Weekly Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: The Other Guys

Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Community Engagement Challenge! In today's post I'll talk about #ForgottenCards or underappreciated cards--the other guys. They're the ones who do the dirty work, take the hits, and never get the glory. In Splinterlands, they're the non-meta cards. Cards that don't have great abilities or have abilities so niche that it does not influence the battle at all. Let's take a look at some of them.

Kulu Swimhunter

First on the list is Kulu Swimhunter. It is a common Water splinter that deals four ranged damage at maxed level. It's quite fast with five speed and has decent six health. It only requires four mana to field in battle but it has no abilities. I usually include the Kulu Swimhunter in my line up when I use the Water splinter. It's easy to slot in because it only needs four mana. As a backline unit, it helps eliminate the enemy tank with its ranged damage and it helps absorb damage from enemy Sneak attackers.

Aside from regular battles, the Kulu Swimhunter is ideal to use in Little League, Back to Basics and Going the Distance rulesets. In the following battle, the rule includes Little League. Both my opponent and I had the reliable Kulu Swimhunter in our lineup.

Scavo Firebolt

Next in our list is the Scavo Firebolt. It's a four mana, rare Fire Splinter. Similar to Kulu Swimhunter, it also deals four ranged damage at max levels. It has decent speed of four and health of six. It has the Knockout ability but it needs the target to be stunned to be useful. It's role in battle is similar to the Kulu Swimhunter, a decent damage dealer in the backline and can absorb Sneak attacks. It's also great in rulesets like Little League, Going the Distance and Back to Basics.

In the following battle, my backline units Scavo Firebolt and Firecaller helped me win. Both deal three ranged damage and worked well to eliminate the enemy tank units.

Magi of Chaos

The Magi of Chaos is an epic Neutral splinter card. At maxed level, it deals huge magic damage of four, a bit slow with only two speed and has decent health of seven. It has the Oppress ability making it effective against units that has no attacks. Unlike other magic type units, its ability is niche that in most battles, we can only rely on the its decent damage potential. In some battles, I also use the Magi of Chaos as a tank or secondary tank because of its high health.

The Magi of Chaos is great in low mana battles, in Keep Your Distance, Back to Basics and Shades of Grey rulesets. In the following battle, the ruleset was Shades of Grey or only neutral units can be used. I used Legionnaire Alvar in first position (probably another underrated card) and Magi of Chaos in second position. The ruleset also include "Are you not entertained?" which allows Gladiator cards. My opponent's strategy was to build his team around Tatiana Blayde, a legendary neutral Gladiator card. It was buffed by the Venari Marksrat's Martyr ability twice but was dispelled by my Spirit Hoarder. In this battle, the Magi of Chaos was my main damage dealer with four magic damage.

Conclusion

A team can have the meta cards, the star cards that help win battles. And then there's the other cards, the ones who help deal damage and guard the backline. Battles cannot be won by single cards alone, a great team needs role players to help and do their part. That's where the underappreciated cards come in. I don't have most of the meta and expensive cards but I can still win battles and beat teams with much better and costly cards. In Splinterlands, it's not about having the best cards, it's about having the best team.
