"The Cliffs of Malta" ~ walk along the coast at Għar Lapsi ~ a true hidden gem ~ MALTA 🇲🇹

IMG_0529.jpeg
Let’s explore more “Cliffs of Malta” today ~ walk with me along the coast at Għar Lapsi ~ MALTA 🇲🇹
It is a not so well known area… yet.
We will see some stunning views of the cliffs, a dive site and rock beach… and even some sculptures on this beautiful sunny day on the ISLAND OF MALTA in March 2020.

With this post I’m joining in at the #Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 28 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 1 MARCH 2020
The Photographs in this post are taken with my #iPhone and one from hubby of me ☺️
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my #adventures on this #walk to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.

Location of the walk along the cliffs at Għar Lapsi on the #island we find on the following screenshots of Google Maps with the yellow arrow or star :
IMG_6088.jpeg

Zooming in we see:
IMG_6087.jpeg

More information about Għar Lapsi you find here: Visit Malta - Għar Lapsi!

We start at Ħad-Dingli as we drive past it from our home in Rabat. Yes, I lived a while there… 😋
The area is better known as the DINGLI CLIFFS. We jump out of the car to take in the views first before we drive further. 😊
Everybody goes to the #dinglicliffs, but today I want to focus on a hidden gem… a little bit further where we will walk around.

hubby took there the first photo 👆🏻 of me.
It was a very windy day that early in march as you can see in that photo. 🌬️🌊
I was capturing the next photos. Such beautiful #views along this stretch of #coast on MALTA. It is just past the famous cliffs site.
IMG_3385.jpeg

The little island you see in the misty distance is FILFA you will see it better when we start our walk at bit further.
IMG_3387.jpeg

I like the green areas (shrubs) on this side as Malta 🇲🇹 is very dry and barren.
IMG_3388.jpeg

I even found a few flowers 🌺 of course I had to capture them.
IMG_3390.jpeg

We drive to our next spot where we park and we will walk along the coast line. We reached Għar Lapsi.
There is a walking path and we follow it.

Come let’s check it out 😊
Looking up we see these buildings and huts. Typical #architecture of Malta 🇲🇹
IMG_3391.jpeg

Zooming out a bit. If you see the orange van, that is the road leading down to Għar Lapsi.
IMG_3392.jpeg

The cliffs are very rugged here. The blue of the sea 🌊 and sky makes them stand out a lot. 🥰
IMG_3394.jpeg

This time we see the little island of Filfa better.
IMG_3395.jpeg

We walk back to Għar Lapsi and see below us the #diving area. 🤿
IMG_3396.jpeg

You can even swim there… I think it is still too cold to go in as nobody was there swimming 🏊🏻‍♀️ or diving 🤿
IMG_3397.jpeg

Looking to the left we see a small #restaurant. Sadly there was no space for us at lunch, other wise we would had some freshly caught fish 🐟 we will walk further along the coast you see in the distance 😁
IMG_3398.jpeg

On a look out area we find these cool looking sculptures. There are rather a lot of obstacles around them, so it is difficult to capture them well. Standing on the opposite side the sun ☀️ was in the wrong spot. Let me still show you them. 😎
IMG_3399.jpeg

Peeking through at the sea 🌊
IMG_3401.jpeg

Water tanks behind them hahaha
IMG_3403.jpeg

They do look nice and the dark blue of the #Mediterranean Sea 🌊 makes them pop!
IMG_3404.jpeg

We walk past the restaurant and enter a path along the coast now, we walk for a while… the wind with the sun is making it a nice day out. Not too warm in the sun or too cold.
After a while we take in the views of the rugged cliffs. Soooo beautiful 🤩 don’t you think?
IMG_3406.jpeg

We hear the waves 🌊 crash against them.
IMG_3407.jpeg

One of my favourite photos of today 🥰 The rocks are large believe me. You can see some buildings on top of the cliffs. For comparison…
IMG_3409.jpeg

We walk down some steps and reach the sea… standing on large rocks we look at the cliffs from below.
IMG_3410.jpeg

We look around us 🤩 here there are some more diving areas.
IMG_3412.jpeg

Something I haven’t been able to explain… the next photo:
IMG_3413.jpeg
It looks like we have wings 🪽 and we could fly away any moment now hahaha 🤣 wouldn’t that be great…?

