The season 155 is in progress on Splinterlands and will end in 4 days and 2 hours.

During season 154, on February 27, 2025, a new Ranked game mode was introduced: the Survival Mode.

Thanks to the addition of Survival Mode on Splinteralnds there are three Ranked game modes that can be played:

  • Wild Format: it is possible to use cards from all sets, Wild Pass must be paid each season, multi-accounts, bots and battle helpers are allowed
  • Modern Format: only cards from the last two sets released in time order can be used, multi-accounts are allowed but bots and battle helpers are prohibited
  • Survival Mode: it is possible to use cards from all sets, multi-accounts, bots and battle helpers are allowed

I consider very positively the recent introduction of Survival Mode (Feb. 27, 2025) because:

  • more game modes = more possibilities for fun
  • the Survival Mode created new use cases for cards and in particular created an interest in accumulating multiple copies of the same card because in the Survival Mode, cards that die in battle enter a cooldown period and cannot be used in the other game modes during the cooldown period.

I would have preferred a ban on bots in Survival Mode but my preference is obviously personal.

During the first season of Survival Mode I played only 48 battles.
I had fun playing in Survival Mode but my game results were not exciting from the point of view of win rate and from the point of view of rewards received.

In fact, I finished my first season in Survival Mode in the Bronze III league with a rating = 260 and my rank was 513th.

This season I have not yet played in Survival Mode because I have had a lot of work commitments and many family commitments, and I have used my little free time by prioritizing my playing in the Modern Format which is my favorite format because I like to play manually only against human players like myself and the Modern Format is the only ranked type format where the use of bots and the use of battle helpers is prohibited.

In this post I share my daily game activity in Survival Mode and also my game strategy in this format which will be very focused on playing the last day of the current season.

Before starting my daily play session in Survival Mode my starting point was:

  • Battles: 0
  • Wins: 0
  • Rating: 260
  • Tier: Bronze III
  • Avaiable Cards: 1151
  • Depleted Cards: 0
  • SPS staked: 133199 - 51000 (delegated) = 82199

In my first battle I met a player with a Power = 38160.

I could have started my game session with a victory but I had to step away from the pc just in the team creation phase and when I returned to the pc I had only 10 seconds available and I didn't have time to select two more monsters and played with only 4 cards instead of six.

First battle, first defeat and 5 cards in cooldown :(

In the second battle I met another player with not very high Power and who had only played two battles in Survival Mode using mainly level 1 cards.

In this case the difference in the level of my cards compared to my opponent's cards made the difference and I won the battle.

In the third battle I met a player with very high Power but after seeing the cards he used in his last battles I chose to play it instead of opting to use 1 weak summoner and 1 weak card.

In my session today in Survival Mode I played a total of 13 battles.

Out of 13 battles I won 6 battles and my win rate improved compared to the win rate I achieved in the previous season in this new format: +10.74%

My gains in SPS per battle won have also increased compared to the previous season but are still much lower than the gain per win I get from playing in the Diamond I league in the Modern Format:

  • my last battle won in Survival Mode: 0.304 SPS
  • my last battle won in the Modern Format: 7.72 SPS

Starting this season, I started keeping track of the SPS gains I receive from playing in Survival Mode.

This data will be important for me to evaluate in the future whether to continue playing in Survival Mode or whether it will be better to put the cards I use in Survival Mode on the rental market.

My weak point in Survival Mode is that I have few summoner cards which limits the number of battles I can play in this format.
In addition in Survival Mode I can't/won't use the cards I use in Modern Format because if I did I would risk cooldown for the cards I use in Modern Format and I would worsen my game results and also my seasonal gain in SPS in my favorite format.

There is, however, a small but useful window of time when I will be able to use all my cards in Survival Mode without risking cooldown for an extended period of time: the last day of the season.

In fact the cooldown of cards used in survival mode is reset at the beginning of each season.

Therefore my strategy during the last day of the season will be this:

  • on the last day of the season I will consume the entire energy bar in Modern Format.

