Fledgling: Part 88

Greetings all!

Here is a short update before things really start getting interesting! Enjoy it!

The rift slammed shut, and the individual raised a finger, as if telling off a naughty child. The power in the gesture made the entire room fall into silence and made Rubar sit down. The figure was clad in clothes best suited to desert environments, including a cowl which covered the individual’s face.

Kay turned her head and looked the figure up and down before sarcastically saying, “I was wondering when you were going to show up again. Coming to lock me up again?”

“You were taking too long.”

“She locked me away in her head. I could do nothing!”

“And you being out currently is causing way too many problems. I gave you a plan!”

“Yeah, and I was shut out of existing. Remember? We had a deal. What happened to that? You were to help me if she resisted. You’re late.”

Bolx slowly got up and turned to face the newcomer. He wasn’t sure that he could do anything after everything that happened, but he was at least going to get answers.

“You can calm down, General.” Said the voice from within the cowl. “She is fine, but I am tired of waiting for her to make certain decisions. I’m forcing my hand. Which may make or break our timeline. Oh well, sink or swim.”

General.

Like his father, Bolx was not fond of having his title used as a nickname. Saita had just started doing it, something she had likely picked up from his mother and father’s interactions. The infliction from the stranger was exactly the same way that she would say it.

“This one’s smart. He’s almost figured it out. Might as well reveal yourself.” Said Kay sarcastically.”

The figure signed and pulled back the sand-coloured cowl. The room fell silent as the face was revealed.

“Another one?” asked Red-Eye as he tilted his head in surprise.

“I’d have another smell. This isn’t another one. This one, you’ve all met.” Kay got to her feet painfully and made an elaborate, although stiff, bow. “This is Saita, or at least what Saita will grow into…in a couple of centuries. And the reason I am alive the way I am.”

“Guilty, but it was for a reason.” Her eyes flicked to Fledge. “I wasn’t sure you would have met this lot by now.”

Fledge knew this form of Saita. This was the one that everyone referred to as the Balance Fell Dragon. The true opposite of the Chaos Fell Dragon that Kay had been. He was sure that she was long gone, either resting or dead, soon to be replaced by who and what the current Saita was.

“Didn’t think you two would be able to stomach each other.” Said the Balance Fell Dragon, indicating between Kay and Fledge. “Surprise, surprise.”

Finding his voice at last, Bolx asked. “Where is Saita?”

“She’s fine. She’s in no danger.” The older Saita looked up with a single eye to the ceiling. “Assuming she makes it in time.”

“Makes it in time?” queried Kay. “You do realise if she doesn’t get the big one and the red one home, everything will change.”

She shrugged. “She has to learn, as I did. I was a quicker study, but then again, we spoke. You, on the other hand, spoke too soon, scared the crap out of her, and she locked you up. Yes, I know, I’ve been following. The body, well, that I thought came later. Guess even in my age I can forget.”

Fledge, now having learned that jumping to conclusions brought nothing good, asked the one question that should have been asked.

“When is Saita?”

The Balance Fell Dragon only smiled.

From here it's going to get a little strange. You know, more than usual.