The views along the cliffs, the walking path is up there right on the edge…
IMG_3414.jpeg

Shall we continue further along it? 😊 ok… let’s do that.
IMG_3415.jpeg

We walk back up. Climbing the rocks 🪨 we came down over.
IMG_3416.jpeg

Views to the right. The sun is really strong now.
IMG_3420.jpeg

Filfa island is still with us.
IMG_3421.jpeg

Back on the path along the coast and cliffs 🥰 we walk for a while longer.
IMG_3422.jpeg

Until our tummy’s start to rumble and we decide to go back to the car 🚗
To head into a town for some food. We say bye bye 👋🏻 until our next walk together.

…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.
Join me next time for more #updates, #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻

I love Malta, we've been several times and one year seriously considered buying property there but they didn't have anything we liked and the more we looked into it, we decided not to in the end. Still quite fancy it though!!

Love the place and it's been a long while since we last visited.

That’s great you have been several times and love it. Malta is an awesome place to visit and spend some time but “living” is a different story.

For us too… been 5 years now, time does fly. We were there at the wrong time as covid started and changed a lot of things and what we could do and go to.

Thanks for joining me on this walk. Have a lovely Wednesday 😊

We've not been since Covid but last went in 2019 before it all kicked off. My brother and sister in law lived there for a couple of years, in the heart of Valletta. They had an interesting time there, Penny found work at the University as a lecturer and my brother was well located for various documentary projects around the Mediterranean plus some about Malta itself. See below...

Whilst they were there, having tried for a baby for some time, Penny fell pregnant and Izzie was born. They're back in London now and move back in 2018.

That is a while…
We lived in Birgu for the first half year, right in the centre of old town next to the church bells hahaha, and moved to Rabat later. Hubby got relocated with work from Gibraltar to Malta with his company. We went along… when they closed down the Gib office.

Oh the salt flats. Beautiful… will watch it after finishing up my work. Thanks for sharing, will have a look around if there are more videos of the med.

Most expats that move only stay a couple of years for various reasons.
I think for us visiting is good enough after having lived there. The islands are small.

Living on small islands isn't all that it's cracked up to be. THe pace of development there has been aggressive and I can imagine some industries have suffered, whilst others have taken over a bit too much.

I seem to recall that you were living there when I joined Hive and was getting to know people here.

I know Birgu, our friends Roberta and Johann live there, which reminds me to check if they're coming over to the UK at all this year. They often do.

Oh the things I saw on building sites 🏗️ was just crazy. Very dangerous and each day we heard about accidents or even buildings collapse. They weren’t following code etc.
Sliema was so dusty some days, you could hardly breach walking through some streets.

Could well be… hahaha although I only joined 3 years ago. So must have been back in Spain already.

Cool you know it. It’s a cool place to be. Close to everything and we hopped on the ferry right into Valetta. One didn’t need a car in that part.
Have a good evening! 😊

We stayed in Sliema quite often, at the Palace Hotel and then on later trips The Excelsior in Floriana.

It is a great base to explore the island from.
Hubby worked in Sliema so we did go there occasionally. We did try to avoid it. The dust was not healthy. Some days they closed streets… Maybe you were there much earlier when it wasn’t that bad yet.

0

avatar

I can recall some dust but thought it was the dryness of the place. Augusts were best avoided, as the temperature became too much even for the locals.

It must have got very bad. I can remember reading Roberta’s blog posts, angry at the situation, foreign investors wrecking the islands.

Then there was the journalist who was murdered. Everyone on the island knew the lady. When meeting up with the Briffas one day, I think in Burgu, Roberta commented on the woman in the corner who was busy writing on her laptop. Years later when I saw her face in the BBC news, it hit me. It was the same woman.

