My Experience With "One Chance Operators!"
Hello community people, how are you all doing. It's Talking It Out Thursday so I've got something to share with you.
So this morning while waiting along the main road to board a Keke tricycle that will take me to the junction before picking another one to the office, I saw this Toyota camry car approaching and the driver signaled if I was heading towards the junction to which I nodded and even flanked him. Two other people, a male and a female were seated in the car with him. The male was at the front seat while the female was seated at the back. Another lady was standing beside me also waiting for a Keke and we've been there for like ten minutes without getting any empty Keke to pick us. Not too far from where we were stood other people waiting for Keke too. It's morning so there's usually a rush around here. Most of the Keke drivers go for school runs and charter or is it drop, so that leaves only few of them on the roads at that time of the day and the demand is much. Sometimes, people will just lap each other to ensure that they get moving on time, hehehe. So seeing a free ride was a great relief. Don't look at me like that, I don't use to enter free rides oo 🤣
As the Camry driver saw that I showed interest in joining them, he slowed down a bit just a few inches away from me and as I moved closer to the car so that I can enter, the lady also followed me behind. Seeing that the lady wanted to join me too the driver drove off immediately. Ha! who did I offend that didn't want me to enjoy this free ride today 😥. In my mind I said maybe the driver thought I looked familiar, no, that my face looks so family but on seeing that I wasn't, he had to go his way. Such things happen so I wouldn't fault him. The lady too was surprised by what happened but what can she do. Na two of us dem shun, lol. 🤣
But it was when the driver did same thing to another lady and a guy standing some metres away from us that I knew they had something up their sleeves. Like how will he signal someone asking if the person were going his way and when they now want to join, he zooms off. Is it not craze that's doing him?, hehehe. Yes it's the craze of the "one chance deal" he's into that's pursuing him.
What these guys do is to pick up just one person and as the journey progresses, they will start discussing business related to goods - materials, jewelry, just anything, that are in a warehouse somewhere and ask if you are interested to buy at a very discounted rate. Infact they will tell you they want to auction it so they can raise money to bring in more. Others will tell you to bring money so they can double it for you, they are money doublers.
Some others will base on foreign currency deal. One of the passengers, usually a foreigner with a fake accent, will always be stranded as he doesn't know where to change the foreign currency he has with him so he will ask if anyone knows where he can do that, he will even promise to give some money to whomever that helps him. At this point, the other passengers, their team member will decline not knowing and the focus will be on the catch.
If the catch ever opens mouth to say pim, either yes or no, to any of the proposals, hehehe, the person is a goner for life, charmed or is it hypnotized. They will take every valuable on him, money and even tell him to go and bring more. The person will heed because by then he is no longer with his senses.
Well they were lucky to have not picked me because I would have been their end.
Yes, I'm the war, the fight, in fact I have powers, 💪, oh my world 🤣.
This incident took me back memory lane to the first time I encounter these set of lazy bones some years. Yes they are lazy with no brains. It was one fateful evening around past 6, I had closed from work and was walking down from Eziukwu road to Bata junction to board a Keke home. I had walked some distance, just by the fuel station beside Market Square now, then it hasn't been built, this Keke came along and the driver was shouting "Ogbor Hill, Ogbor hill". I flagged it, it stopped and I and entered happy that it has saved me from more trekking down to the junction and the rush that usually happens there especially during evening hours. I do board Keke from there sometimes so it wasn't unusual.
Two other passengers, all males were already seated. One at the front with the driver, the other one at the back and with me there, one chance was remaining. As we got closer to the roundabout at Bata junction, I was expecting that he would pick one more passenger as many people were standing by the road waiting for means to get to their destinations but he didn't. Instead he sped past as if being pursued by his village people, lol.
Well, I didn't think much of it as some drivers prefer picking along the way instead of loading at the junction and then giving one lousy agbero money for doing nothing. But why the speed, I thought, no something isn't right. I wanted to tell him to slow down but instead I looked back and saw some people pointing toward us, apparently they have decoded what was happening. In their mind they might be saying "chai, this lady has entered one chance".
I have entered one chance, no doubt but they won't succeed. I just said some silent prayer and with all alertness was waiting for their next move.
As we passed Fidelity bank just before AKTC Park, the driver stopped. The passenger, one of them too who seated beside him alighted, dipped hands in his pocket, brought out one foreign currency, the color of the new ₦200 Nigerian
note and gave the driver as per his fare. On seeing the money, the driver asked "what is this, why are you giving me this foreign money, abeg take and give me naira". The so called passenger replied that it was the only currency on him and that he just came into town and knows no where. He even brought out some more as proof.
I smiled and without waiting for the next question and answer session, I alighted, no, I jumped down and quickly moved away from them. Seeing that their plans have been bursted, he quickly got in at the back and they zoomed off with my shout of lousy fools trailing them.
If I hadn't come down when I did, the next thing would have been for us to look for where to change the money and I will get some share. Of course the other passenger will agree with the idea since he's one of them. Then the guy will enter at the back so we can continue discussing and that will be the end of me. I will either be taken to an unknown destination to be used either as object of ritual or will be hypnotized to go bring money for them by all means. The only thing that will save me is if someone notices my unusual action and slaps the daylight out of me, 🤣🤣. It's funny but that's the antidote as they said.
I was lucky to have escaped because I don't get moved by such things. I am contented with myself. I was meant to understand that most of the people who got duped was out of greed. I don't understand how someone I don't know from anywhere will propose that I join him to go change foreign money with a promise to give me some share and I will accept, who does that.
Apart from those who were charmed immediately they entered one chance without engaging in any discussion, others who experienced this foreign currency change or the buying of goods at an undisclosed place and agreed to the deal have a high percentage of greed trait in them and should not expect sympathy.
