I agree with you, if you've never had it, you don't know what it's like to not have it. To not see the beautiful sunset, the colourful rainbow, and the world. But if you weren't born blind, I can imagine it being so painful, and you'll have to put all your trust into those around you. That, I think takes a lot more courage than losing your eyesight.
As to blind people on Hive, thats a good point, you never thought about that before. I imagine it's not too difficult to be a blind writer, but engagement can be a tad difficult unless you have an assistant

People in the environment can be very cruel towards someone else's handicap and for such a person (who became blind), acceptance and support is of vital importance.
I worked as a young man with a colleague who was housemates with two twins, blind from birth (otherwise known singers in Serbia) and he told me when one of them was getting married, he asked for a TV set as a gift, so that he had a place to watch movies. When the friend asked him how to watch, he got the answer: My friend, it's enough for me to listen and imagine the movie I want.
Very strong guys, who have lived with their handicap since birth and have successful careers.
I believe that among blind people there are even better writers than us, because their world is their imagination, in which they look for inspiration, which we rarely do, because our world (as terrible as it is, realistic) we see with our eyes every day.
