The Story of Fuffi: From 85 Grams to His First Discoveries
In the first post, I told you how we found Fuffi, a little kitten abandoned by his mother, during a weekend in Santa Maria di Leuca, 370 km from my home.

I interrupted the story of Fuffi with the first visit to the vet, which was our first stop as soon as we returned to the city.
After leaving the vet, my wife went to work while my daughter and I went first to a pet store to buy a bottle and milk for kittens a few days old, and then we stopped by a pharmacy to buy the antibiotic cream that the vet had prescribed to treat Fuffi's eye infection.
Before going home, we stopped at the garage where my sister was waiting for us with a soft blanket in which we wrapped Fuffi.
The blanket had a positive effect because Fuffi stopped crying for a few minutes.
I left Fuffi in my sister's arms while I went upstairs to prepare milk for Fuffi.
In the next photo, you can see Fuffi's first feeding from a bottle instead of a syringe.
This was the moment when Fuffi ate the most milk (20 ml), stopped crying completely, and gave us his first purrs :).
I took a cardboard box, put Fuffi inside, and we went up to the house.
From that moment on, a daily routine began consisting of:
- feeding every 3 hours
- stimulation for his needs
- antibiotic cream for his eye morning and evening
- constant warmth
- lots of love and cuddles
I was very happy to see my daughter taking such good care of Fuffi.
My daughter is 11 years old and she fed Fuffi most of the time during the day, while I almost always fed him at night.
In the next photo, my daughter is holding Fuffi as he drinks his milk.
I had never seen such a tiny kitten drinking from a bottle, and I can assure you that it was a truly beautiful and amusing sight, because every time he fed, Fuffi would move his ears too :)
On Fuffi's first day at home, we weighed him: 85 grams!
A real “little thing” when you consider that 85 grams is more or less the weight of a slice of bread.
After the first two days at the beach, during which Fuffi drank very little milk and cried almost continuously, perhaps hoping for his mother's return, the crying finally became a distant memory and gave way to long sleeps.
A kitten like Fuffi, who is about 10 days old, needs constant warmth, and my daughter was a great help in meeting this need because, especially in the early days, she often held Fuffi in her arms.
Fuffi started drinking more and more milk, and we moved him from the box to a carrier with the entrance always open.
Fuffi began his first, albeit brief, explorations around the house and, between stumbles and falls, became more and more confident.
During the first week, we also had our first concerns because Fuffi wasn't pooping. For this reason, we went back to the vet, who gave him an ultrasound and suggested he might have an malabsorption disorder.
Fortunately, the day after the vet visit, Fuffi pooped, and we breathed a sigh of relief.
During the first visit, the vet told us that if Fuffi made it past 7 days, he would be out of danger.
We took Fuffi to the vet on June 30, 2025.
I took the next photo on July 12, 2025, and as you can see, Fuffi is drinking milk from a bottle but is already bigger, weighing almost 250 grams and having successfully passed the critical week indicated by the vet.
Initially, my wife and I were sure of only one thing: we had to save Fuffi! But we didn't know whether to keep him because we already have two cats.
In reality, even though we didn't want to admit it, we already knew that we would keep him with us, but we made the final decision when an association asked us if we wanted to give Fuffi to a couple in Rome.
Fuffi is now, in every way, a member of my family, which consists of me, my wife, my daughter, and three adorable cats: Cuki, Mia, and Fuffi!
Oh, I almost forgot, we discovered that Fuffi is deaf, but love doesn't need to hear...
But Fuffi's story doesn't end here... because it will continue in the next post.

La storia di Fuffi: da 85 grammi alle prime esplorazioni
Nel primo post vi ho raccontato di come abbiamo trovato Fuffi, un piccolo gattino abbandonato dalla mamma, durante un weekend a Santa Maria di Leuca che si trova a 370Km da casa mia.

