My fridge collection around the world

(Edited)

Ten days ago I saw a post about the fridge magnet collection and thought I got a nice little collection worth sharing. All my magnets are mainly from my travels, so I'll be adding links for my relevant posts. I also tried to organise my fridge magnets like a map, but overtime, the geography got a bit distorted on my fridge!
1000013398.jpg

Starting from the top left corner is the Nordic and Baltics, I did a day trip to Odense in Denmark when I went there the year before last. The Copenhagen one might have been from a previous visit to Denmark. Then there's Tallinn in Estonia and Riga in Latvia. The latter two magnets were from my trip last year after attending the Hive Bee Con in Krakow, Poland.
1000013403.jpg

Europe is further down. You'll notice the Dutch clogs, the EU magnet from Brussel, Wuppertal is from my Germany trip last year when I caught the suspended train ride, next to it is Warsaw. I went there after my Hive Been Con meetup. Tarnow is also part of the same trip, I still haven't posted about that yet. Further down where it says Achtung, means danger in German, is a piece of the fallen Berlin Wall - so I'm told by the person who sold it to me. Further down on the left is Porto in Portugal, I've only made one post about this trip, there are more to come. Then there's Madrid in Spain, which I've never posted about, and Seville, a rare single image short post from my early days. And finally, there's the Vatican. I thought I had posted about that, but seems like not.
1000013615.jpg

I have a couple more European fridge magnets. The beer bottle opener is from Barcelona and I've put it separately mainly for convenience when I need to grab it quickly. Greece is the only place that I haven't been. My sister in law gave it to me coz she saw I had lots of magnets on my fridge.
1000013407.jpg

Moving down my fridge map is America. These are all magnets from my recent USA trip. I decided against buying a magnet from every city I went to and only got some memorable places such as Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone
1000013390.jpg

Here's the Southern hemisphere. Peru is one of my all time most memorable trips. Next to Peru is Colombia. This is the only post I made with grainy low quality images as I was desperate to get Colombia on my Pinmapple map. Then there's Rio in Brazil, I went to these two countries on the same trip. I remember when I went up to Corcovado to see the Christ the Redeemer statue, it was so foggy that I couldn't see anything. Such a disappointment. And finally, in the southern hemisphere is New Zealand.
1000013400.jpg

Moving across is the Middle East. Petra in Jordan is another one of my most memorable trip. I wrote briefly about it in 2018 and I've been meaning to write a proper post about Petra all these years because it's such a special place. So special that I still haven't got round to do the job properly that it deserves. And then there is the UAE. Abu Dhabi was my last holiday before Covid blew up and our lives were put on hold for a couple of years. Little did I know this when I bought this magnet.
1000013401.jpg

I have spent a lot of time in Asia, but surprisingly don't have that many magnets. Let's start with the pink elephant I got from Chiangmai. I went there after the SteemFest in 2019. Again little did we know that a few months later our chain would change forever. Above the pink elephant is a non la, a Vietnamese cone shaped hat. I've been to Ho Chi Minh City in the south and Hanoi in the north on two separate occasions, but I can't remember when I got this magnet. Next to Vietnam is Malacca in Malaysia, a lovely town about two hours away from the capital KL.

I have a few Taiwan magnets of course, my home for many years. There's a red ninja magnet next to the I ♥️ Taiwan round magnet. That's from one of my many trips to Japan. The chef on the right hand side is from Seoul in Korea. I went to see a percussion show called Nanta, brilliant show. And at the bottom is Okinawa in Japan. Okinawa is known as the Hawaii of Japan and locals don't really consider themselves as Japanese due to historical and culture reasons.
1000013392.jpg

I also have some random magnets.

The pair of wings with a red dot in the middle is the logo for the RAF, the Royal Air Force. I bought it at an open day to support the veterans the other year. The ship next to it is the Waverley, the world's last seagoing paddle steamer, ie a ship that uses steam to drive the paddles. I went on a river cruise last year. I got the magnet Join the Rebellion 1068 in Nottingham in the UK. It refers to a rebellion against the King back in 1068. I think it started or was closely associated with Nottingham. And Coca Cola, yeah, that's a random magnet. Can't even remember where that came from.

