A few days ago we celebrated my eldest nephew's birthday and wanted to treat him by taking him somewhere different, surrounded by nature. So, along with some friends, we decided to visit Rino's restaurant, located in Havana's beautiful Metropolitan Park.
This restaurant offers a wide and varied selection of Italian food, one of our favorites. Although my favorite dish is pasta carbonara—which I had already tried there and loved—this time I opted for a Hawaiian pizza, my son's favorite. It was my way of including him in the celebration, even though he was virtually far away. I always think of him, especially on special occasions like this.

Hace unos días celebramos el cumpleaños de mi sobrino mayor y quisimos agasajarlo llevándolo a un lugar diferente, rodeado de naturaleza. Así fue como, junto a unos amigos, decidimos visitar el restaurante Rino’s, ubicado en el hermoso Parque Metropolitano de La Habana.
Este restaurante ofrece una amplia y variada oferta de comida italiana, una de nuestras favoritas. Aunque mi plato predilecto es la pasta a la carbonara —que ya había probado allí y me encantó—, en esta ocasión opté por una pizza hawaiana, la favorita de mi hijo. Fue mi manera de hacerlo partícipe de la celebración, aunque esté lejos físicamente. Siempre lo tengo presente, sobre todo en momentos especiales como este.
The service at Rino's was excellent. The staff were so friendly and helpful that we felt very welcome. For starters, we ordered cheese balls, chicken nuggets, and croquettes—all delicious. I had a refreshing lemonade with my meal, my nephew chose a large ice cream milkshake, and my mom, in her own unique style, ordered a nice cold Cristal beer. The waitress, laughing, remarked that that was a good choice indeed.
La atención en Rino’s fue estupenda. Las dependientas nos atendieron con una amabilidad y disposición que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos. Como entrantes pedimos bolitas de queso, nuggets de pollo y croquetas, todo delicioso. Yo acompañé mi comida con una refrescante limonada, mi sobrino eligió una gran copa de batido de helado, y mi mamá, con su estilo inconfundible, pidió una cerveza Cristal bien fría. La dependienta, entre risas, comentó que esa sí era una buena elección.
Beyond the food, what captivated me most was the natural ambiance of the place. Each table is arranged differently, the furniture has varied designs, and the ceilings blend seamlessly with the surroundings. It's a space where nature and comfort embrace, creating a charming contrast. In the center of the restaurant stands an enormous tree that shades much of the area. Small dovecotes perch on its branches, and several large clay pots rest at its base. Among them, I was surprised to discover the figure of a güije, that mythical mischievous goblin of Afro-Cuban folklore, guardian of the rivers and mountains. It was a discovery that made me smile.
Más allá de la comida, lo que más me cautivó fue el ambiente natural del lugar. Cada mesa está dispuesta de forma distinta, los muebles tienen diseños variados y los techos se integran con el entorno. Es un espacio donde la naturaleza y el confort se abrazan, creando un contraste encantador. En el centro del restaurante hay un enorme árbol que brinda sombra a gran parte del área. En sus ramas se posan pequeñas casitas de palomas, y a sus pies descansan varios tinajones. Entre ellos, descubrí con sorpresa la figura de un güije, ese mítico duende travieso del folclore afrocubano, guardián de los ríos y los montes. Fue un hallazgo que me hizo sonreír.
Even the bathrooms have a unique design: simple yet creative. The sink is mounted on an antique sewing machine, and nearby there's a corner decorated with a giant spoon and fork, like a sculptural ensemble. It's a rustic setting, with potted plants everywhere, reinforcing that welcoming and natural atmosphere.
For the little ones, there's an entertainment area where they can play while they wait to be served. I thought it was a brilliant idea, especially for those children who haven't yet mastered the art of adult patience.
Incluso los baños tienen un diseño singular: sencillos pero creativos. El lavamanos está montado sobre una antigua máquina de coser, y en un área cercana hay un rincón decorado con una cuchara y un tenedor gigantes, como un set escultórico. Es un ambiente rústico, con macetas y plantas por doquier, que refuerza esa atmósfera acogedora y natural.
Para los más pequeños, hay un espacio de entretenimiento donde pueden jugar mientras esperan ser atendidos. Me pareció una idea genial, sobre todo para esos niños que aún no dominan el arte de la paciencia adulta.
As I explored the area, I was captivated by the lush vegetation. Beyond the picnic tables, I discovered a large stone fountain surrounded by plants. Although it was dry at the time, a man sat in its center, seemingly meditating. The atmosphere was cool, shady, and quiet, ideal for contemplation. The fountain has a bridge leading up through the vegetation, and although it seemed somewhat neglected, I felt it had great potential. It would be wonderful if it were renovated, as it would add even more beauty to this natural setting.
Mientras exploraba el lugar, quedé absorta observando la abundante vegetación. Más allá del área de mesas, descubrí una gran fuente de piedra rodeada de plantas. Aunque en ese momento no tenía agua, en su centro había un hombre sentado, como meditando. El ambiente era fresco, sombreado y silencioso, ideal para la contemplación. La fuente tiene un puente de acceso entre la vegetación, y aunque parecía algo olvidada, me pareció un rincón con gran potencial. Sería maravilloso que la renovaran, pues aportaría aún más belleza a este entorno natural.
On the other side of the restaurant, nestled among the vegetation, a small building resembling a thatched hut caught my eye. I approached and discovered an entrance decorated with a giant stool, a charming visual detail that, amidst the lush greenery, has set the stage for this multisensory experience.
Al otro lado del restaurante, entre la vegetación, me llamó la atención una pequeña construcción con apariencia de bohío. Me acerqué y descubrí una entrada decorada con un taburete gigante, un detalle visual encantador que, en medio de la frondosa vegetación, completó esta experiencia multisensorial.
It was a lovely outing, with a special purpose, great company, and delicious food. I hope that through my photos you were able to feel a little of the magic of this place.

Me encantó el paseo y la celebración, fue un momento realmente especial. Disfruto muchísimo estar en lugares rodeados de naturaleza, me llenan de paz y alegría. La decoración de los jabones me pareció preciosa, tan delicada y creativa… ¡me inspiró a intentar algo parecido en casa!