  • a few hours before the end of the season I will enable all my cards to Survival Mode

  • I will play in Survival Mode with all my cards.
  • at the start of the new season I will disable from Survival Mode the cards I use in Modern Format via a few clicks thanks to the useful Create Custom Set feature.

Durante la stagione 154, il 27 febbraio 2025, è stata introdotta una nuova modalità di gioco di tipo Ranked: il Survival Mode.

Grazie all'aggiunta del Survival Mode su Splinteralnds ci sono tre modalità di gioco di tipo Ranked a cui è possibile giocare:

  • Wild Format: è possibile utilizzare le carte di tutti i set, è necessario pagare il Wild Pass ogni stagione, multi-accounts, bots e battle helpers sono consentiti
  • Modern Format: è possibile utilizzare solo le carte degli ultimi due set rilasciati in ordine temporale, il multi-accounts è consentito ma bots e battle helpers sono vietati
  • Survival Mode: è possibile utilizzare le carte di tutti i set, multi-accounts, bots e battle helpers sono consentiti

Considero molto positivamente la recente introduzione del Survival Mode perchè:

  • più modalità di gioco = più possibilità di divertimento
  • il Survival Mode ha creato nuovi casi d'uso per le carte e in particolare ha creato un interesse ad accumulare più copie di una stessa carta perchè nel Survival Mode le carte morte in battaglia entrano in un periodo di cooldown e non possono essere utilizzate nelle altre modalità di gioco durante il periodo di cooldown.

Avrei preferito il divieto di utilizzo dei bots nel Survival Mode ma la mia preferenza è ovviamente personale e quindi non condivisibile.

Durante la prima stagione del Survival Mode ho giocato solo 48 battaglie.
Mi sono divertito a giocare nel Survival Mode ma i miei risultati di gioco non sono stati esaltanti dal punto di vista del win rate e dal punto di vista delle ricompense ricevute.

Infatti ho terminato la mia prima stagione nel Survival Mode nella lega Bronze III con un rating = 260 e il mio rank è stato 513°.

In questa stagione non ho ancora giocato nel Survival Mode perchè ho avuto molti impegni di lavoro e molti impegni familiari e ho utilizzato il mio poco tempo libero dando la priorità alla mia attività di gioco nel Modern Format che è il mio formato preferito perchè mi piace giocare manualmente solo contro giocatori umani come me e il Modern Format è l'unico formato di tipo ranked in cui l'uso dei bots e l'uso dei battle helpers è vietato.

In questo post condivido la mia attività di gioco giornaliera nel Survival Mode e anche la mia strategia di gioco in questo formato che sarà molto focalizzata sul giocare l'ultimo giorno della stagione in corso.

Prima di iniziare la mia sessione di gioco giornaliero nel Survival Mode il mio punto di partenza era:

  • Battles: 0
  • Wins: 0
  • Rating: 260
  • Tier: Bronze III
  • Avaiable Cards: 1151
  • Depleted Cards: 0
  • SPS staked: 133199 - 51000 (delegated) = 82199

Nella mia prima battaglia ho incontrato un giocatore con un Power = 38160.

Potevo iniziare la mia sessione di gioco con una vittoria ma mi sono dovuto allontanare dal pc proprio nella fase di creazione del team e quando sono tornato al pc avevo solo 10 secondi disponibili e non ho fatto in tempo a selezionare altri due mostri e ho giocato con solo 4 carte invece di sei.

Prima battaglia, prima sconfitta e 5 carte in cooldown :(

Nella seconda battaglia ho incontrato un altro giocatore con un Power non molto alto e che ha giocato solo due battaglie nel Survival Mode usando principalmente carte di livello 1.

In questo caso la differenza del livello delle mie carte rispetto alle carte del mio avversario ha fatto la differenza e ho vinto la battaglia.

Nella terza battaglia ho incontrato un giocatore con un Power molto alto ma dopo aver visto le carte che ha utilizzato nelle sue ultime battaglie ho scelto di giocarmela invece di optare per utilizzare 1 evocatore debole e 1 carta debole.

Nella mia sessione odierna nel Survival Mode ho giocato in totale 13 battaglie.

