Fledgling: Part 116

Greeting Readers
Super late this week, but bear with me. I had to have the lenses of my glasses replaced. Seeing as I spend hours in front of a pc teaching during the day, my eyes couldn't cope with writing on top of that.
But, I got my new glasses today, so you all get an update today and one on Tuesday! I hope the wait was worth it!

Despite her exhausted state, she closed her eye and tried to pinpoint where Martin was. While she couldn’t sense Kay, their energy being far too similar, she could tell that Red-Eye was getting close to the place where Martin had tried to hide himself.
Saita hissed under her breath. She had hoped that the boy would have had enough sense to leave this place. However, something must have prevented him from doing that. She would have no choice but to try to get to him with teleportation, but it would be a close call.
Eye still closed, she reached forward to where his energy was and willed her form to follow. She wouldn’t have much time, but she had to get to the boy.
She felt the flow of her form and then felt him. She grabbed him and immediately reached out to where his sister was. A sharp pain tore through her right shoulder, almost breaking her concentration, but she bit down hard on her back molars before dragging herself and Martin from the room and to where Maxine was hidden away.
Saita grunted painfully as she released Martin, and she sank to her knees as her left hand clutched at her shoulder.
“I thought I was a dead man.” She heard Martin say.
Saita was shocked to find blood trickling down her arm and soaking into her sleeve. Had she caught herself on something?
“Fuck!” Martin swore. “The beast was about to take my head when you grabbed me. Must have clipped you.”
Martin clamped both his hands over her shoulder and pressed down hard. Saita hadn’t expected it and didn’t have her mother’s trusted technique to numb the pain. She groaned audibly with her mind racing.
Had Kay or Red-Eye seen her face? Would Red-Eye recognise her blood? Had this affected the timeline?
“Breathe.” Hissed Martin. “I can’t have two people unconscious on me.”
Saita gulped a lungful of air, releasing it slowly through pursed lips, before taking another large breath. She concentrated on numbing the pain as Martin clamped the wound tighter in order to get it to stop bleeding.
“Can’t stay here. They can’t pick up my scent.” Muttered Saita.
“I need to control the bleeding.”
“Cauterise it.”
“But the damage…”
“We have to go.”
Martin looked around in a panic for something for Saita to bite down on.
“I can control…”
“I know that technique. It won’t help for this.” He released her long enough to reach over to where his sister lay and pulled her belt from her pants.
Blood-smeared, the belt was handed over to Saita, who sighed before setting it between her teeth.
Not the first time I have tasted my own blood.
She had just enough time to bite down when Martin started the procedure. He had been right. The pain pushed her mental strength, and her marks rose to the surface of her skin unbidden. She had tears running down her face by the time he was done.
“This won’t hold for long. You need to give me more time.”
“I need to get us out of here.” Saita rose to her feet shakily. “Our scent needs to disappear.”
“You are in no state…”
Saita looked at the swirls of black on the back of her hand. While she was exhausted, these marks told her that she had more than enough power to do what she needed.
“Grab your sister.”
“Are you even listening to me?” Martin reached out to pull his sister closer.
“I will listen to everything you have to say later, but for now, we need to go.” Saita gripped his shoulder and concentrated on the time corridors.
Unlike Red-Eye and the rest of his Wolven kind, she didn’t need to find a weakened wall to get them into the corridors. She just needed to feel where the corridor was.
“Things are going to get a little weird from here. Bear with me.” She said with a pained grin as she looked Martin in the eyes.

Next week, we are switching back to Kay for a bit.
