Double shift, from Plaza to Arroyo
Hello, my friends at Daily Blog. I hope you had a beautiful day, one of those that feels like a breath of fresh air during the weekend. Here in Cuba, the weather has been especially pleasant; the sun isn't too strong, and the sky has been dressed in that soft blue I love so much, dotted with clouds that looked like cotton balls. When the sky is like this, I can't help but think of my maternal grandfather, who had a very peculiar way of admiring it. He spoke of the sky as if it were a cobblestone road. And every time I see it like this, I feel like he's speaking to me in his language.
This Saturday was a double-header for me. In the morning, I took a break from Chocolates Alile, my sweetest and most personal project, to attend to an urgent matter at the small business I advise. The administrator asked for my help updating the Accounts Receivable and Payable files, as well as verifying the current contracts. So I left early, my mind focused on numbers, but my heart open to the scenery.
Hola, mis amigos de Dayli Blog. Espero que hayan tenido un día bonito, de esos que se sienten como un respiro dentro del fin de semana. Aquí en Cuba el clima ha estado especialmente agradable; el sol no quema tanto y el cielo se ha vestido con ese azul suave que tanto me gusta, salpicado de nubes que parecían motas de algodón. Cuando el cielo se pone así, no puedo evitar pensar en mi abuelo materno, que tenía una forma muy peculiar de admirarlo. Él hablaba del cielo como si fuera un camino empedrado. Y yo, cada vez que lo veo así, siento que me habla en su idioma.
Este sábado fue para mí una jornada doble. En la mañana, me alejé un poco de Chocolates Alile, mi proyecto más dulce y personal, para atender una urgencia en la Mipyme que asesoro. La administradora me pidió apoyo para actualizar los expedientes de Cuentas por Cobrar y Pagar, además de verificar los contratos vigentes. Así que salí temprano, con la mente enfocada en números, pero con el corazón abierto al paisaje.
The road to Arroyo Naranjo, where the microenterprise is located, is long and winding. I live in Plaza de la Revolución, a central municipality, and crossing the city always offers unexpected sights. As you travel along Calzada Dolores, you see several businesses and small stalls in every doorway. There are also various food stands along the way.
El camino hacia Arroyo Naranjo, donde está ubicada la Mipyme, es largo y lleno de altos y bajos. Yo vivo en Plaza de la Revolución, un municipio central, y cruzar la ciudad siempre me regala escenas inesperadas. Al transitar por la calzada Dolores, se observan varios negocios y pequeños puntos de venta en cada portal. Además, hay diferentes puestos de viandas a lo largo del camino.
The daily bustle of the entire avenue mingled with an image that made me slow my pace: a blue dome, serene and majestic, rose above the neighborhood as if gazing from another time. I was told that it had once served as a nursing home, but its architecture spoke to me of ancient rituals, of memories yet to be told. It was a moment of pause, as if the building were inviting me to name it, to include it in my narrative universe.
El bullicio cotidiano de toda esa avenida se mezclaba con una imagen que me hizo disminuir el paso; una cúpula azul, serena y majestuosa, se alzaba sobre el barrio como si mirara desde otro tiempo. Me explicaron que en algún momento funcionó como hogar de ancianos, pero su arquitectura me hablaba de rituales antiguos, de memorias que aún no han sido contadas. Fue un instante de pausa, como si el edificio me invitara a nombrarlo, a incluirlo en mi universo narrativo.
I arrived at the microenterprise and immersed myself in an intense day. Reviewing files, reconciling figures, updating contracts… everything required attention and a methodical approach. But the work paid off: at the end of the day, everything was organized, clear, and in order. Just when I thought my day was over, I received a call from Chocolates Alile. A client wanted two boxes of decorated mini-donuts, something only I make. And of course, I said yes.
Llegué a la Mipyme y me sumergí en una jornada intensa. Revisar expedientes, cuadrar cifras, actualizar contratos… todo requería atención y método. Pero el trabajo rindió frutos: al final del día, todo quedó organizado, claro y en orden. Justo cuando pensaba que mi jornada había terminado, recibí una llamada de Chocolates Alile. Un cliente deseaba dos cajas de minidonas decoradas, algo que solo yo realizo. Y por supuesto, dije que sí.
As soon as I got home, I got to work. I prepared the mini donuts with my characteristic care, paying attention to every detail, every color, every decorative touch. They turned out beautifully, and the best part: the customer picked them up today, right on time. It was a hectic day, yes, but also deeply rewarding. Because I rediscovered the meaning of what I do and the responsibility I take on with every commitment.
Apenas llegué a casa, me puse manos a la obra. Preparé las minidonas con el cariño que me caracteriza, cuidando cada detalle, cada color, cada trazo de decoración. Quedaron preciosas, y lo mejor: el cliente las recogió hoy, justo a tiempo. Fue una jornada atropellada, sí, pero también profundamente gratificante. Porque encontré una vez más el sentido de lo que hago y la responsabilidad que asumo con cada compromiso.
It was a day full of creative and intellectual work, but I'm happy to have accomplished both and, moreover, to have appreciated the journey.