Su 13 battaglie ho vinto 6 battaglie e il mio win rate è migliorato rispetto al win rate che ho ottenuto nella precedente stagione in questo nuovo formato: +10.74%

Anche i miei guadagni in SPS per battaglia vinta sono aumentati rispetto alla stagione precedente ma sono ancora molto inferiori al guadagno per vittoria che ottengo giocando nella lega Diamond I nel Modern Format:

  • la mia ultima battaglia vinta nel Survival Mode: 0.304 SPS
  • la mia ultima battaglia vinta nel Modern Format: 7.72 SPS

A partire da questa stagione ho iniziato a tenere traccia dei guadagni in SPS che ottengo giocando nel Survival Mode.

Questi dati saranno importanti per me per valutare in futuro se continuare a giocare nel Survival Mode o se sarà meglio mettere nel mercato del noleggio le carte che uso nel Survival Mode.

Il mio punto debole nel Survival Mode è che ho poche carte evocatore che limitano il numero di battaglie che posso giocare in questo formato.
Inoltre nel Survival Mode non posso/non voglio utilizzare le carte che uso nel Modern Format perchè se lo facessi rischierei il cooldown per le carte che utilizzo nel Modern Format e peggiorerei i miei risultati di gioco e anche il mio guadagno stagionale in SPS nel mio formato preferito.

C'è però una piccola ma utile finestra temporale in cui potrò utilizzare tutte le mie carte nel Survival Mode senza rischiare il cooldown per un periodo di tempo lungo: l'ultimo giorno della stagione.

Infatti il Cooldown delle carte utilizzate nel survival mode viene resettato ad ogni inizio di stagione.

Per questo motivo la mia strategia durante l'ultimo giorno della stagione sarà questa:

  • l'ultimo giorno della stagione consumerò tutta la barra dell'energia nel Modern Format

  • poche ore prima della fine della stagione abiliterò tutte le mie carte al Survival Mode

  • giocherò nel Survival Mode con tutte le mie carte
  • all'inizio della nuova stagione disabiliterò dal Survival Mode le carte che uso nel Modern Format tramite pochi click grazie all'utile funzionalità Create Custom Set.

Non sapevo che il cooldown delle carte fosse resettato al termine della stagione. In effetti è una buona strategia dedicare l'ultimo giorno solo al Survival Mode. Grazie 🙃

That is a great strategy! The reason I've been avoiding survival mode is the cool down period making it hard to play other modes. If they reset it makes perfect sense to play all your cards in the last few hours of the season and then get an automatic reset. I'm going to do the same! Thanks for the great idea!

I noticed that the cooldown reset is information that has been missed by many and that is why I decided to write this post and judging from your comment and the others I received I am glad I was helpful ;)

Ottima strategia quella di dedicarsi l'ultimo giorno alla Survival, però sono quasi sicuro che lo staff cambierà questa cosa, appena si accorge che molti giocano solo l'ultima giornata della season, a parte forse i Bot che fanno i loro calcoli a parte.

Non penso lo modificheranno perchè resettare il cooldown a fine stagione ha utilità soprattutto per semplificare il mercato del noleggio ma in un modo o nell'altro fin quando ci sarà il reset giocare nel Survival a fine stagione potrebbe essere una buona mossa per guadagnare qualche SPS in più ;)

Durerà perchè il reset del cooldown a fine stagione non è un bug ma una decisione del team di Splinterlands. ;)

Il mio pensiero andava in parte al fatto che così però rischiano che tanti giochino solo gli ultimissimi giorni della stagione, sfruttando la modalità solo come un modo per fare qualche SPS extra (non che ci sia niente di male, ma così a lungo andare chi vuole giocarci più spesso correrà il rischio di non trovare giocatori se non a 2-3 giorni dalla fine della stagione).

Survival mode sounds rough at the lower leagues. 2 SPS for a session is very bad. Does the ranking set you back to zero every single round?

Ranking in Survival Mode works identically to ranking in Wild and Modern Format.
The lowest starting point is the Bronze III league, which has a rating = 260
