled than occupying space, causing cluster and slowing my device.

I'm intentional about organizing my phone's home screen. I arranged my apps in a way that make them easily accessible.

I don't like clutter, so I keep only frequently used apps on the main screen. Less-used apps go to the "Freezer" to cool off, freeing up space and keeping my phone looking tidy. I also use ad blockers to get rid of annoying ads, and equally disable notifications on my browsers.

My calendar is a vital tool that keeps me organized. I always mark important dates, appointments, and reminders so I can stay on track and meet my deadlines.

My phone's notebook app is my go-to tool for journaling, drafting contents and setting up to-do lists. I use it to jot ideas for blogs, scripts, and work stuffs. I also use it to keep track of my daily activities, making it an essential part of my daily routine.

Lastly, I use a file manager to keep all files organized and easily accessible. Doing so helps me quickly locate specific documents, avoid duplicates, and free up storage space.
