Highlights of beautiful BÉZIERS ~ one of the oldest towns in FRANCE 🇫🇷

IMG_8135.jpeg
Let me show you today some highlights of a walk through a beautiful town.
Welcome to Béziers France 🇫🇷 that is located in sunny southern France and is close to the Mediterranean coast.
I visited this lovely town late afternoon at the end of April for a few hours and I will take you with me to see its viewpoints and must see highlights. We will see the river Orb from above and below, and visit an old Roman bridge that dates back to the middle ages: Le pont vieux. We walk through a tree lined street / park and see the beautiful Theatre 🎭 building and much more… do join me.

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 40 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 30 April 2025
The Photographs in this post are taken with my iPhone.
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.

Location of the town of Béziers in France we find on the following screenshots of Google Maps :
IMG_6374.jpeg

Zooming in we see the town’s center and the river Orb.
IMG_6375.jpeg

For more information about Béziers and its history see:
Wikipedia Béziers here!
It tells us a lot about the town.
Like the following information that you find in above’s website ;

Béziers is one of the oldest cities in France. Research published in March 2013 shows that the ancient Greek colony of Béziers dates from 575 BCE, making it older than Agde (Greek Agathe Tyche, founded in 525 BCE) and slightly younger than Marseille (Greek Massalia, founded in 600 BCE)

Do have a read for more interesting info…

You find also a lot about the town Béziers and things to do there and when best to visit :
On PureFrance.

Are you all ready for our walk today?
Yes, great. Let’s go…

We start our walk at one of the viewpoints that is located at the Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire and the garden surrounding it.

There is a large stone wall that lets us peek over to see the surrounding countryside. As you can see we are rather high, most of the town is located on an elevation.
IMG_8094.jpeg

Looking further left. We will walk slowly along the wall.
IMG_8095.jpeg

To take in all the views we can see on this side.
IMG_8096.jpeg

Looking a bit further right now as we walked a bit more. We see prestine grassland or crops from a farm.
IMG_8097.jpeg

Reaching the end of the wall there is a viewpoint that lets you see the river Orb below us.
IMG_8099.jpeg

We follow the river towards the left.
IMG_8100.jpeg

And I zoom in upstream again. More mountains visible in the distance.
IMG_8101.jpeg

On top of the wall is a guide for us to show us exactly what we can see in the distance but also closer by. A proper map. It shows us where the old Roman bridge is.
IMG_8102.jpeg

Can you spot it?
Yes. Shall we try to get to it…
I think that is a great plan.
IMG_8105.jpeg

Walking towards the cathedral we see this large knight. Pretty cool 😎
IMG_8107.jpeg

More information about him in French.
IMG_8108.jpeg
For an english version have a look here:
Raimond-Roger Trencavel.

I discovered there is a pathway that turns into a wooden board walk all the way down this side of the town. On some levels we find a lot of steps. There are elevators but they didn’t work at 2 parts while we were there. This didn’t stop us, as going down is very doable. Just getting up later… haha
We see at a quarter of the way down this view. Getting closer to the roofs of the town.
IMG_8109.jpeg

We also see a little bit further the Roman bridge better. What a beauty, can’t wait to be closer to it.
IMG_8110.jpeg

Half way down we have this view towards the right. You see part of the boardwalk too.
IMG_8113.jpeg

Finally we made it down and we crossed a road. Following signs towards the old bridge we made it. There were lots of people walking in the beginning so I waited with taking photos until most were gone.
Looking back at the town and the cathedral with its viewpoints we came from. Most of the viewpoints were from further… the left side around the corner you can’t see. Behind the trees.
IMG_8114.jpeg

Zooming out. So beautiful!
IMG_8116.jpeg

We are looking towards the right now. The town still ahead of us.
IMG_8117.jpeg

We crossed the old bridge and we walk through a little park on the other side. Here you get the best views of the old bridge plus the town of Béziers and its highlights far up the hill.
IMG_8118.jpeg

What a pretty sight. Don’t miss to go all the way over the old bridge and look back at yourself. It is stunning.
IMG_8119.jpeg

One of my favourite photos from today:
IMG_8127.jpeg The day was just perfect. Nice sunny and warm. It is around 1800h already here.

Zooming out further to give you a wider view around us. So beautiful. The park is also so well maintained.
IMG_8128.jpeg

Shall we walk through it a bit? Ok… let’s do that.
IMG_8137.jpeg

I find some flowers blooming… early spring so they are bright and frame our views. This is another photo of my favourites. How can it not be? I think I will frame this one for on the wall.
IMG_8139.jpeg

I got a bit more artistic and capture some different flowers.
IMG_8144.jpeg

Now I focussed on the town/ changed my DOF.
IMG_8147.jpeg

Walking back over the bridge I take a few more photos.
IMG_8148.jpeg

Zooming in on the tower ( an old mill) far along the river.
IMG_8150.jpeg

We walked up into the town now. Not via all those steps but steep side roads. Do make sure you have good walking shoes on while doing so.
Wandering some small streets I find this beautiful statue.
IMG_8152.jpeg

Some information in french:
IMG_8153.jpeg for english see the following website: The statue of Pepezuc.

We wander further and decide to walk through the Allées Paul Riquet towards the Theatre:
IMG_8154.jpeg

As it is late we have some dinner and wander back into the towns centre.
IMG_8158.jpeg

Going over the Allées Paul Riquet again. It is a beautiful area where kids play, locals watch the world go by. It is large… a large park that goes through the towns main route.
IMG_8160.jpeg

As it is already late the towns main parks do close at certain times. In the summer it is open longer. So we only peeked through the gate and see:
IMG_8161.jpeg

Luckily we could walk along its fence as we were heading towards the train station. At the bottom of the park. Yes, it goes down, or up depending the way you go. We see this large gate.
IMG_8162.jpeg

Through it we see a large monument.
IMG_8164.jpeg

Zooming in. Yes, if you are here one day. Try to visit this large park. It looks beautiful.
IMG_8165.jpeg

Walking through a tunnel under the street towards the train. I capture this postcard like mural.
IMG_8166.jpeg

IMG_8167.jpeg

IMG_8168.jpeg

Béziers is truly like a postcard perfect town. Such a stunning setting. I will visit it again. For sure.

…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.

It is beautiful. It grew on my heart that part… so much to see and so diverse. Too hot to live full time though.
The history of that part is really interesting indeed.
This town could use some more promoting. It is stunning. Even though I was only there for a few hours. I took so many photos haha

Thank you, I try to visit places out of season. My favourite time, exactly because of those reasons.
I don’t like business…
Now I could wander around and see only a handful. Explore this towns beauty fully.
Have a great weekend!

I need to travel more. Haha
Here in the north it is cold and rainy. I got my winter clothes on and it should be summer. Bbbrrrrr
Not sure any veggies will do anything. It is just too cold this season. People say it won’t change this year.
Sounds lovely with awesome views I saw.
Thank you. I am back to sanding the floor. Enjoy yours.

That region is very cold Jackie, keep warm.
The poor veggies might not make it.
Am off to Nelson tomorrow again. Probably will be back to Christchurch Friday or Saturday.
Take it easy.

Will keep warm. I layered up… in the summer hahaha !LOL
I think this season is just too short and cold.
