Playing the Counterspell Ruleset

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog. In today's post, I'll show how I play the Counterspell ruleset. I'll share the general strategy on playing it and how to go around the ruleset to gain an advantage over your enemy.
Counterspell Ruleset
In the Counterspell ruleset, all units have the Magic Reflect ability that returns 50% damage to the attacker. This means that the higher the magic damage, the higher the return damage. Generally, you should not use magic units and focus on physical units only. At the same time, use units with heavy armor, units with Shield and Repair ability to help defend against physical attacks. I go around this rule by using a magic unit with Deflect ability making it unaffected by Magic Reflect.
My Carry Card in this Ruleset
A carry card is the card that gives me a distinct advantage in battles. In the Counterspell ruleset, my carry card is the Night Reaper.

This card gives me a lot of value and is also my carry card in Earthquake rulesets because of its twin abilities of Fying and Wingbreak. It also has Deflect ability making it immune to Magic Reflect. Since the enemy will be using units with heavy armor, having a magic unit in the team will give me a huge advantage.
Featured Battle
In this battle, not only was there Counterspell but also Heavy Metal, so only armored units can be summoned.

I used my usual strategy of having dual tanks in the frontline and a taunt unit in the back. This helps divide the enemy attacks and spread the damage. My team was composed of the following units.
Drybone Megalodon
Drybone Megalodon deals four melee damage and has three speed. It has three armor and seven health on defense. It has the Flank ability allowing me to use another tank in second position. It also has the Retaliate ability to counterattack against melee attackers.
Molten Elemental
Molten Elemental is my second tank. It deals dual damage of two ranged and melee. It has four speed, an armor and five health. It has the Flying ability so I also use it in Earthquake rulesets. It has the Void abiity to defend against magic attacks.
Grove Doomblade
Grove Doomblade is one of the best reward cards. It deals huge melee damage of five, has three armor and six health. It's awfully slow with only one speed though. It can wreck the enemy's rear with Sneak attacks and is a counter to Taunt units because of its Fury ability.
Night Reaper
My carry card in this battle. The Night Reaper deals three magic damage without suffering from Magic Reflect. It has decent defense of an armor and ten health making it a viable tank.
Chaos Battlemage
The Chaos Battlemage deals three ranged damage and is fast with four speed. It has an armor and five health on defense. It has Piercing which is an important ability in this battle as it enables its excess damage to go through the enemy's armor. It also has Rebirth, enabling it to resurrect once per battle.
Syrenth
Syrenth is an important card in my strategy because of its Taunt ability. It spreads the enemy damage and help save my tank and damage dealers. On offense it deals four range damage and has middling speed of two. It has an armor and nine health on defense coupled with its Dodge ability.
The enemy team went heavy on armor as he used the Frontier archon that gives an extra armor stat. He had the beefy tank Der Gottem Gearnut followed by damaged dealers. He had a unit with Repair ability to help increase their defense. My advantage in having a magic unit that does not suffer from Magic Reflect was crucial in this battle. Magic goes through armor and helped me deal damage early before the enemy's armor gets destroyed. If I used purely units with physical damage, it would have taken a long time to take down the enemy's Der Gottem Gearnut and I would have lost.
