Fungi In My Frontyard!
Hello everyone. Friday is here again and I hope you're looking forward to having a fun and memorable weekend. I'm actually looking forward to it. Lol. Again, I'm glad to be here to share my fungi finds with you all.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some fungi growing on pieces of plywood in my yard. They were actually growing on the plywood that was used to construct a sewage tank for a new house in my yard.

Another one was on a piece of plywood lying inside one of the uncompleted rooms. To imagine that I've been on the look to capture some fungi for a long time now, without knowing that I'd find some right inside my yard. How excited I was.

However, since they were still small then and I wasn't sure what type of fungi they were, I decided to let them grow a bit more, to develop more characteristics, so I could identify them better.
I kept checking on them until they've grown a bit and I saw that they were inedible. I had hoped they were. Lol. Since I couldn't forage them, I had to let grow more until when I'm ready to snap them.
Fast forward to the day I was ready, I used Google Lens to search for the name and the result showed that it's type of bracket fungus, commonly known as the "Thin-Leather Bracket or Thin-walled Maze Polypore - Daedaleopsis confragosa."
Daedaleopsis confragosa is a specie of polypore fungus in the family Polyporaceae, and they can be found in various parts of the world, including Africa. Little wonder I found them growing here in Aba, Nigeria.

They mainly grow on dead or dying trees or woods. I've seen them a couple of times before now and usually call them handfan mushroom, a name which stems from their wavy fan like look. Lol. I'm sure you'd agree with me on this.

To highlight the color, I applied cinematic feature to capture this shot.

A close up shot.

Curious about the texture, I gently touched it and found that it was quite firm, almost as hard as the wood it was growing on. Given it's habitat, it made sense that it had a bit of a woody feel to it.

And they have beautiful look too. Can you see how the underside looks? Almost like a honeycomb. Nature is truly wonderful!

Thank you for coming around. Until I write again, do have a pleasant weekend.
Peace.
