How do you stay motivated?

avatar

I had recently some discussions with people on hive. Especially people who are on hive for a long time tend to have at moments motivation issues. Maybe they don't know what to write about anymore or they lose the energy to comment and interact. How about you?

Do you feel demotivated on hive at times? And how do you motivate yourself?

Please leave your answer as a comment below this post.

I can't say that I feel demotivated myself on hive. But sometimes I feel that I maybe loose moments coz I publish posts not so often as I wish.
To keep myself motivated I just remember to my self that it's my choice and I'd like to be with hive and community!

That's a good way of thinking! I have to exercise that too...

Yeah, there are times when I feel a bit low or stuck on Hive, especially when things don't go as expected.
But I try to remind myself why I started, focus on the positives, and engage with the communities.
It really helps to take breaks and come back with fresh ideas too.

That's a good point. Sometimes spending too much time on hive can be negative and getting out of the house and do something totally different can allow us to get a fresh approach on things.

I do feel unmotivated at times here at Hive. I think that as time goes by, we get tired of a certain routine, so things seem to get harder. The more time passes and the more things stay the same, I think this only increases the lack of motivation.

I realize that I no longer have the energy to write and I'm going on 4 years at Hive. I love everything I've achieved and learned here, my friends, the knowledge, everything! I became one of the founders of the HiveBR community, a center to help Brazilians and everything else. I like to interact, to engage. I'm at a stage where, in order to try to cheer myself up a bit, I took on the great challenge of bringing new people to Hive and that's not easy either, but I need new things and recognition.

If there's one thing that excites me, it's being recognized, and I don't think I'm at the level I want to be yet, but I also don't know what else to do. I think I'm already doing everything that's within my reach, haha, but I like it. What motivates me is being recognized, being a positive difference in people's lives. I want to be remembered as someone who contributed to Hive's growth, and I've made this my life's mission.

I think I want to leave a legacy for everyone here

Anyway, I've been trying to post more photos or short content, like snaps, for example. Lately I've been focusing a lot on using it. It's been really fun and I've met a lot of people through it, so I guess I'm excited about that.

Maybe I'm just tired, but, sorry for the rant, it seemed like a good time to express how I'm feeling about Liotes' mission today. Thanks for everything. 😅

I understand exactly what you mean! I have to say that I was in your shoes (and maybe I'm still in) as I was looking for recognition for my work by others... But it looks like I was looking at the wrong place... I wanted to be spotted by some big "community leaders", to get some "rank" or such for the work that I did, but it never came...

On the other side, where I didn't look, the recognition was there... From the newbies that I help on their journey, from friends that I meet and work together, and from regular readers of my blog...

I suppose that my problem (and maybe yours too) was that I was looking too much up, instead of looking down... Searching for recognition of "big boys" who don't care about me or my work... That was probably one of the biggest motivations to start Liotes with Achim, and doing something on our own, helping "regular" people... Even in a simple way as with these missions... People come, share their worries and issues, and feel better... There is no better recognition than that...

But we are not machines, and I do understand your point of view... We sometimes need a few nice words to stay motivated and to continue...

You are doing a great job! Keep building the BR community and focus on those people who add value to YOUR journey! All the best! 🍺

Thank you for your words, they really calmed me down and I realize that I have the same feeling that you mentioned. I think I'm trying to get so much attention from those above me that I forget about those I helped down below and who I still help.

I also feel good when I can help people. Many newbies started following me and I exchanged many ideas with them and was able to give them great support. I think that's what I have to do, keep going and helping, and one day my time will come!

Thank you for your support and for these kind words. Sometimes that's all we want to read/hear. Thank you very much! ❤️

it is impossible for any people to avoid feeling demotivated here, everyone will eventually have it, maybe the intensity and frequency are different on each person and each case.

For my case, I am an auditory person, so I like to talk and chatting too. Sometime, delivering shitposts everywhere can be similar to trashtalking and trolling on social media, which is similar with a recreational activity.

so what can I say?

I think what drives the most people demotivated up to quitting is that they get too fixated with how much they "SHOULD" or "MUST" earn here. Most of us here forget to have fun or atleast to be more casual and free

What's most discouraging about a long-term Hiver is the sameness, because you post the same things every day and it seems like it doesn't change and falls into a routine. Another thing is the lack of interaction, because it's hard to see that anyone has consumed your content.
I try to be more active on Hive, but the busyness of everyday life makes it difficult. What motivates me at Hive is the possibility of growth, especially financially. Growing in the midst of a few projects is the way to always stay motivated.

