Fledgling: Part 124

Greetings Reader

It would seem that I have my rhythm back at last! Getting my writing in, posting on time, things are good.
Enjoy the update!

Saita was carefully considering what she would say to the twins when she saw them again as she set foot on the Saith planet back in her own time. She took a deep breath, her body already aching from the massive amount of energy she was using by travelling this way without the aid of a Wolven.

After Bolx’s death, she hadn’t really come to the Saith planet. There was no need to. While she had descendants on the planet, it hurt too much to come back here. It had hurt too much to be anywhere, and it had become easier to be a recluse.

While some parts of the planet had changed, the feel, the energy was still the same. The Saith were stuck in their ways, and it felt a little like she was coming home after being away for so long. Despite sadness in her chest, she couldn’t help but smile a little.

“We were wondering when you would figure it out.”

Saita turned her head to catch Martin in her peripheral vision. She turned and not only found him and a robust female Saith with a dark blonde tail wrapped around her waist, while her significantly lighter hair contained several thin plaits throughout the ponytail. There was a thin circlet of black metal resting on her brow. Saita smiled. She knew this bloodline well. The stunning blue eyes were a genetic trait they all shared. Even her own children inherited it through Bolx.

She bowed.

The woman snorted before saying. “You literally birthed my great-grandmother. You don’t need to bow to me.”

Saita was somewhat surprised to hear Saasha’s voice coming from the woman’s mouth. While the family resemblance was there, this woman’s face was far squarer than Saasha’s had been. Hearing the voice again after centuries sent a slight shiver up her spine and almost brought a tear to her remaining eye.

“And what name did you inherit?” asked Saita as she came to stand up.
The woman made an absent-minded wave in the air and said, “Saasha, of course. I only use it for matters of duty. I prefer to be called Arra. A nickname from my middle name.”

“Aurus?”

“Yes.” The woman grinned.

“Saasha’s mother’s name. I didn’t even know that it was in circulation.”

“My great-grandmother insisted, and here we are. Could have been named after Silens, but my father said my lungs powered my voice too much, so that name never would have worked.” The woman laughed, sounding so much like Baks. Saita was pleased to see the strong family line coming through.

She then turned her attention to Martin. He looked happy, well, and had even started growing his hair out. At this point, it was just long enough to bind together.

“You are looking well.”

“I am. I was getting concerned that you would have forgotten about us. It’s been a while.”

“A while?”

“It’s been about ten years.”

“How far back did she take you? I thought you were going to be placed in my current timeline.”

“Do you even have a current timeline when you’re a time traveller?” asked Arra.

Saita couldn’t help but chuckle. That was a good question.

“She called it wiggle room. Gave us the time we needed.” Said Martin, not elaborating on what he meant.

“Where is your sister?”

“Somewhat indisposed.” Said Arra. “Told me…yes, told me, to wait here with her brother.”

“Aren’t you queen?”

“You think that matters to Maxine?” laughed Martin.

“I don’t suppose so, no.” Saita chuckled.

“Come, we can’t dally. Let us get the supplies so the twins can come to us in one piece.” Said Arra as she turned toward the castle.

“How did you know I would appear here today?” asked Saita as she fell in line with the queen and Martin.

“You mentioned it 10 years ago.” Said Martin.

Saita made a disgusted snort and muttered under her breath, “She is making so much more work for me.”

“She said that you would say that too.” Chuckled the queen.

A deep sigh escaped Saita. Just how much interfering had she done to time in general? Trying to keep track of what she knew and had been asked was tough enough; it was made drastically more complicated by her older self leaving cryptic messages that she had to not only follow but remember to give clues to herself to follow the path she had set out on.

Only a little longer, and we will be back with Kay, and it is a doozy!
