EMBRACING SIMPLICITY •//• Crochet Creations for a Merry Christmas

We are currently in a period of love and Joy as Christmas is just around the corner and as usual, it is a month of celebrations and it calls for preparation. There are a lot of demands for this Christmas, especially for those who are quite grown but regardless I am happy it is a holiday season, a moment to relax from the year’s stress.

In my country, Christmas is well regarded, it is the period when there are a lot of chickens and bright lights, many people would love to get new clothes, shoes or hair, some would love to travel either to meet their loved ones or an outing. During this season, you can smell the nice aroma of different foods, especially jollof rice and chicken — in other words, it is a period of extravagant spending.

To be honest, I am not really bothered about Christmas preparations maybe because I am still a young youth and not a parent yet which is making me feel less responsible, or maybe because I am not so excited about this Christmas, or maybe because I want to be so minimal (especially with my spending) this Christmas. After all, I have a lot of things to work on next year.

I am not bothered about buying new shoes, clothes or hair and I don’t even have any plan of traveling. I have gone through a lot this year and I just want to use this holiday season to relax and be grateful. I really don’t want to burden myself with the unnecessary stress of Christmas expectations.

The only expectation that I love to do and I'm excited about is to share love and gifts with others, sharing things with people makes me smile and happy. For this Christmas, I have thought of some minimal gifts to share with my loved ones, especially those younger than me.

Recently, I have seen a lot of inspiration for crochet gifts to give to loved ones and honestly, I love them. The only thing that is against me now is time, there are a lot of things I need to do before next year but I have chosen to do some crochet work even though it is not so much.

Just yesterday, I went to get yarn because I don’t have many yarns although it was a disappointment because I didn’t find any Christmas colors around me due to the high demand and the main store is far from me. After contemplating, I decided to get any nice colours and hope I have time to go to the main store before Christmas.

Also yesterday, I crocheted a necklace and it turned out quite nice, I will be making more to give to my friends that love black colours. I also plan to make other colours, and some crocheted bracelets.

I also saw a crochet room decor veins, it was nice that I was so excited to make one. I created some appliqué, and I am planning to make it like veins that one can hang around their room, room decor veins are now trendy and it would be unique to have a crocheted one.

I made a butterfly, star, love appliqué, etc and I wonder which one of them should I use as veins, I guess I will make all, hehe. If I have extra time, I’ll make bookmarks for my book lovers.

I started yesterday and I am going to continue, I enjoy this. I just love these ideas because it is so minimal and it comes from my heart and my handwork. I also plan to make little snacks to share with everyone who comes around and with my neighbours.

What excites me most in this season is the smile I see on people’s faces, the quality time spent with family and friends, the relaxation of the mind and body, and the feeling of love that fills the environment.
