Welcome to the stunning Gothic Saint Pierre Cathedral of Montpellier from the 14th Century ~ in FRANCE 🇫🇷
Come along and walk with me around and through the stunning Saint Pierre Cathedral from Montpellier ~ in Sunny southern FRANCE 🇫🇷
The church dates back to 1364, it turned into a Cathedral in 1536. (which can be read on the Wikipedia information page below)
What a stories those walls can tell… so much history, so much happened.
You will see, as we wander around it… its distinguished architecture and the towering pillars at the entrance that truly jump out. It was finally a beautiful sunny day last Saturday after some rainy days. So I just had to go out and explore, especially now I am still around this area.
I just love the tram and public transport system from Montpellier, it brings you to far ends of this city and its surrounding cities and villages easily. No need for a car here.
Curious… join me today on this walk!
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.

Location of the St. Pierre Cathedral in Montpellier we find on the following screenshots of Google Maps with the red pin 📍 :
Zooming in, you see it is close to the arc de Triomphe I showed last week:
More information in french you find on their own website here: Cathedrale de Montpellier.
On Wikipedia we find the following short information in English: Wikipedia Montpellier Cathedral!
A little bit more you find on here; The tourism of Montpellier website.
Shall we check out the Cathedral now?
Ok… let’s go!
As we approach the Cathedral from the far back, we wander through a small alley way. The Cathedral is so large it is hard to get good photos of it in these small streets.
We pass by a side entrance. The red doors pop out. I see the fascinating sculptures and carved details around the door.
Just wow… very intricate.
Let’s have a closer look at all the details we can see.
Such beautiful carvings / sculptures.
Above this door we see a Rose window. Somehow I like seeing them.
As we walk further the next side door is open. Of course we are peeking inside. The first part is in scaffolding and we can’t see much, we walk under it to see a bit more from the inside of the Cathedral. Just look at it. So beautiful. The light and the pillars pull my eye…
… right up to the ceiling. Believe me it is high.
We wander out again and continue our walk to the front of the Cathedral… slowly.
As we come around the corner we are right away greeted by the 2 massive pillars in front of the main entrance.
Looking through the opening.
There is luckily a little square in front of it, so we can walk a bit further to take in the front of the Cathedral better. Can you believe that each of the pillars is 4.55 meter in diameter? Source
The furthest we can walk back… we see the Gothic Cathedral in all its beauty. Stunning!
I really like this photo as with the people in it you see how large it really is.
Let’s look up and see the bell tower and its details. The beautiful gothic architecture.
The main entrance, again the doors are red.
Zooming out a bit…
Looking up, all the way.
We wander through the street further to capture different angles. The sun has cast a dark shadow. Its contrast is welcome…
I see a sundial on the wall of the large building next to the Cathedral. You might have noticed in the past, I do capture them. As they fascinate me.
It is located next to the main entrance of this building. We see 2 large statues on each side.
We can read we are standing before the Faculté de Mèdicine - Faculty of Medicine of the university.
The other statue. They are beautiful…
From further away we see the entire entrance.
Looking to the right the Cathedral and its pillars are still very prominent in the view.
What a stunning structure, don’t you think?
I love the lines guiding you towards the distance…
As we wander back one more capture. I have never seen anything like this.
I just had to share it with you today. Stay tuned for more beautiful walks in and stunning views of southern France… 🇫🇷
…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.

Fijne dag vandaag!

The architecture of different buildings always thinks me think. Especially the churches where we usually do not have churches in our country. It's really beautiful
Love the red doors and all the details around them. Of course, the immense enclosed space with impossibly high ceilings in the signature look of cathedrals, this one included. And those huge columns are very interesting and I agree unique. So quick sharing... the capital of Vermont is Montpelier. Vermont is the 14th state joining soon after the Revolution. The capital was named after the French city you are visiting as a tribute to the assistance received from France during the Revolutionary War with England.
Wowwww, how great Post and beautiful Shots

The red door is quite attractive and inside the cathedral will definitely having me staring for details the entire time.
4.55m diameter shows their massive size, interesting!