An email from Roberta the following day confirmed it.

Such antics on a small island bring the place to its knees.

Yes, the height of the summer was almost unbearable. You just didn’t get out. Or quickly to the car with aircon into a mall with aircon. Hahaha

Yes, a tiny island with a lot of things happening that did no good for its image. It is such a shame.
But like everywhere… there is always something. We just need to try and make to best out of each situation wherever we are. 😊

Very nice walk along these cliffs... You bring a little sunshine to Montreal with your photos. I love the sculptures facing the sea, a nice contrast.
Your shadows remind me more of a pair of penguins 😂

Thank you so much 😊
The main pointy turny things are the sculptures. The obstacles are the objects in the background that made me not take a great photo with them in it. Like the water tanks, the streetlight etc. If I would have stood the other way the sun was in the wrong place… hahaha sometimes one can’t capture the photos one wants.
Have a lovely day.

I'm going to Malta at the end of April! I really like to go snorkeling, would you suggest me some places where I can find the best seabed to watch?
Also my friend told me is not so warm to swim, even at the end of April. Is it true?

Oh that’s awesome.
This spot I shared is really nice to snorkel and you could also check out the following places: Imgiebah beach. Hop over to Comino and check out the Blue Lagoon… you won’t regret it. And on Gozo I would go to the Blue Hole.
It’s a small island so easy to get around and see a lot.

It will be fresh she is right, but it all depends on what you are used to. Wear a good diving suite. Once in the water it will be nice, the sun is always out ☀️ the water will be heated up the most in the summer. I would jump in around august and september but that is just me and I like the sea water to be warm like a bath hahaha 🤣
Most places are shallow they are warmer to snorkel. Just give it a try 😊
Have a lovely time there and enjoy your day.

Between Malta and Sweden where would you prefer to reside long term?

Thank you so much Joe 😊 it was a lovely walk along the cliffs.
If I only could choose between those 2 it has to be Sweden. Malta is just too small… the island is really small. Also very barren, hot and dusty from the bad building works.
Sweden has nature, one can breath and move about.
But in reality… I would not settle down in each of them for various reasons 😉
Have a lovely evening.

I am very happy Jackie, NZ is to be loved for its nature, beauty and safety. I am hoping to settle but also thinking about the future as it is a very expensive country to stay.
At some point I will have to change job as I get older, my body can't take this tough telecoms job much longer.

That’s wonderful to hear.
It is a stunning country. I know I could definitely get used to it there and settle.
Yes, I understand on both. Some countries are expensive to live in, I so know… especially now hubby still hasn’t got a job 2 years in.
You will have to look one day for a job that is easier on your body luckily there are options. We don’t get any younger (at this age) hahaha
Hope all goes as you wish for Joe 🤗

You would Jackie, there's very little or nothing to complain about NZ especially for the likes of us that likes nature and quiet lifestyle.

Yeah I know about your hubby, it is tough with just one income, it is similar to me as well supporting my daughter and her mom back in Benin 🇧🇯 it's not easy.

Lol yes we're not getting younger 😊
Thank you Jackie, all the best for you too.

I researched NZ a lot and saw many documentaries about it. I just never found a way to get there, to live.
Traveling I will one day. I had 2 weeks planned and booked years ago. Covid cancelled that and I didn’t get around to planning it again.

It sure isn’t easy Joe, I understand and you understand me.

Nope… hahaha !LOL
Guess what. I finished the living room 🥳🥳
I have put up the skirting board yesterday. Today I did the caulking and touching up.
We put in the furniture and I took loads of photos and videos.
Tomorrow we empty further the room we used as living room and I will turn it into a dining room…
The walls I already finished painting in November.
Only the very damaged wooden floor is left in that room. Once painted, I put the skirting board up there and move further to do the kitchen.
I might manage the deadline… might 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Have an awesome morning.
Thank you kindly Joe 😊
