Sea, Sun, and Family: My Vacation in Santa Maria di Leuca (ENG/ITA)
I haven't posted on Hive for more than 8 days because on August 14, I jumped in the car and drove to Santa Maria di Leuca to spend 10 days relaxing with my family, enjoying the sea, the sun, and above all, with my loved ones.
Until today, the weather has been very nice, but today, even though it's hot, the sea is rough and it's not possible to swim. The only hiccup so far has been that yesterday I had a pain in my back and this afternoon I decided to stay at home to avoid straining my back and ruining the last few days of my vacation...
Santa Maria di Leuca has been a regular part of my summer vacations for many years because my mother-in-law was born in a small village near this beautiful tourist location and my in-laws bought a house here several years ago.
My vacation in Santa Maria di Leuca means especially family for me because we share the house with my in-laws and the families of my two brothers-in-law.
It's nice to spend carefree moments between swims in the sea and fun lunches and dinners talking and, above all, enjoying my mother-in-law's Apulian cuisine, as she is a very good cook.
In this post, I'm sharing some photos I took in Santa Maria di Leuca during my vacation.
In the next photo, you can see Lido Relax, the seaside lido where we spend our mornings and afternoons and where we dive into the sea.
In Santa Maria di Leuca, most of the lidos are built on platforms because it is almost entirely rocky, except for a short stretch of beach that you can see in the next photo.
August 15 is the day when Santa Maria di Leuca is most crowded with tourists because it is a festive day and there are several events to participate in and attend, such as the procession of boats at sea that accompany the statue of the Madonna di Leuca along a stretch of coastline.
Locals who believe in local legends do not swim in the sea on August 15 until the statue of the Madonna has completed its journey and returned to the marina of Santa Maria di Leuca.
On the evening of August 15, the Santa Maria di Leuca seafront is packed with people, and walking a short distance can take several minutes.
The main event for tourists is the fireworks display, which this year began one minute after midnight and lasted 17 minutes, with a truly spectacular finale that lit up the entire sky for several seconds.

Mare, Sole e Famiglia a Santa Maria di Leuca
Sono più di 8 giorni che non pubblico un post su Hive perchè il 14 agosto mi sono messo in macchina e ho raggiunto la mia famiglia a Santa Maria di Leuca per trascorrere 10 giorni in completo relax tra mare, sole e soprattutto in famiglia.
Fino ad oggi le condizioni climatiche sono state molto belle, oggi fa caldo ma il mare è mosso e non è possibile fare il bagno in mare, tra l'altro ieri ho avuto anche un dolore alla schiena e oggi pomeriggio ho preferito rimanere a casa per evitare di affaticare la schiena e per evitare di giocarmi gli ultimi giorni di vacanza...
Santa Maria di Leuca è da tanti anni una tappa fissa delle mie vacanze estive perchè mia suocera è nata in un paesino vicino a questa bella località turistica e i miei suoceri hanno comprato casa qui diversi anni fa.
La mia vacanza a Santa Maria di Leuca vuol dire per me soprattutto famiglia perchè condividiamo la casa con i miei suoceri e con le famiglie dei miei due cognati.
E' bello trascorrere momenti spensierati tra bagni in mare e divertenti pranzi e cene a chiacchierare e soprattutto a gustare la cucina pugliese di mia suocera che è molto brava a cucinare.
In questo post condivido alcune foto che ho scattato a Santa Maria di Leuca durante i primi 8 giorni della mia vacanza.
Nella prossima foto puoi vedere il Lido Relax che è il lido dove passiamo le mattine e i pomeriggi e da dove ci tuffiamo in mare.
A Santa Maria di Leuca la maggior parte dei lidi è costruita su piattaforme perchè è quasi tutta scogliera tranne un breve tratto di spiaggia che puoi vedere nella prossima foto.
Il 15 agosto è il giorno in cui Santa Maria di Leuca si riempe maggiormente di turisti perchè è un giorno di festa e ci sono diversi eventi a cui partecipare e a cui assistere come ad esempio la processione delle barche in mare che accompagnano la statua della Madonna di Leuca lungo un tratto di costa.
Chi è del posto e crede alle leggende locali non fa il bagno in mare il 15 agosto fino a quando la statua della Madonna non ha completato il suo percorso e fino a quando non rientra nel porto turistico di Santa Maria di Leuca.
La sera del 15 agosto il lungo mare di Santa Maria di Leuca è pieno di gente e fare un piccolo tratto può richiedere diversi minuti.
L'evento principale per i turisti è rappresentato dai fuochi di artificio che quest'anno sono iniziati un minuto dopo la mezzanotte e sono durati 17 minuti con un finale davvero molto molto bello che ha illuminato tutto il cielo per alcuni secondi.
