Off the Deep End
I had not visited this city in over a decade, so I was excited to see the changes that had occurred since then. I was looking forward to checking out the new pier. The old one was lost during a storm a few years back and rebuilt to make it Canada's longest pier!

When I arrived, I was thrilled to see the pier in the distance. The ocean looked so blue and wonderful, but I noticed that the tide was very low.

As I got closer, I realized that there was no water under the pier! I was shocked. I had never seen such a long pier without water. What's a pier with no water? Is it even a pier? If there's no water, why are we here at all? So many existential questions came up as I looked at Canada's longest pier with no water underneath.

Don't get me wrong, I was breathless looking at the distant blue sky, and the distant blue mountains, and the distant blue ocean. I couldn't shake that feeling that something was missing though.
I went for an epic hike around the beach with the idea of returning to this spot and exploring the pier more carefully, but by the time I returned I was beat, plus the tide was still low, and the pier was still waterless. I looked at the waves lapping on the shore, and the crowds along the pier. I decided to call it a day and go for a seafood snack instead in one of the fine restaurants along the waterfront. Beautiful city! Perhaps I would return another day.

It's not something you see every day, but even without water, it's beautiful!
I wanted to go under it, but it was already late and the tide was finally coming in.
So long... and it never reaches the water 😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