Some magnets can be functional. Such as the pen holder, I really like this design, I think, but can't be sure I may have bought it from Denmark. And the one below you can open up a little to put misc things inside. By the way, the round one at the top is my latest purchase. I notice I don't have a magnet of my own home town Bristol. We're most famous for the suspension bridge and the hot air balloon festival each year. If you haven't heard of us, here's a good overview of the city

Ah, I remember one from mipiano which was also about the similar collection. I hope you wanted to write was instead of bus 😂 in the last line so I liked that two wings with a red dot presenting the RAF.

Also the pen holder as you can just take out the pen and write a message for your siblings on a sticky note that don't even try to have an eye on my pastry.

because this is the monthly topic for the Hive Collectors community in June ;P

But LivingUkTaiwan's collection is much wider and cooler than mine!

Your fridge door is definitely a colourful and unique map around the world 😍
I think you need more magnets from Spain 😁 {subliminal message - when Spain again hahaha?} Even your "random" magnets make a cool section of the collection already!!

It is difficult to choose one favourite from this collection, but maybe Petra in Jordan as it is a place I have always wanted to visit. But the little red ninja (does it have a little bell on it?) is also on the top of the favourites :))

Eagle eye!! Yes the little ninja has a bell on its head. Actually I never noticed it before, I had to go and check when you asked.

Petra is such a special place, I have never seen anything like it before, definitely one to put on your bucket list. I'm glad I went.

We have a lot of magnets from our travels too. Our souvenirs tend to be fridge magnets and Xmas tree decorations to bring back those memories without taking up too much space.

I don't often buy Christmas ornaments during my traves, maybe coz I don't normally go on holiday around Christmas time. However, ir does seem to be a thing for some people, I know @sjarvie5 does that as well

Yes, I do. It is so much fun to pull them out at Christmas and remember the different trips and people on the trips.

What a beautiful collection you have, especially the ones you bought during your travels. They remain on your fridge door as a reminder of your travels around the world. I imagine that it fills you with joy to look at them and know that you have seen so many places 🤗.

Apart from photos, these are lovely memories of my travels. I have a few subtle ones that doesn't have the location name, and I struggle to remember where to I got them!

It is difficult to remember where you bought each one you own, what I think you will not forget is each place you have visited :)

I really love your collection! You have some gems there. I think my favorites are Copenhagen with the cool houses, Chiangmai with the colorful elephant and Park Güell vibes from the Barca magnet!!!

I like the Copenhagen one as well, it's very recognisable without even reading the place name. Barcelona is well used especially by my husband but I often worry it may drop and break because it's made of ceremic

Very cool! It looks like you've been just about everywhere. I saw a news story today about a section of the road through the grand Tetons collapsing and it made me think of you.

Yikes!!! I just googled it. And I think we did drive on Highway 22 into Jackson Hole. I remember we were suddenly driving up the mountains through the ski resorts and quickly back down again, and I really didn't enjoy the sudden change in altitude and mountain road 😟

I see from the news they had detected issues and closed the road a few days before, so that was very lucky and there were no accidents.

Thanks for your kind thoughts!

All this would make an interesting post for @mipiano's topic of the month in her Hive Collectors community

I loove fridge magnet collections! It tells so much about a person, without them saying a word. And yours is quite lovely <3 I like the functional ones best of all :D though my idea of functional magnets leans almost exclusively toward bottle openers :))

Wow quite the travel magnet collection. I have some and mines a mixed theme. Movies, quotes, travel, business and an assortment of others things. There really a mess on my fridge mostly holding reminders and other quick reference documents/information. Sadly not something I want to share, hehe.

That´s a lot of cool fridge magnets from a lot of cool places! Very impressive collection. Mine is much smaller as I usually forget to get them when abroad :D :/ But the fridge in our current apartment is a built-in with plastic cover so they wouldn´t stick to it anyway :D

Wow. what a nice collection! I do have some in my fridge as well, but I would say almost all were offered; I bring magnets from my trips but gift them all.

An excellent map of the world. They always look good and add color to the kitchen.

However, there are those who argue that it can damage the rubbers on refrigerator doors. These magnetic objects can interfere with the rubbers, which are responsible for keeping the cold inside. They end up exerting pressure that can cause the rubber to deform over time.
But according to meatpacking traders, there is no scientific basis for this potential problem.

Myth or reality?

It's always worth having, if only for the appeal of memories of those places you visited.
