Fledgling: Part 52
Greeting Readers
Just a reminder that we will be delving into Dragon Kay's life. We touched on the abuse she suffered from her father, but now we're going to look at how she ended up being the Dragon. It's gonna be a wild ride, so a heads up to those who are a little sensitive.
Enjoy the update!
Shareik had seen the leashed Dragon for himself. The amount of raw power was far beyond what other Dragons had had before her. She had been so similar to the one that held her leash that Shareik wasn’t sure where the one ended and where the other began. However, there were differences, and it was with these differences that he was able to find her.
He found the correct time, but he feared he was too late when he couldn’t find the energy he had been following. Despite the panic that he felt, he calmed himself. Was he too early? Too late? No, there was a faint trace of her.
He followed it, traveling through the time corridors to where a minuscule amount of energy remained. He stumbled across a decrepit house amongst large fields of nothing but mud. He made his way into the home and stopped when he saw the shrivelled corpse of what had once been a Kai raider. It had been dead for some time.
Ignoring the gruesome discovery, his senses were distracted by the smell of decay and blood. Leaving the kitchen, he was greeted by hunks of meat that lay strewn across the hallway. There was no way to tell what the fetid meat had belonged to once. All around him were deep claw marks in the wall, ceiling, and floor, as if some rabid beast had ripped into them trying to get to its prey.
A shuffling sound caught his attention, and Shareik found himself walking into what had once been a lounge of some sort. Tables and chairs were strewn about, and several bloated corpses were lying in the room. Shareik felt his heart skip a beat when he saw the body of a small child lying close by. It was lying in a fetal position, hands clamped around a wound that had bled for some time, going by the blood stain that had spread out around the body.
Shareik was too late. He had been so sure that she had been the leashed Fell Dragon, but there was no way that was possible if she lay dead amongst the carnage caused by the raiders. His heart broke for the child, not having an opportunity to enjoy life. He came to kneel next to her. The least he could do was offer a few burial rights and return her to the soil, but then her foot moved, producing the shuffling sound he had heard earlier.
Shareik placed a hand on her side and felt the faint breaths she was taking. She was alive but barely so. The Heavenly wasn’t sure what to do. He hadn’t travelled to this time before. It wasn’t one of his assigned times; he wasn’t even sure if it had been assigned to anyone, as there seemed to be no sense of a current Fell Dragon.
He wasn’t a healer, and there was very little he could do to heal a wound that was clearly several days old and infected by the smell emanating from her. Then, there was a noise outside the room. A gasp of shock and then a thundering of feet.
Shareik looked up in time to see several humans entering the room with a look of shock on their faces. They took one look at his robes and seemed to realise what he was. This time clearly did have a Heavenly looking after it, but Shareik had no idea who it could be.
Raising to his feet, her said in the most authoritative voice he could.
“Take this child to the hospital immediately and take me to your rulers.”
I wish she were safe now, but sadly, she's not.

I need to take a break from life and catch up on reading your work. What happened to the good old days where they used to banish women to seaside cottages with a generous supply of laudanum?
