☃️❄️ TREHÖRNINGSJÖ to UMEÅ ~ ROADTRIP to a new COUNTRY 📦 🚗 Part 10a ~ HEROES of NORTHERN SWEDEN 🇸🇪☃️❄️ with 2 VIDEOS 🎥

Let’s #continue our road trip NORTH today.

This is part brings us from TREHÖRNINGSJÖ, Västernorrland County to UMEÅ, Västerbotten County in #Sweden 🇸🇪
Yes, we go even further NORTH. 😎 I included 2 VIDEOS 🎥 to give you that extra feel for what we experienced on the road. This part I also show you the #HEROES of the #NORTH!
This road trip is part of my last COUNTRY MOVE.

With even more snow ❄️ and some exciting things we will see in this part of the #roadtrip. I enter it in this MONTH’S #WINTERCHALLENGE from @worldmappin. You can read all about it here : Winter is coming 🥶🥶🥶 - and with it the Worldmappin Winter Challenge 🥳🥳
Are you joining us too? Do try, it is FUN!

This will be PART 10a from 11 (I had to devide part 10 as to much happened during this road trip that is exciting to show) and is part of our journey to our new home 🏡 and country 🗺️ earlier in this year 2024.
Where we will be “driving” ourselves to our new COUNTRY 😊 of residence. We started driving in IRELAND 🇮🇪 , crossed many countries... FRANCE 🇫🇷 , BELGIUM 🇧🇪 , THE NETHERLANDS 🇳🇱 , GERMANY 🇩🇪 and SWEDEN 🇸🇪 … How many more countries? Stay tuned to find out…

Today’s selection will be of 65 photographs and 2 VIDEOS. 🎥
Date: 16 February 2024
The Photographs in this post are all taken with my iPhone by me and some parts by hubby📱🤓when I was driving through the most snowy and icy parts 🚘
The first half of the journey… hubby is driving 😎 so I can take the photos. I will drive in part 10b.

Screenshot from google maps of the first half of our route in part 10. We drove the selected route, dark blue 💙
We stop this part AND for lunch in UMEÅ. We drive shortly further in part 10b. It took us much longer again… of course with these road conditions ☃️❄️🌨️

Have something nice (warm) to drink, sit back… and enjoy this ADVENTURE!
Here we go…. 😁

Looking outside our Airbnb in Trehörningsjö we have to scrape the car and load up our belongings…

The view on the porch is pretty… very quiet, just away from the village itself.

Our km’s when we get into the car.

One more look at our nice accommodation 👋🏻 bye bye.

Let’s search for the road hahaha 🤣 it is hard to see. Luckily the RED poles / markers help ⛳️

As you can see we drive over a thick layer of SNOW ❄️

Reaching the village…

We are crossing over a train track 🚂

The landscape changes, it is a grey day. It would have been cool to see some blue skies.

Still it is stunning, everywhere we look. The snow… all the trees 🌲 🌳🪵

Here we go inland a bit, it will takes us a while before we reach the main road along the coast.

A snowplough, he isn’t ploughing here…

We go left!

The little huts along the roads are for the hunters, observing the wildlife.

The feeling to drive on so much snow is just AWESOME 🤩 I love it. With the right tires… it will give you traction enough.

Passing by a hamlet with a few houses on the hill side.

More forests and rather lonely roads.

Just us and the vast nature around us. 😊

BUT? WHAT DO WE SEE in the distance? 😳

I CAN NOT BELIEVE MY EYES 👀
Do you see what I see?

A #CYCLIST 🚴🏻‍♂️ IN THIS MUCH SNOW ❄️ 😳
We pass him by slowly, he gets off and walks up the hill in the deeper parts.
This gives a whole new MEANING TO #EXTREME #SPORTS 😎

Let’s continue…

Crossing into VÄSTERBOTTENS LÄN / COUNTY at the sign.

Lovely little houses along our road… the snowy landscape is something special. 🥰

Beautiful birches 🌳

We see this tree line, I just had to capture it.

Disappearing into the distance 😊

Still not many other people we have seen so far.

Let me show you a little part of the drive on this snowy road… you get a better feeling of being here right with me on this crazy adventure 😜
You hear the sound of the wheels on the snow ❄️

Next…
Do we go left or right? 😁

I see ski 🎿 lifts through the trees going up the mountain 🏔️

The wind blew the snow up the side of the trees 🌲 such a pretty sight.

More Swedish houses 🏠 just a few here and there.

One of my favourite photos of today 😊

It looks like the inland road is endless… when do we reach the coastal road?

Yes, finally 🤩 first sign of the main E4 road.

An underpass… we see the road 🛣️

Finding the right direction… we have to go NORTH!

We did it… the slip road onto the E4. It says 110km/h… hhmmmm don’t think we will go that fast hahaha 🤣😂

We enter the main road and see it is rather ICY 🥶

It is tricky… maybe we should have stayed on the inland roads 🙃 they were easier to drive. But today… will be a very very long day. So we have to drive at least half of the road on the main road to speed up our journey.

The snow next to the road is getting higher the further north we go.

Oh… 2 #SNOWPLOUGHS covering the entire width of the road 🛣️

These man and women are the #HEROES OF THE NORTH. Making sure everybody can drive safely on the ice and snowy roads.