Ho interrotto il racconto della storia di Fuffi con la prima visita dal veterinario che è stata la prima sosta appena siamo ritornati in città.
Usciti dal veterinario, mia moglie è andata al lavoro mentre io e mia figlia siamo andati prima in un negozio per animali per comprare un biberon e il latte per gattini di pochi giorni e poi siamo passati per una farmacia per comprare la crema antibiotica che ci ha prescritto il veterinario per curare l'infezione all'occhio di Fuffi.
Prima di salire a casa ci siamo fermati nel garage dove c'era mia sorella ad aspettarci con una morbida coperta in cui abbiamo avvolto Fuffi.
La copertina ha avuto un effetto positivo perché Fuffi ha smesso di piangere per qualche minuto.
Ho lasciato Fuffi in braccio a mia sorella mentre io sono salito a casa per preparare il latte da dare a Fuffi.
Nella prossima foto puoi vedere la prima poppata di Fuffi dal biberon invece che dalla siringa.
E' stato questo il momento in cui Fuffi ha mangiato più latte (20 ml), ha smesso completamente di piangere e ci ha regalato le prime fusa :).
Io ho preso una scatola di cartone, abbiamo messo dentro Fuffi e siamo saliti a casa.
Da quel momento è iniziata una routine quotidiana fatta di:
- poppate ogni 3 ore
- stimolazione per i bisogni
- crema antibiotica per l'occhio mattina e sera
- calore costante
- tanto amore e tante coccole
Sono stato molto felice di vedere mia figlia prendersi molta cura di Fuffi.
Mia figlia ha 11 anni e molte delle poppate di giorno le ha date lei a Fuffi mentre io ho quasi sempre dato le poppate notturne.
Nella prossima foto c'è mia figlia con in braccio Fuffi che beve il latte.
Non avevo mai visto un gattino così piccolo bere dal biberon e vi posso assicurare che è un'immagine davvero bella e anche divertente perché ad ogni poppata Fuffi muoveva anche le orecchie :)
Il primo giorno di Fuffi a casa lo abbiamo pesato: 85 grammi!
Davvero uno "scricciolo" se consideri che 85 grammi è più o meno il peso di una fetta di pane.
Dopo i primi due giorni al mare in cui Fuffi aveva bevuto pochissimo latte e soprattutto aveva pianto quasi continuamente forse sperando nel ritorno della sua mamma finalmente i pianti sono diventati quasi un ricordo e hanno lasciato lo spazio a lunghe dormite.
Un gattino come Fuffi di circa 10 giorni di vita ha bisogno di calore costante e anche per questo bisogno di Fuffi è stata molto di aiuto mia figlia perché, soprattutto i primi giorni, ha tenuto spesso Fuffi in braccio.
Fuffi ha iniziato a bere sempre più latte e dalla scatola lo abbiamo spostato in un trasportino con l'entrate sempre aperta.
Fuffi ha iniziato le sue prime anche se brevi esplorazioni in casa e, tra barcollamenti e cadute, è diventato sempre più sicuro di sé.
Durante la prima settimana ci sono state anche le prime preoccupazioni perché Fuffi non faceva la cacca. Per questo motivo siamo tornati dal veterinario che gli ha fatto un'ecografia e ha avanzato l'ipotesi di una malattia di assorbimento.
Fortunatamente il giorno dopo la visita dal veterinario Fuffi ha fatto la cacca e abbiamo tirato un sospiro di sollievo.
Durante la prima visita il veterinario ci aveva detto che se Fuffi avesse superato i 7 giorni sarebbe stato fuori pericolo.
Abbiamo portato Fuffi dal veterinario il 30 giugno 2025.
La prossima foto l'ho scattata il 12 luglio 2025 e come puoi vedere Fuffi beve il latte dal biberon ma è già più grande, pesa quasi 250 grammi e ha superato brillantemente la settimana critica indicata dal veterinario.
Inizialmente io e mia moglie eravamo sicuri solo di una cosa: Salvare Fuffi! Ma non sapevamo se tenerlo perché abbiamo già due gatti.
In realtà anche se non volevamo ammetterlo sapevamo già che lo avremmo tenuto con noi ma la decisione definitiva l'abbiamo presa quando un'associazione ci ha chiesto se volevamo dare Fuffi ad una coppia di Roma.
Fuffi è adesso a tutti gli effetti un componente della mia famiglia che è composta da me, mia moglie, mia figlia e tre adorabili gatti: Cuki, Mia e Fuffi!
Ah dimenticavo, abbiamo scoperto che Fuffi è sordo, ma l'amore non ha bisogno di sentire...
Ma la storia di Fuffi non finisce qui… perché continuerà nel prossimo post.

Complimenti per il vostro gesto nell'aver raccolto mentre eravate in vacanza a 370 km da casa un gattino denutrito, in pessime condizioni fisiche e avergli dato le cure necessarie e sopratutto l'amore di tutta la tua famiglia! C'è chi per andare in vacanza abbandona il proprio animale domestico !!!!

