Echoes of History
Such a romantic building, it's a shame that it looks so rundown. It also looks very old, and I would say approaching historic. Beautiful creamy yellow and dark matte red. Surely, it must have some heritage value. I like those balconies. They look like they were placed there for someone to just have a quick smoke or breath of fresh air. I'm not sure why some of them don't have doorways; perhaps they were upgraded from the original, and now the balconies are just there for aesthetics.

I also love the balconies and mosaics. It's very old, but worth maintaining...
Buildings from another era are so cool, and I was glad to have come across this one in Santo Domingo.
🤗🤗🤗
From one perspective I can see it as being romantic, from another I can see societal failure... its a work of love by whoever designed and built it, but time and society haven't been kind to it. as a photo its an interesting subject matter - juxtaposing historical heritage with urban decay.
Well said, @ankapolo! Thankfully, I also saw a lot of renovation and upgrading in the surrounding area. There was construction everywhere associated with historical structures. It seemed like a race against time, and it was great to see all the activity.
that's good to hear, I've seen efforts like this also done in Panama - in their historic district. The balconies were is such bad shape that they had to support them with scaffolding while restoration was underway. But that was over 10 years ago... I wonder how its doing now
Hopefully, they're doing great against the forces of time and human reason :) Sadly, we also have a few places here in my city that need some love, but if worse comes to worse, we just pick up the building and move it somewhere else. 😆
Haha!