I don't know exactly how to express myself in this. I'm starting from the fact that I'm a blogger. And I write about what happened to me. Sometimes, it's a lot; sometimes, it's not. But this motivation is like an appetite with me. It never runs out. 😂It's become a way of life for me over the last eight years, and of course, I also notice that it's all a kind of routine, which is also dull and sometimes tiring, especially when it comes to curating and commenting.
But then a new day comes, and it's better again. 😎
I don't have any illusions about visibility; life has taught me that I'm not one of those who are always in the forefront, and I don't feel embarrassed about it. There are people here with whom I interact as a friend and that counts too, I even think that's the most that can be achieved in an on-line community.

Hehehe... I can identify with those words... Most of my life, I was that "invisible" guy, that nobody sees or cares... and then, when you get some "power" suddenly, people come to you... unfortunately, mostly "wrong" people for the wrong reasons... 😃

Do you feel demotivated on hive at times? And how do you motivate yourself?

I have often felt demotivated on Hive. And I've found 2 things that are important to me.

  1. Set realistic posting goals. Because I can't find the time to post everyday. Though I admire people who do make that commitment. But for me, I'm more motivated if I say that I will post whenever I can.
  2. Have clear targets for rewards. I've been demotivated occasionally by slow growth in the value of my Hive wallet. But I don't really know what to expect. So I'm working on setting some reasonable growth targets. Because I think that will motivate me to post more frequently.

Overall, I think it's best to see what motivates or demotivates you. But it's really useful to get tips from other people to consider. So I look forward to seeing more comments here.

I don't feel demotivated on Hive. If anything, if I feel demotivated overall, that may affect my motivation on Hive, as well. To recover from that, I don't have a sure method. It may depend on what causes it. Sometimes I don't know what causes it and first I need to understand why to be able to fix it.

It's a good point to try to isolate the reason for our demotivation to go forward. Recently, I felt demotivated mainly because of all the political evolutions in the world. When I realised the impact it had on me, I simply stopped looking at the news and I feel better thanks to that...

To me Oz depends from day to day, some days I feel very motivated and I post , I comment and interact, others days I have a lack of motivation but honestly most of the time I'm in the middle I must confess some times I don't know what to write for a lack of inspiration and so I search some contest or weekly/ monthly prompt that inspired me.

My motivation for posting on Hive is at a long time low for now. It’s largely due to busyness at work. Of course the influx of AI posts and bots on Hive does discourage me from doing more in Hive. I wonder if I am interacting with real people most of the time. If there is a community that has only real people, that will enhance my motivation. Lastly, the market situation is also pretty dumping to our interest on the platform.

I believe it's important to try to figure out where the real people are and stick to such communities. It's true that we have some quantity of AI and bot commenting that sometimes is unnerving.

What motivated me to begin contributing to the Hive blockchains, @liotes, was the opportunity to interact with others all over our shrinking planet. What I have found is the degree to which this social experiment pays people to interact with others has a direct bearing on whether or not that will actually take place. And, if it does, whether or not we can consider it to be genuine.

Of course that is the purpose, as I understand it, of the Hive blockchain. Like anything else in life, until we experience something ourselves, we probably don't fully understand it.

"How do you stay motivated?"

Great question, although it appears this is being asked of your long-term followers.

Whether I ever achieve becoming a long-term contributor to Hive will be primarily dependent upon how successfully I satisfy my primary motivation. Along the way, at the end of my first month, I will be challenged by the necessary time commitment and the degree to which I can keep getting paid and interacting with others completely separate. The jury is still out for me as to whether or not combining these two big motivators of human behavior was a good idea.

This is what has made the most sense to me, as well, @achim03. The financial aspect is unavoidable, nonetheless, as that is the foundation on which this blockchain was built. It is a work-in-progress for me to decide whether I can justify the time and effort to even a pretense of working around this.

Good question.
I have struggled the last six months. There were people I used to interact with on mine and their blogs daily ... people like mypathtofire, hoosie, coquicoin and a few others. They have taken a break or cut right down on their posts and engagement.
I actually have a draft post about how do you replace your regulars...
It is demotivating. I love to help people and we meet new people all the time. Being a moderator in Silver Bloggers is fun but can be demotivating too if it becomes a chore if it is only me doing it all.
I love reading some of these comments.
The tengo of now is not the tengo when I joined in late 2021.
I was never one for chasing the big boys. I like being with my peers.
I see a fair few people basically saying they get stuck in a rut, with posting the same things, doing the same routine.
First off, take a step back and remember what made it fun, what made Hive fun?
Start doing that again!
I have got into a routine with the communities that I interact with and generally post on certain days.
But within that day that changes, and learn to say fluff it, and post what you want when you want.

The big thing I have found is that people focus on posting... not interacting and engaging like they did before.

Go and talk to a new newbie everyday, that is not boring. I do that in InLeo with our @mmonline account. It is quite fun when they I am talking as I am some newbie too!

