The route of coffee in Santiago de Cuba
Hello, Coffee Lovers!
Today I was at the facilities of the Alliance Française here in Santiago de Cuba and I attended a very interesting conference held by a local project. This project is in charge of making routes (they call it the coffee route) with the aim of discovering places, either in the city or in rural areas, that are closely related to coffee, from its cultivation to the infinite ways of preparation of this beverage so deeply rooted in our Cuban traditions.
They talked about many topics (all related to coffee), from the ruins of old coffee plantations that they visited, to preparation methods that are innovative in this part of the country, such as cold coffee preparations. Several places in the city of Santiago de Cuba that work with this product were mentioned. Such as 'Café Gracia Latina', 'Café Casa Dranguet' and 'Café Boruch'. All these places are triumphant in the quality of their products and preferred by the public.
I learned about very beautiful rural places with a lot of history that I did not know, and others that I had always heard about, such as the Limoncito mountains, which are very close to my hometown, Contramaestre, where the coffee-growing tradition has not died. It was even said that there is one of these villages that still keep their French roots alive, to such an extent that they identify themselves much more with their French roots than with the Cuban ones. Incredible indeed.
After a whole dissertation on the subject, they proceeded to the raffle (which I was close to win, but it did not happen) and then we enjoyed a cocktail and several tastings of the star drink of that conference, coffee. Delicious those coffees that were prepared right there for the public present. And it is always pleasing to the soul to see people enjoying together such an ancient and divine tradition as sharing a cup of coffee.
I really enjoyed this experience, and the best thing about it is that I wasn't even planning to be there. I simply arrived almost by fate and I am thankful for that.
Well, that's all for today. Thanks for reading.
See you soon hivers
