Fledgling: Part 59

Hi Readers

I had a little more free time this week and was to make a few plans for where the story will be going.

Kay is going to play a larger role, especially with more of her time and her relationship with Bolx being explained. I hope you all continue to follow the story with me!

“Oh no! First, you answer my question.” She rounded on him. “I thought the whole reason for you taking our energy was so that you could find us more easily. Why did it take you so long to find us?”

Fledge froze for a moment and muttered under his breath. Rubar’s ears perked up.

“Well?”

“I panicked.” Admitted Fledge. “I didn’t have time to memorise your energy signature. I’m sorry.”

While it had been weeks ago, Saita remembered the flight they had taken away from the Mad Pack. Fledge was likely telling the truth. She sighed, annoyed that she had allowed her feelings to get the better of her.

“Shareik pulled her from me. We were in a situation where Edzeeker of the time we were in was baiting her. She went for him, and I couldn’t…” she snorted. “No, let me be truthful, I didn’t want to stop her. As far as I can tell, her body is organic and is pretty much what I remember her being in the final fight.”

“That means trouble.” Sighed Fledge. “She is madness…”

“No.” said Saita softly as she watched Red-Eye roll over and pin Kay. They were both giggling like children. “She’s not madness. At least not like she was back then.”

“Then what the hell is she!” roared Fledge, catching Saita completely off guard.

This seemed to make the Wolven and Fell Dragon stop with their roughhousing and look up at Fledge. Red-Eye seemed annoyed that his reunion had been interrupted, but Kay had a different look on her face. There was a hint of disgust and fear, but a whole lot more confusion.

She got to her feet and made her way toward the young man. Being almost as tall as Saita, she looked down at the man and took the time to memorise his features.

“What?” he growled as he looked her in her blue eye.

“Hmm, so this is what Fledge looks like.” She muttered. “Funny, he looks so familiar.”

“Woah, now hold on!” Saita looked at Kay. “You’ve met Fledge.”

“No, you met Fledge. While I was trapped in your mind, I didn’t have access to your senses, not like you do. I would get a sense of what you thought of people when you heard them or saw them. Now that I have my own senses, I can see, hear, and feel for myself. And this dude is holding back a hell of a lot more than what he’s willing to show. He doesn’t trust you, much less like you. So damn familiar.” She then proceeded to point at Fledge in the chest. “I know you. I just don’t know from where.”

She grunted and returned her attention to Red-Eye.

“Red-Eye, I have missed you!”

“Mistress! No, not Mistress! Kay! Kay, Kay, is that really you?” The Wolven was all fours, a tail swishing back and forth like he was some kind of trained dog.

“I have no idea what is going on now.” Saita shrugged her shoulders.

“Before the voices invaded her, she was like this. My friend. The one I’d share everything with, even when her control was too strong. She hasn’t been like this since before her first Champion challenged her.”

“Voices?” asked Fledge, now seeming to have calmed somewhat.

Turned and lifted her long hair to show the scar that wrapped around the back of her neck.

“When I was a Champion, I had a controller as part of my System. The cage converted Champions to Dragons, but it was flawed somehow. While trapping the Champion, the multiple Dragons before them would meld with the new Dragon. They are the voices.” Kay released her hair. “They made it difficult to keep track of my own thoughts sometimes. It was so easy to just go with the flow sometimes and let the voices take over.”

Kay then shuddered before a smile spread across her lips, “But they are gone now, and I am free. Just as was promised to me.”

All the way back in Fell Dragon, Red-Eye commented on how he loved and hated the Fell Dragon. He has finally been reunited with the version of Kay that was truly his friend, and they are like a bunch of toddlers.
