A Rich Culture and Heritage: Exploring “The Igorot Stone Kingdom” in Baguio City, Philippines
Hello my dear Hivers! Hello wonderful people of @worldmappin community! Another day, another blog…
Today, I am excited to share with you my lovely adventure and experience in one of the most captivating places I have visited in Baguio City last August 2022. This was the time when my co-worker and I attended a 3-day seminar here in the City of Pines. And we made sure to include this lovely place in our itinerary.
This place was called “The Igorot Stone Kingdom”. It is known as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Baguio City. And this was the first tourist spot that we have visited after our 1st day of Seminar, since we want to unwind and explore beautiful places here in Baguio. We rode a taxi going there and it took us about 15 minutes to finally arrived to the location. There are already lots of tourists when we entered the place. Even though it was quite packed, my excitement did not fade.
As I looked around, I was truly amazed by the breathtaking sight before me. The stone structures were carefully arranged to form a magnificent kingdom. It felt like a masterpiece that holds the culture and history of Baguio City. The unique design and craftsmanship gave that place an enchanting charm to every people that will look at it. I could not help but want to explore every corner.
They also had a wishing well, so I tossed in some coins and made a heartfelt wish. I even saw an atm card inside the wishing well, and I could not help but think, “Wow, the owner must have wished for something really big!” And it made me chuckle a bit, imagining what kind of wish would make someone toss in not just pure coins but an actual atm card.
We walked our way up until we reached the highest part of the Igorot Stone Kingdom. The climb was truly exhausting! Each step felt heavier as the path inclined that’s why I decided to sat for a moment and have some rest. Our tiredness was all worth it when we reach the top. From there, we were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire place. The stone walls and terraces were beautifully laid out below us. The cool breeze that brushes our faces makes our fatigue go away instantly.
As we made our way down, I noticed a sign with a special dedication along with the story behind the creation of the place. I learned that “The Igorot Stone Kingdom” was lovingly dedicated by a son for his mother which is an Igorota(means a woman belongs to the Igorot ethnic group in Northern Luzon, Philippines). Reading it gave me a deeper appreciation for the place not just for its beauty, but for the love, history, and cultural pride it carries.
After hours of walking and exploring we felt hungry, so we decided it was time to head back to our hotel. Our day had been filled with beautiful sights and a bit of a leg workout from all the walking and climbing, making the trip both memorable and satisfying. The Stone Kingdom is a truly must-visit destination!
That’s just the part 1 of the places I visited in Baguio. Next up in my blog will be the Botanical Garden. So stay tuned for more stories from my trip.
