The Diamond Mind

I still have most of my pictures of majestic Thailand. Beautiful country, lovely people. I enjoyed the Buddhist influence. At one point, I was sitting outdoors waiting for a performance when a family with young kids showed up. One of the kids was about to take his seat when he saw an old man sitting behind. The child put his hands together and bowed to him. Likewise, the elderly gentleman acknowledged the gesture.

I grew up showing respect and deference to the elderly, but not to the formal extent I've seen in some cultures. Some of us were also taught to question (and even challenge) our elders as equals, which is not common in high-power distance cultures.
