Fledgling: Part 69
Greetings all
Here is your next update. Kay did not do well in her fight, as Saita suspected.
Kay had hoped that she had given the rest of the group enough time to save Bolx and Aidan. She had tried to fight against Jackal, but with the planet being depleted of any reachable life force and the creature itself not having much or any she could steal, the fight was short-lived.
She wasn’t ashamed of the outcome. It was inevitable, and she had hoped that she had given Saita enough time. Lying in the snow, exhausted and in pain from the multiple bites and claw injuries, she had hoped that would be the end of it. The Wolven had two choices: Kill her or leave her.
He shocked her by going with a third option. He wrapped a clawed hand around her face and dragged her with him while muttering incoherently under his breath about chains. Her body jarred painfully as the creature continued to walk on all fours, sinking her body into the snow as it moved.
She could try to fight what was happening, but she also knew that this creature was insane and likely would do something just as insane if she tried anything.
Is this really so bad?
The thought surprised her.
You wanted to die anyway. It’s your own fault, really. Trusting people. Really? You know where that got you last time.
The voice was right on both accounts. She had wanted to die. She could have done so much as a Dragon if she had been allowed to live. But she had been marked as crazed and a danger to all. She had seen Saita as the perfect weapon to her end. She was brimming with power. Enough to Fuel Kay and make it seem like she really was defending her position as a Dragon. A single slip would have been enough to end everything, and Saita was out for blood.
But there had been too much interference, and then she arrived. Throwing a spanner in the works. She had trusted her. Believed her. And what had that gotten her? A repeat that had been her sad and pathetic life. She had trusted like this once before, and it was the reason that she had become a Champion and then later a Dragon.
Jackal stopped, and one side of her face was ground into the snow. She was cold, and pain was radiating from her injuries. She realised that she didn’t need to fight. She could just let go and be done. What was the point of hanging around?
She tried to ignore that Red-Eye and Bolx needed her. Why should she stick her neck out for them any more than she already had? All that ever did was cause more problems for her. It wasn’t worth trusting anyone.
Then Jackal reared, and she was pulled from his grasp. She was surprised. A powerful jaw bunched her clothing around her back, and she was pulled away. With what little strength she had left, she looked up to see Saita was holding Jackal back with nothing but pure strength. Her thumbs were digging into his shoulder joints while energy blades had sunk into his back.
“Ha, she learnt that from me.” She coughed.
Then, she lost sight of the fight as she was thrown into the air. She hit something solid, and she groaned in pain.
“Heal her.” Barked Red-Eye as he rushed to return to Saita.
“What the hell?”
Kay recognised that voice. She looked up and couldn't help but smile at Bolx’s confused face. He had never seen her as a separate entity, and now he literally had her in his arms. She could only imagine the shock at seeing someone who was basically his wife’s twin.
“Yo!” she greeted. “I think I can stand. You can put me down.”
Shocked, Bolx did exactly that. Kay was woozy but managed to straighten her legs under her.
“Is that fucker getting bigger?” she asked.
Bolx, snapping out of his surprise said. “Yes, it’s why we need to get rid of the bodies. Are you up to doing that?”
“I would be useless. I have next to no energy left to do anything.” Kay said as she clamped a wound around her middle.
Fledge stepped forward and presented his arm. He didn’t need to say anything, the message was clear. Kay gripped it tightly and took enough for what she needed to do. Once done, she released him, and Fledge gave her a single nod. He knew, for he was exactly the same as her. She knew then. It was his eyes that had given him away the first time that she had seen him, but now that she had had a taste of his life force, she knew.
Bringing white-hot energy to her hands, she sealed as many of her leaking wounds as possible before following Bolx’s lead in destroying what bodies they could. But her mind was jumbled, and her emotions were all over the show. She wasn’t supposed to feel, it was easier not to feel.
Should be fun to see Saita and Red-Eye as a united front after everything that happened in their past.
