Fledgling: Part 58
Greeting Readers!
Finally got time to write again, so here is a small piece for all of you to read. The party is back together, but with a dangerous addition.
Also, those who were asking, Valentino has made a wonderful recovery. He is back to his loveable self and playing with his brothers.
Silence.
There was no movement of air or energy. Kay had hoped for something a little more exciting, but there was nothing. She was sure that she had used enough energy, but now wasn’t sure. She scratched at her face with irritation. She hated waiting.
She stomped back to the corpse and tried to place it. Even without a head, she had had other ways to identify her Wolven. This wasn’t one of hers, she was sure of it. However, she couldn’t be sure. It had been some time, and she was gripped with near madness in the last few days of her freedom.
“You think he sensed you?” asked Saita.
Kay didn’t answer. She didn’t have an answer, and she didn’t like to guess., She shrugged her shoulders, unsure if Saita was watching her.
More silence. Kay was comfortable in it, Saita was not.
“I have so many questions.”
Kay shrugged once more, inviting them but not truly caring.
“You and Bolx…”
Kay rolled her eye and snapped, “We were friends.”
“But how?”
The Dragon turned around, ready for an uncomfortable conversation that was going to cloud Saita’s mind if she didn’t have answers soon. Kay knew they needed each other. Bolx had said that much, but it was difficult for the old Fell Dragon. Saita had gotten everything she had wanted in life, while Kay had been crushed and ground under multiple heels.
She opened her mouth to say something but noticed the glimmer behind Saita. She gripped the woman’s shirt and pulled her towards her. Saita must have sensed it too because with a twist, she stood beside Kay.
A second later, a set of claws pulled the glimmer apart, and a black-furred face pushed its way through the tear. Kay didn’t ever wait. She tackled the Wolven with a cry of “Red-Eye!”
She disappeared into the time corridors and Saita was left standing alone in the courtyard looking mildly amused. It took Rubar pushing his face through the tear for her to turn and wave the guards away. They were done with this time, and she needed to go. She hated that she would have to leave Meedus, but him getting stuck here was her fault and the only way to fix it was to leave him here to live out the rest of his days.
She needed to return to her quest. She needed to save her son and partner. She reached for the white Wolven’s paw as he reached for her. It was time to return to her mission. The Wolven looked exhausted and muttered.
“It has been too long, Saita. You look better than when we last saw you.”
She looked at his arm and saw the injury was yet to heal. It just reminded her that time flowed strangely once outside of the time corridors.
“It would seem that we have been separated for several weeks.”
“Days.” Said the Wolven.
“Not to us.” She tapped her new foot against the floor below her as the tear behind her closed. “I even had a proper leg added. It’ll be nice not to suffer from pain when it starts to get cold.”
Her vision was then drawn to the dark Wolven, who was lying on his back in shock with his previous mistress straddling his chest with her arms wrapped around his neck.
“Are you going to explain this?” asked Rubar.
“I wish I could give you an answer that made sense.”
“What answer can you give me?”
“Not a good one.” Said Fledge as he crossed his arms. “That’s the Fell Dragon before Saita.”
Rubar’s head snapped to look at Red-Eye, who seemed to be half-whining, “That’s Kay?”
Saita gave the Wolven a side-eye, not sure when he learned of the name she preferred, but let it go. She nodded her head.
Fledge grumbled angrily under his breath and walked away to kick at a wall. The last thing he wanted was for this Fell Dragon to be free. Now what. She was pure madness. How were they going to travel with something that was essentially a rabid beast?
He turned back to Saita and asked in a strained voice. “How did this happen? Explain in detail.”
Now, there are several directions we can go from here. So, depending on what happens this week will determine which part of the story Iw ant to tackle next.
