Fledgling: Part 120

Greeting Readers
Yet another late update! So sorry. I hope you enjoy the update. Shareik's hubris is starting to show.

Shareik was slowly starting to put things together. He now understood his role and accepted it. He was going to be the father of the current Champion. He was going to mould her into what was needed, and it was going to work. He just knew it.
That said, he still wasn’t sure how to unravel the timelines. The abused child and the taken child. One that now went by the name Kay and the other, by Saita. He stood back and watched for now. He needed to find the root of Saita. Needed to know how she was taken by Edzeeker to do the experiments that the Dekai had developed.
He didn’t want to reach out to Edzeeker yet. He had seen a future form of himself interacting with him several times, and he couldn’t risk running into himself. He wasn’t sure if that would jeopardise what he was planning or not, but he wasn’t willing to risk it just yet.
So, he watched, trying to trace Saita’s origin. He had thought to go to the planet on which he had found Kay, but the decrepit house in which he had found Kay half-dead was gone. People didn’t want to talk about what had happened there, and it took a long time for Shareik to find answers.
Matta, having a certain way with people, was the one who eventually managed to get the story from the populace. A man and woman were murdered, their young daughter taken. Other than that, nothing.
Matta hadn’t asked why Shareik was so curious about this family. He had long learned that it was best to remain silent and observe. It was a skill that few youngsters had, and it was one that Shareik knew he would manipulate when he needed it.
However, despite Matta’s skills, all other information about what happened was unknown. There were many theories, yes, but there was no proof. No tracks other than a spacecraft had been in the area before the deaths. And even then, it wasn’t a ship that was tracked or even noticed by those who could have tracked it. This timeline was a dead end for now. Or was it?
Edzeeker looked over the half-ruined garden, with a few strawberry plants still showing red fruits. She would have been much younger than when Kay was taken, significantly so. Maybe four, five, he wasn’t sure. The thought was sickening. Why would she be taken so young?
While Matta had been distracted by asking questions of the inhabitants, Shareik used his unique skill to look further into the past. He needed to be careful. Pulling this amount of energy could cause the Dragon to stir, and he wanted to avoid waking it.
He caught glimpses of Edzeeker and the fight that had occurred. It had been a terrifying thought he had had, and now it had been confirmed. But why so young? He had been clear with the General of Kay’s time, that under no circumstances should they do anything to Kay until she was at least sixteen years old. Why would Edzeeker come for Saita at such a young age? How had he even found her?
Shareik felt the colour drain from his face. He had told Edzeeker. Not yet, but he would. But why? Why would he do that? Why would he allow a child to be taken when she had had loving parents? Something must have gone terribly wrong with Kay. What other reason would he have to allow Edzeeker to take Saita so young?
The last time he had looked in on Kay, the girl was starting to thrive on the streets. She had met several older children, and they had formed a gang of some sort. The wounds of her childhood were starting to fade. What could have gone wrong?
While he was pondering the possibilities, Matta returned to his side and shrugged, indicating that there was nothing more he could do here. This was a dead end, for now. As far as he knew.
“Mortals have always been mindless beasts that only think of their direct desires. It is highly likely that one of the races that believes slavery is their right killed the parents and took the child. I still don’t understand your fascination with the thing.”
“Saita. She has a name. And if you want to become a better Heavenly, then you will need to learn to understand the mortals you look down on.”
Matta rolled his eyes. Shareik couldn’t help but chuckle. He was so young. He would learn soon enough.
“Are we done with your mission?” asked Matta.
“You are. You will return to the corridors for now. I have a stop I need to make with the Elders.”

We will be continuing this storyline for a little. It's going to end up showing the actual strength Kay developed in the background. See you all next week!