We are stuck a long time behind them… going slowly. We still have 41 KM to go to UMEÅ. It is 12:28h here. 🕰️

Just look at how hard they are working… we are happy as the road is better drivable now 😁

It starts to snow more heavily now too. 🌨️

LET ME SHOW YOU ANOTHER VIDEO 🎥 volume up…

Just look at how MUCH SNOW is being pushed from one snowplough truck to the next truck to the side of the road. Nicely piled up…
Such a HEROES!

Thank you so much ☺️

After a while both #trucks went to the side in a bay to let the cars behind them pass.

It does mean, icy road conditions again. 😣 We can drive a little bit faster now… but have to be careful.

Some cars take us over… very tricky in the deeper snow. They do so very slowly and a long time to go back to the right. Most drive in ONE line though.

We are getting closer to our #LUNCH STOP now.

Little church hidden behind the mountains of snow.

More traffic in front of us.

We quickly catch up. I see 2 other snowploughs, they go to the side again. To let us pass 🚗🚗

I take a few captures of there trucks. On the back we see they spray salt…

The enormous snowploughs on the front. Such powerful machines.

Thank you kindly Sir.

Back on the snowy and icy road 🛣️

We see a sign now.

WELCOME TO UMEÅ 👋🏻

We follow the signs further…

Driving under the little bridge.

Watch out for high winds 🌬️

Not to bad today 😊

And we reached the cities limits.

We head for a restaurant now to have some lunch.
It is 13:20h now. Not bad for the first part of today 🤓
We saw so much… all exciting stuff 😎 hope you enjoyed it.

So let’s look at how far we have driven in part 10a.
The km meter says now : 129.979km, we stopped at 129.885km in the last part.

What means we have driven about 94 km along the road 🚗
Adding the last total we get : 4,019 km in 12 days of traveling 😉 (the first half of this day)

I will post the lunch stop in UMEÅ to MJÖVATTNET ~ part 10b very soon!

This is so adventurous, I experienced heavy snow this year but it's nothing compared to yours over there.

That's a very heavy snowfall and the fact that you didn't have snow chains in is interesting. The type you had on must have had very good traction for driving in snow. Do any other cars have snow chains ⛓️ on?

That cyclist was having an extreme day. I wonder how he is going to be warm while sweating from the cycling. I experienced sweating in my thermal clothes in the snow over here didn't keep me warm long enough.

Yep, I think it is way more snow than you experienced there.

In Sweden people don’t drive on snow chains ⛓️ they are only allowed in emergency. Like getting yourself out of a pile of snow or slippery ice.
The tires are changed twice a year. Summer and winter tire sets. The winter once have to be for extreme snow and ice. Special symbols are on the tires. The locals up north do drive on dubs, that are winter tires with iron spikes in them. It does help a lot with traction.

We knew we would get extreme snow and ice and bought for this trip new winter tires. Sadly we couldn’t sell them with the car in Ireland… we still have no new car 😣

Hahaha I also don’t understand the cyclist. He must have had special clothing.

Have a wonderful Sunday Joe

Interesting stuff with driving in winter. I am learning. Thanks for explaining 😉

That's quite a situation about the tyres. Hopefully you should get a buyer some time or keep it for future use.

Thanks, my Sunday have been a restful one.

We have our own brand of hardcore cyclists around Vancouver that still bike even in the rare case of snow when they switch to big oversized tires to handle the ice and snow. Brrr, I think I'll warm up another cup of tea.❄️
I gave up bike commuting from work after I had my second bike accident.

Haha cool they are there too. I know what tires you mean. They go through snow very well.
The cyclist we saw didn’t have any big tires. Maybe he had spikes in them. I couldn’t see.

Oh no… that's a shame. I gave up cycling a long time ago too… my back couldn’t handle it anymore.
Have a wonderful Sunday 🤗

It was cold 🥶 bbbrrrr
Thank you so much 😊 it isn’t actually that bad inland. There is a dry air. Not humid so the cold gets into your bones cold. Like countries like England, Germany etc.

You must be getting close because the snow is getting deep 😆 fun to see the snow plows working in tandem. I cleaned our driveway today but I almost just left it to melt. We don't have anywhere to go and it will warm up later in the week haha

Hahaha the snow is deep yes. This season it isn’t even close to what it was last year around the same time. Still a long way to go.
Sounds like a good plan, when it melts and you don’t need to get out. We have to go grocery shopping today… a long, icy road to get to the city. 1 hour is now closer to 1,5 hours drive 🥶🥶 !LOL

We are only 20 minutes from town and sometimes that seems like a long trip when the roads are bad. Fortunately my wife is a bit of a squirrel and there is always lots of extra food around if we don't make the trip to town 🐿️

Oh I am too, there is always something here to create dinners or food. We didn’t go out today as dhl was late and we are waiting for a package. It said delivered, but we never saw it. Or even a truck or other car on the mountains. No tire tracks anywhere. So… after contacting the delivery 🚚 service, the driver said he dropped it outside at the garage. The road was to narrow. We don't even have a garage hahaha or a narrow road.
So we went searching, didn’t find it. DHL is investigating now where it is… hahaha
So another try tomorrow (maybe) to go shopping… !LOL
