2 STUNNING BEACHES ~ CLASHNESSIE that’s rather HIDDEN and Achmelvich a POPULAR one, exploring the HIGHLANDS of SCOTLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 UK

0B6A5652a.jpeg

Today I take you along to a rather hidden 👆🏻 and a more known beach in the WESTERN HIGHLANDS of SCOTLAND. I visited them with family that came to visit while we lived in the #highlands. I was showing them the stunning beauty of the Assynt region. I will show you both amazing locations, so when you visit the area… you can check them out too. They are stunning! Believe me they are so worth the drive over small and twisty roads ~ Here are CLASHNESSIE bay and ACHMELVICH beach in LAIRG, SCOTLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 that is part of the UK 🇬🇧

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last Wednesdaywalk post for info. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts, come join us it is fun!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 15 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 13 FEBRUARY 2023
The Photographs in this post are taken with my CANONR5 and iPhone
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to discover everything what I saw, like the little details seen through my eyes.

Let’s start at THE ACHMELVICH BEACH in Lairg first, the more popular one, an easy stop while you drive the NC500 route with your car.

More information about this stunning beach you find here: Achmelvich beach and bay! and here: Achmelvich bay - visit Scotland

Location of the popular beach we find on the following screenshot of Google Maps :

IMG_6137.jpeg

~ As it was in the middle of February, we were alone… no tourists around. So we could enjoy a walk along the beach. Just the way I like it hehe

The sand is soft and the views are just stunning.
0B6A5641a.jpeg

Next to the beach we find some sand dunes… it was a very windy day but we enjoyed wandering over the sand a lot. The sea breeze was so refreshing.
0B6A5642a.jpeg

The family that visited, included Ryder, the dog I have introduced to you before. Sadly he is no longer with us since last summer.
He soooo enjoyed the beach. Running between us.
0B6A5643a.jpeg

Let me show you the beautiful turquoise waters… even in the winter they pop. Imagine on a sunny summers day: it almost feels Caribbean.
IMG_4149.jpeg

The waves came rolling in softly. A gentle foam on their edges.
IMG_4151.jpeg

The water is crystal clear as you can see. A perfect beach to swim. Just not in the winter. hahaha ok, yes, maybe for a brave soul.
IMG_4152.jpeg

The sun shines a little and lights up the top of the cliffs/ rocks in the distance.
0B6A5644a.jpeg

Looking to the other end of the beach, typical highland vegetation that tells… we are very north in the western highlands.
0B6A5646a.jpeg

Last capture of the waves… such a beautiful fresh energy. One can recharge their body and soul here.
0B6A5647a.jpeg

Just behind the dunes… there are walking paths that lead to the only parking area where we had parked our car.
0B6A5649a.jpeg
After a little while and a good walk, we went back to the car to check out some other areas… we visited another beach and an amazing waterfall. (I will share another day)

We will go now to the rather hidden beach… most wont find or stop at. It is not marked on google maps.
The location of this stunning beach you find in the following screenshot of google maps where I dropped a pin:
IMG_6135.jpeg
Let’s call it Clashnessie beach as it is the name of the little hamlet next to it.

For reference… both beaches are on opposite sides of the landtong / headland above Lochinver in Scotland.
IMG_6138.jpeg

The drive along the B869 road is a bit tricky… but believe me, it is worth it.
More information about this area you find here: Clashnessie Wikipedia!

On the side of the small countryside road is a little parking bay one can park a car or two.
Our views towards the beach and little bay:
69799336880__74479A62-C5D2-4496-91D4-213205AC9B8C.jpeg

Walking towards the beach we see the sand is much darker and the landscape / scenery is rougher. In my opinion more beautiful than the pristine first more popular beach.
0B6A5650a.jpeg

I like the flow of the water… that marked the beach, the grasses and the distance views.
0B6A5651a.jpeg

A few small croft cottages in the distance. Driving towards this area, one can come across some sheep wandering over the road. We did a few times…
0B6A5653a.jpeg

Even when we wanted to leave this bay… but that and the waterfall is a story for another time ;)

Especially the snow free part hahaha
I wished I was still there. I loved Scotland, I could have settled there. Sadly they didn’t approve my residency and I had to move out…

Next month I will be traveling to warmer grounds 😁 I am counting the days.

The color of the water is really beautiful... cool to have almost nobody to enjoy this place. Is it swimmable in summer or is the water always cold?
Have a lovely day

It is stunning. So lucky to have nobody around… sadly I had to move out before the summer. I never tried swimming there. I can imagine with the shallow water, white sand and the sun that it could be rather pleasant to swim. Once you are in… it will be fine 🤣😂
Have a lovely day.

It was such a beautiful beach. I would put my feet in at any time, just not swim.

I thought you would like them.

Beautiful beaches. I like walking beaches in the off season. My favorite time when we lived in California. I also like beaches off the beaten path. A little hike is worth it if it discourages the crowds 🙂
