My First Cash!

Growing up, I loved dancing, I still do, though I no longer dance much. You know, age is around the corner. Hehehe. Back then, I was part of my primary school's dance group and even led the dancers at my Block Rosary center. Oh, I remember those good old days that I'd dance myself out at home, church, birthday parties, name it. I was a hot stepper. Hehehe.

But one experience that's still etched in my memory was when I won money - my first ever earning, at a birthday party dance competition in my neighborhood. It was in the 90's and Makosa dance was the trending dance move.

On that fateful, I arrived the birthday party, hoping to have fun, eat cake, sweets and the famous Nigerian jellof rice, including indulging in my favorite soft drink - Fanta, and then go home with lots of souvenir gifts and balloons. Lol! But little did I know that fate has better plans for me.

The party was in full swing, with lots of fun activities - trivia or question and answer game, ballon game, musical chair and dance competition, which came last. Although I played in the other games and won prizes, I was eagerly waiting for the dance competition, so I can beat my competitors hands down. I was that confident, Lol!

Finally, the MC announced the dance competition and invited interested kids to step forward. I didn't wait for the second call - I rushed out to the floor. 😂 Don't blame me, the beats were calling me and I couldn't resist to indulge! And boy, I danced my heart out, and won! In fact, I stole the show! So I got the prize money - 20 Nigerian naira, which was a significant amount back then.

Oh, I remember the excitement I felt. I was over the moon, and was eager to get home and hand the money over to my mom - my bank then. 😂 But mostly is the pride I felt from earning my first cash from my talent, when some other kids were shy to even move a leg. I felt like a professional dancer already. 😅

That event, which I would describe as a small moment helped shape my confidence and passion to pursue a career in dancing, But life happened and I ended up in a different field. Nevertheless, I still love dancing. 💃
