Seagull in WR.jpg
Seagull on Rock, Chosen photograph for #SMaP

As it turns out not all gulls are sea gulls. About half of the species in BC actually spend their time in the interior while other species prefer the open Canadian prairies where they scavenge landfills and hunt small rodents (Cannings & Cannings, 1996).

I like the first image with the lone seagull on the rocks overlooking the gulf islands in the strait of Georgia. It has a pleasant blue that is easy on the eyes along with a lot whitespace around the bird. So, this is the image that I submit for consideration in this SMaP round.

I also considered the following image because of the approaching seagull, who was up to no good I'm sure, but I thought it was a little too busy, including the photobombing Canada geese.

I love that photo too... be careful, if you have something to eat, he'll steal it from you!!!

They approach me all the time when they see I'm eating and are very insistent.

I'm so used to calling them seagulls that it didn't occur to me that some gulls don't live in the sea. I would see them in Ontario where there is no sea, but there are many great lakes where they hang out.

They are scavengers and they can find food everywhere. It is typical view to see them in the fields as well as near fast food shops.