Well this is another long assed ramble, I just posted a 1600 word post earlier.

Great question and I shall be back to interact with some answers and comments after I write a @mmonline post possibly about ... How do you deal with writer's block! Or I might let @deraaa do that one tomorrow.

It's tough when the people around you are disapearing one by one, because it's the people who are the glue that keeps everything together. For me it was the same, you build relationships, read people's posts and then suddenly they just stop writing. It's like you have to find new people and restart from zero and not everybody has the energy to do that.

Look, who doesn’t feel demotivated by things in life? This is no different. Of course, I enjoy being here, and sometimes external factors affect our motivation, but I find it interesting that whenever something bad happens, I focus on the good things, especially the friendships I’ve made here, and that keeps me going. I like Hive, and it’s a part of who I am today, but I admit that sometimes I feel like taking a break and stepping away. But then I remember that I have a legacy to build here, and as I lead some projects, my work is necessary. So, what better way to stay motivated than by creating something?

it is human to be unmotivated at time, but one thing I learn is that sometimes when we can make more than one post aday, it is better to keep it on draft of schedule post, so that when come the days we feel unmotivated, than we still have post to public and we can still interact with the other through curating and commenting, it might lighten up the mood and make you feel motivated again.

at least the burden to make post is not as much as when we want to make it on daily basis.

Sometimes we lose motivation in general, affecting our activities both irl and online. I feel unmotivated in general. To motivate myself, I usually take a quick shower which really seems to help in washing away all the bad feelings, jokes, and grime of course. Music is also a very strong motivator for me and it gives me many creative ideas...
I like to combine both of these motivators actually. It is doubly effective and also helps me track time!
I am extremely unmotivated when it comes to Hive specifically, though. Not because I have a lack of ideas; quite the contrary actually!

Motivation is often linked to our general state of mind. If we feel down and negative, it's much more difficult to do something productive. I like to figure out why I feel down and then try to 'reprogram' myself. I doesn't always work though :-)

I have been lately out of ideas for the post. The ones i get, doesn't seem to excite me so i abandon it halfway.

This month i even missed few days posting and was unaware until i checked hivebuzz.

But said all that, i still turn up everyday on Hive, if not posts then i do threads, comment on few posts and play risingstargame :-).

So i think my motivation is keep increaing my hive power and HBD savings.

Well, let's start with a short text. I think the word "unmotivated" might not be the best one to use, but rather "frustrated." Whoever has never stopped to think that sometimes they are not recognized should cast the first stone. I think that most people who continue posting weekly/trying to add content at some point in this journey have become frustrated with this. In addition, some discussions end up being a bit unfair in my opinion, for example, now the new trend is talking about KE and delegation.

But I think first of all that the essence of the hive is the community, so if you are penalized for delegating your decision-making power to a project, do you deserve to be "punished"? That is wrong in my opinion, because you and many other people are trying to create projects and connect people. You didn't just take your money or vote for friends. You let a community vote for many people and create a path of growth for many.

Second, another thing I think is wrong is to use the KE magic formula without taking into account the tokens that the person has, because they "didn't" take the money from the ecosystem, it is invested in the community.

These are things that make us think and get discouraged many times, but it's like that saying... we have to stay consistent and try to do our best, helping little by little, posting, commenting, acting in a way that seeks to grow little by little.

Great question this week.

Such things can be frustrating and I think that it's important to know that such initiatives always appeared on hive. What is important to know is that not everybody sees things the same way. I don't want to support abusive behaviour on hive but I don't think that some metrics can explain it all. There are some people who write with one account and have their hive power for curating on another. Such things can't be measured by KE and therefore I think that it gives an indication but it shouldn't be overwalued either...

I think it's very important where you say that we don't want abusive behavior in the hive, but that we should always try to find a balance and not a witch hunt.

I understand the point of KE and the point about delegations... On a personal level, "I fit the narrative" (my KE is solid, and I don't delegate most of my HP), but I don't agree with the witchhunt that is happening because of those things...
It's just missing the point of valuable content and some other problems that are still unsolved... like monetizing content...

I would like to see more people doing manual curation with all their HP and growing it... Growing their accounts and helping others, but there shouldn't be a hammer over the head if you want to take some of the profits of your work and contribution...

I totally agree with you, a lot is being lost and it may even lead to the loss of more content creators in Hive. One thing I always emphasize is that there is no point in looking for new users if we lose the users who post regularly.

In addition, for example, I currently have $76 in LENM, because I love being present in the Liotes project, which is a lively community in Hive, which also has the appreciation of second-layer tokens. Why shouldn't this be included in the KE calculation? Today, at the current price, this already means that I have 304 HIVE in tokens, in addition to assets in other games in the hive...

