RE: The Unspoken Code

Personal ornaments and the clothes we wear say a lot about who we are. In the past, people wore things like feathers or animal fur because they thought these items were imbued with a magical essence. Later, clothing and ornamentation became more functional, bound to a person's social status, gender, or other demographic characteristics. Sumptuary laws were passed in various societies to restrict how people dressed. This story is an exploration of these themes. I got the idea for the feathers because the character is experiencing a vision quest, and by wearing the feathers he obtains the visionary intelligence of the raven.
