☀️ “Walk around the Iznájar Reservoir towards the Dam with me” ~ IZNÁJAR, Cordoba province in Spain 🇪🇸

IMG_6031 edit.jpeg
Come along and join me on a walk around the Iznájar Reservoir towards the Dam ~ in IZNÁJAR, Cordoba province in SPAIN 🇪🇸
We will join some members of my Iznájar walking group on this beautiful and sunny day in February 2018. ☀️ yep, it’s a while back and I needed some sunny vibes today 😁
When I lived alone in the countryside of Iznájar (in 2015) I joined this walking group at least once a week. We had loads of fun and we saw of course a lot while #exploring new areas and walks.
I wanted to share one of those walks with you today. So come along… 😊

With this post I’m joining in at the #Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 40 PHOTOGRAPHS
The date is: 18 FEBRUARY 2018.
All Photographs in this post are taken with my (late) #Canon550D and 18-135mm lens. 📸
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my #adventures on this #walk, to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.

The trail we followed you find on this screenshot from Google maps marked in yellow:
IMG_6063.jpeg

On this day hubby (back then not hubby yet) joined me for the first time and we had to drive 1,5 hours inland to get there as we had moved towards the coast together after we met.
An earlier walk (3 years before this walk) from me alone joining some members of my walking group you can find here if you missed it 3 years ago: My Wednesday Walk “Walk around the Iznájar Dam and through the Pine Forest, Cordoba province, Spain” (hahaha there must be something with the number 3 today it keeps popping up for me 😋)

What is rather #interesting to see in my #photographs is the change of #water level in 3 years between this and above’s post… the area is turning slowly into a #DESERT 🏜️. Even back then you could see it already. 🫣 One of the reasons we moved out of southern Spain 🇪🇸

But let’s not get lost in memories… are you ready to walk with me? 😊

Let’s start our walk.
After we parked our cars we walk first through the pine forest 🌲🌲🌲
IMG_6015.jpeg

The path goes up and down. In some areas we can walk towards the embalsa de Iznajar, the Iznajar reservoir.
In the following website you can read more about this reservoir: The Iznájar Reservoir!

It tells you;

The Iznájar Reservoir, also known as the "Lake of Andalusia," is located in the middle course of the Genil River, being the largest reservoir in Andalusia and the second largest in Spain in terms of extension.

Here you can see it through the trees and shrubs.
IMG_6020 edit.jpeg

As we walk a bit closer we see this beautiful view. The mountains in the distance are very soft. A haze is making them slowly disappear.
IMG_6021.jpeg

An artistic capture… i loved the softness of the colours around us that day.
IMG_6022.jpeg

It was very early spring this middle of February. We see some blossoms already came out. 🌸🌸🌸 Like on the #almond and #olive trees 🌳
IMG_6023.jpeg

We walk slowly further and take in the views. We see more from the reservoir now. The water level is very low… the yellow sandy parts you couldn’t see a few years ago.
IMG_6024.jpeg

If you look closely in the distance you see the church on the top of the mountain. That is the little village of Iznájar. Where I lived about a 30 minutes drive (with my classic mini) from in the countryside.
IMG_6026.jpeg

The reservoir is very large as you can see. Do you see the little cars at the edge below us… Yes, now you can see the dimensions better. The cars are TINY 🚗🚙
IMG_6027 edit.jpeg

We walk further around the waters edge. Here you can clearly see where the water level once was. 😳 scary… but still the views are stunning 🤩
IMG_6029.jpeg

The ground under our feet is very very dry.
IMG_6030.jpeg

We reach an area where they let boats in the water. Here are some poles with measurements on. Once… long ago the water would have been this high.
IMG_6032.jpeg

As we walk further we come along the #abandon cabins. It used to be a camp site. Now it is regularly used by military to practice.
IMG_6033.jpeg

At first I thought… it was a tripod, but looking closer it is a barb wire fence pole.
One of the cabins from higher up. As our walking path goes still up and down along the mountains ⛰️
IMG_6035.jpeg

We see in some areas some wild #orchids… almost flowering. They will be abundant in the spring in this region of Spain 🇪🇸
IMG_6036.jpeg

We continue our walk… it is so lovely… the perfect temperature 😊
IMG_6039.jpeg

We are getting closer to the dam now and see some old structures like this wall next to the path.
IMG_6040.jpeg

Some tall plants, these agave’s are very spiky.
IMG_6041.jpeg

In some of the trees above us we see caterpillar 🐛 nests, yes… these were the ones you have to look out for. Processionary ones.
IMG_6042.jpeg

Finally… are you still with me? We reached the large #DAM. You can see it through the trees here:
IMG_6043.jpeg

The other members of my walking group 😊
IMG_6044.jpeg

This area close by the dam has more flowers around us. We take a closer look at them 🥰
IMG_6046.jpeg

Little paths up the mountain ⛰️
IMG_6047.jpeg

Like little railways to bring up things.
IMG_6048.jpeg

The closer we get to the dam the more we can see 😊
IMG_6051.jpeg

Beautiful grasses along the edge.
IMG_6053.jpeg

Wild herbs…
IMG_6054.jpeg

More flowers 🌼🌼🌼
IMG_6055.jpeg

I had to share some beautiful flowers with you.
IMG_6056.jpeg

The men standing on the edge observing the dam closer by.
IMG_6057.jpeg

We walk towards the edge and take in the views of the reservoir towards the left.
IMG_6058.jpeg

The road below us over the dam.
IMG_6059.jpeg

If you want to see more photographs of the dam itself, see my other post (link above 👆🏻)

We can walk a long way on this plateau.
IMG_6061.jpeg

Above us some birds of prey… they are too far for me to capture with this lens.
IMG_6063.jpeg

Walking a bit further we see towards the right, next to the dam.
IMG_6064.jpeg

Looking back where we came from.
IMG_6065.jpeg

And we turn around and walk back. We have been walking for 1 hour and 15 minutes. So there and back we will have walked about 2,5 hours 🤓
IMG_6066.jpeg

This time I focus on the flowers around us… and we talk and enjoy the views 😊
IMG_6067.jpeg

Some more blossoms on the trees 🌳 🌸🌸🌸
IMG_6070.jpeg

Beautiful… I can’t wait for spring.
IMG_6073.jpeg

The view is very beautiful, the small flowers and other wild plants along the road are no less amazing.