Regarding delegation, it's cool to do manual curation. There are texts that are really excellent, but sometimes people don't have time to access the hive and read several texts. I think that at least one text will take you about 10 minutes to really reflect on it. In addition to the texts, people have other things to do in the hive. There are often not enough hours to do everything, since people still have their personal and professional lives.

It's a valid question!

I do feel unmotivated once in a while. We are all human after all. Sometimes I don't have good votes over a period of time, or sometimes I see the price of Hive dropping and dropping.

But for me, I know it's a temporary feeling and it will go away after a while. There are also posts that I have gotten good votes as well, and there are always ups and downs because we can't control these things.

And there are days where I just take a break if I don't have much to write about and just too tired from real life stuff. And then I came back in a few days.

Taking a break is a simple but effective way to get fresh energy, a new perspective, and motivation to continue building! 💪

Hello @liotes. You touch on a subject that has plagued me the past several years. Motivating myself to start or continue new projects is the top of the list as far as my desire to stay active. After working thirty-five years in a high-pressure environment, I retired with the commitment to do less and only if I'm truly inspired. The day of "had to" was behind me.

I devoted myself to traveling because I didn't get the chance to during my career. But I wanted something to occupy my time when not traveling. I was lured online by my daughters. @ph1102 and I are familiar with each other as we were members of the CTP Tribe.

I've been online now since July, 2019. The aspects I enjoy are engagement and supporting Hive members. But the challenges of deciding what to post (what I love vs. what is popular or may bring in more rewards) sometimes causes a lack of motivation. I decided to just create what I enjoy, short fiction and creating mixed media art projects.

Just like offline, I have difficulty motivating myself to declutter, which is part of my minimalist lifestyle I adopted. But decluttering is not just for the physical. It's mental as well. Creativity is sometimes hampered with numerous issues needing attention. I'm a senior citizen with underlying health issues. Some days my motivation level is low. The thought of sitting at the computer all day is daunting.

But I love writing and creating, so I try my best. When I'm feeling well, I produce numerous drafts of items as thoughts occur. Then it's easier to publish. Once published, I enjoy engaging with others to see how they interpret my content. That serves as a motivator because I enjoy rewarding others for taking time to visit and spending time engaging with me.

I just wish I had more energy health wise.

Thanks for the topic. I enjoyed participating.

I suppose that many of us got into that "trap", thinking that we can do "better" if we post something that is more "valuable" (I would say more upvoted but not more valuable) than to post what we like! I'm glad that you chose to go into a direction where you do what you like, as there is a place where you can "offer the most!" To help others, to inspire them, and to feel better as you did what you like...

Of course, we all have our bad days... The most important thing is that we can find that light that leads us back to the right path...

It's ridiculous to compare, but I will do it... It's like "investing" your time and money in certain tokens, and the price continues dropping... You get sad, demotivated, scared... But nothing changed with the token... The fundamentals are the same, strong... That's the light that keeps us going... The same as our work that we invested in sharing stuff that we like, that maybe helped others... That helps us to continue... as it is/was worth it!

Thanks for your comment! 🍷

It was a pleasure to participate. I try to stay true to my commitment each day. You are correct in that I enjoy sharing the work that satisfies me most. Receiving feedback on my design or processes as I share how I created it and readers learning new programs and procedures makes the effort worthwhile.

I appreciate your response and engagement. Take care.

Hello. The other day I was analyzing my tokens and realized that I hold Liotes. I visited the website and discovered the two new diesel pools. Since I own other liquidity pools, I decided to give those two a try with the small holdings I own. Thanks for your efforts in that.

Take care.

The LEN:LENM pool has additional rewards attached, while LEN:SWAP.HIVE doesn't have rewards (only transaction fee rewards)... If you have a small position in LEN:LENM, there is a chance that you will not receive rewards if the token value (of rewards) is too small...

Thanks for clarifying the difference between the two pools. I'll check my liquid in each and rebalance if possible. Take care.

These days, I simply write what I feel, typically about what happened that day. The words come out as they will. They're primarily simple blogs, and recently a weekly contest (which I like).

Sometimes I feel more motivated and write things out a bit ahead of time and schedule them, which helps out when I have upcoming plans and/or may want to take some time off from writing.

I also have a backlog of blogs I've prewritten consisting of educational material relating to my career, so in case I'm ever gone for an extended period, I can easily schedule those out as well. Those are helpful for my studies, so it's doubly efficient for me.

In life in general... well, my family motivates me to continue working. I want to be able to take care of them. Personal ambitions are also significant for me and continue to drive me. I want to leave some impact that's a little bit bigger than most (I know it's not good to compare myself to others, but in this case it drives me, so I let it be).

The prospect of earned relaxation is also a nice one, although I keep finding ways to delay that. There will come a time when I will have to learn to loosen up!