Con gli animaletti sembra sempre di essere dei maniaci a controllare che facciano la cacca e che la facciano per bene 🤣 però alla fine è uno dei modi più semplici e veloci per capire come stanno, per cui nulla, loro probabilmente passeranno la vita a pensare che siamo dei maniaci feticisti !LOL

E' adorabile ma anche instancabile e giocherellone...ma avuto o visto un gatto così.
Considera che quando sta solo ed è sveglio lo troviamo che piange, vuole stare sempre in compagnia, ha un'agilità incredibile, è ipnotizzato dai giochi di qualunque tipo e ama l'acqua...come ho scritto a mad forse ho trovato il primo gatto-cane... :)

Che bellino ahahahah io sono un super amante dei cani, per cui quando mi capita di vedere/conoscere gatti che si comportano come cani non posso fare a meno di adorarli 🤣 anche la mia ragazza ne ha uno così ed è dolcissimo (anche se parecchio agitatone e prepotente, vuole sempre tutte le attenzioni per sé ahahah). Chissà come verrà su Fuffi: spero che diventi un bellissimo gatto-cane super viziato :)

Ciao, aspettavo questo post da giorni. Sono contenta che Fuffi stia meglio, che abbia preso peso e che faccia la cacca da solo. Sono contenta che lo abbiano tenuto. Nonostante avessimo due gatti, ora saranno tre. Saranno una bellissima famiglia e Fuffi ha trovato persone che lo amano. È meraviglioso, lo adoro.
Settimane fa ho cercato di salvare un gattino, ma era gravemente ferito e chiedeva solo affetto. È morto circondato dall'amore. Non ho potuto fare nulla per salvarlo, ma sono felice per Fuffi perché so che avrà una bella casa.

Anch'io aspettavo il tuo graditissimo aggiornamento sulle condizioni di Fuffi, ma ero certo che lui ce l'avrebbe fatta, perché quando l'avete incontrato sono finite le sue pene, aveva trovato l'America, nel senso che nulla di negativo poteva più capitargli e che voi sareste stati i suoi angeli custodi e così è stato, cure, attenzioni, affetto, dedizione e tutto quello di cui aveva bisogno e necessità glielo avete profuso senza sosta, semplicemente complimenti davvero...
Sto cercando di capire che tipo di gatto sia, è così certamente un meticcio, ma ha un qualcosa di qualche razza particolare, magari durante la crescita si vedrà meglio...

Grazie caro @mad-runner per aver apprezzato il post ma soprattutto la storia di Fuffi che non avevo alcun dubbio conoscendo la tua passione per i gatti :)
E' un gatto particolare che non avevo mai visto prima dal vivo, è sicuramente un incrocio con un gatto asiatico, in base ai commenti che ho ricevuto nel precedente post e in base ai gatti che ho visto sul web potrebbe avere qualcosa dei gatti asiatici tipo khao manee e gatto d'angora. Con queste due razze mi trovo con alcune particolarità di Fuffi: molto agile, giocherellone fino allo sfinimento e soprattutto, e cosa che non avevo mai riscontrato con altri gatti e soprattutto con i miei altri due gatti, Fuffi non ha paura dell'acqua ma al contrario la adora ed è ipnotizzato quasi dall'acqua... altra particolarità non vuole stare da solo e ci segue ovunque e sempre e anche quando vuole dormire lo fa vicino a noi. Forse ho trovato il primo gatto-cane? :)

Fiffi's story is so touching, my sister and I had the same similar experience with two abandoned kittens. Unfortunately, one didn't survive and the other is in critical condition at the vet. We're praying for its speedy recovery.😢😞

When cats are abandoned and young, they have little chance of survival, but helping them shows kindness, and you and your sister did a good deed by trying to save the two abandoned cats.

I remember how my youngest daughter picked a small kitten when she was five years old. The kitten has a golden color and she immediately called her Goldie. Goldie was abandoned along the Hi-way. She carried Goldie immediately and talked to her like a baby. Are you lost Goldie? where is your mom? would you mind to come to our home and you can live there. Goldie become her new friend pet. Fuffi was deaf and I hope you would take care of this cat and consider a family pet too.
Saving animals is an act of love and compassion, and you and your daughter showed great heart in saving Goldie.
Animals have a heart and feelings too. They know also how to protect and value their masters. They are loyal and very loving .
I am happy to see Fuffi recovered, you have done a great job. He is now part of your family and that comforts me, he will have a nice place to grow and will be great company for the other two cats.
I loved the phrase: "love doesn't need to hear", too bad he is deaf, but in this phrase there is a great truth. I will see the next updates.
Fate brought Fuffi into our lives, and now we have a new member of the family to love.

This was what I went through about my twin kid goats, I was really feeding them with milk on a feeding bottle,
God so kind, they survived and are two months old now, eating goats grasses on their own. This will also survive and be Alive.
