Fledgling: Part 49
Hi All
Not too much happening this side of the world, but such it is. More time to work on other projects.
Enjoy today's update.
Kay woke up with a throbbing headache. She was lying with her back against the pillows, practically freezing. She rubbed at her head and sat up, unsure of what the time was, as the clouds beyond the window were thick and threatening with more rain.
Parched, she got to her feet and went to the bathroom that was off to one side of the room. She washed her face and looked into the mirror. Her single blue eye was staring back at her from her face. And it was her face. The thick red scar wrapped around her face and neck, removing most of what had been her right eye socket.
“God damn I hate mirrors.” She looked away.
She wanted to put her fist through the mirror but the apple from yesterday had left a welt that was sensitive. She didn’t want to experience her hand cut up, especially since she had already bitten into it. She ran a finger over the welt. Pain. It was nothing new to her. It had just been a very long time since she had experienced it. She wondered what else this body could do.
She had looked over her top half. It looked like her physical body. The same one that had faced Saita all those decades ago. She wondered if Shareik had created her from memory or if there was truly something left of her within Saita. She grumbled under her breath.
She heard a knock at the door of the room and immediately she felt her body respond. It was too ingrained in her DNA. Fight or flight, and it had been a very long time since she felt the urge to flee.
Stepping from the bathroom, she was greeted by the door swinging open and Saita stepping in. They both stared at each other. Saita seemed exhausted and Kay half-naked.
“Take a picture. It’ll last longer.” Snapped Kay, not bothering to cover up.
Saita dropped her eyes, unsure of how to handle everything. Her last true interaction with Kay had been during a time of mourning and pain. There were so many negative emotions surrounding the Fell Dragon, Saita didn’t know what to say or what to do.
“Oh come on! You had how many children with Bolx? You can’t be a prude. We practically have the same body type.”
“Could you just shush for a minute?” hissed Saita.
“Did you just shush me like I’m a child?” Kay gave an indignant huff.
“It was one thing to know you were in my head. It’s quite another having you stand here in front of me.”
“Trust me, it’s no picnic for me either. Where have you been?”
“I don’t need to answer to you.”
Kay could feel the corners of her lips turn up. This was amusing. This was highly amusing. She had been dead, confined, and now she was alive again. She was also arguing with the creature that was made to kill her. She couldn’t help but wonder how many other Dragons before her had the opportunity to converse with the Champions who stared them down.
She couldn’t help the fantasy that played out in her head. Fantasies were one of the few things that helped her cling to some semblance of sanity during her many years of incarceration.
Chuckling to herself. She made her way over to the bed, picked up her crumbled shirt, and pulled it over her head. She then flopped down on the bed, belly first. She then propped her chin in her cupped hands, before resting her elbows on the mattress and bending her knees to raise her feet.
“Are we going to have a girlie pow wow now?”
Just picturing this scene in my head after everything the Dragon has done still makes me giggle uncontrollably.
