Fledgling: Part 114

Greeting Readers
It's back to work, and it's starting to get busy! I am also having busy weekends, which is cutting into my writing, so some updates may be a little shorter than usual.
Anyway, here is today's update! Saita is trying her best to get time on track, but could she be making everything worse? I guess we will see.

Saita would have wanted more time to get to know what was happening in the time she found herself. It looked the same as hers, but it felt wrong. She couldn’t sense the Dekai or the Kai, and even the humans were at reduced numbers. The first thought she had was that she was in the wrong place, but then she felt the twins’ lifeforces along with Brucel’s. As she had only ever met the tyrant Brucel, she was sure that this was the right place. But was it the right time?
She needed more time, more information, but she wasn’t granted that when she felt the stirring. It was an odd feeling. It was similar to how she knew when Kay was awake, which in essence was what she was feeling.
Kay, or more likely, Red-Eye, was close, and Saita needed to avoid meeting either of them. Knowing that her influence on this time was going to happen one way or another, she decided to push ahead with her plan.
Find the twins and warn them.
Avoiding the waking Wolven was a tough task, but she had long ago learned to suppress her life force, so she managed to avoid most of them as she teleported to the Saith home world. She knew she had to be close to the castle but not too close, as Red-Eye and the Fell Dragon would be there now, slaughtering Brucel’s family while he was off somewhere else, facing the monsters that had suddenly descended upon his world.
Even in the panic of battle that swirled around her, she remained calm. This needed to go right, or all the work that had been put into getting her to this point would have been nothing but a waste.
Then, she spotted them. They were alone, trying their best to get to the castle, but they were beset by Wolven from all sides. Neither of the twins ever stated that Saita had interfered with their fight, but she had to conclude that they were trying their best to survive and hadn’t noticed. There would be no way that they would manage to get through the swarm that lay before them.
Saita dove into the ranks of Wolven, dispatching them alongside the twins. The pack didn’t feel the need to take on three individuals when there were so many weaker stragglers they could be hunting. They bolted, and Saita breathed a sigh of relief. This was going much easier than expected.
That was, until Maxine wrapped her arms around her and burst into tears. Saita was never as sensitive as Bolx when it came to reading surface thoughts, but Maxine wasn’t trying to hide her feelings or thoughts.
Her mother, father, and older brother were all dead, and she had thought Saita had somehow survived. Saita sighed softly, knowing that she would have to break the heartbreaking news to the destroyed woman once again.
Saita looked up and noted Martin had swallowed the same tears his sister had and had fixed her with a hard look. He already knew that Saita wasn’t his mother. He tried to pull his sister back, but Maxine was blind to his attempts.
“I’m not who you think I am.” Said Saita at last.
Maxine released her as if burned. The look of shock on her face turned to one of distrust as her eyes traced Saita’s face and then her arms. Saita looked down and grumbled under her breath when he noticed her marks had made an appearance. She hadn’t even noticed during the fight.
“Who are you?” demanded Martin.
“I don’t have time to explain.” Said Saita as she felt what was happening in the castle behind her. She looked over her shoulder and then said, “The Fell Dragon is close, and we cannot meet yet. I need your help.”
“Why should we help you?”
Saita was surprised by the anger coming from Martin. He was the calmer of the twins when she had first met them. She was so busy concentrating on him that she was barely prepared for when Maxine threw herself at Saita. Saita didn’t have time for this.
As Maxine came within striking range, Saita stepped back and tapped the centre of the woman’s forehead as she flew past. Maxine crumpled into a heap. Saita almost expected Martin to attack her, but instead, he had a look of fear on his face.
“I didn’t hurt her.” Said Saita softly. “She’s sleeping for now. You need to listen to me.”
Martin dropped his defences but kept glancing over to his sister.
“Behind me, there is a creature that feeds on time and space. She and these Wolven creatures are ripping through universes and dimensions to fuel her.”
“Why?”
Saita hadn’t expected to explain herself. Martin hadn’t told her any of this. This part of the story would be for her to control, but there was only so much she could tell him. After all, he had had no idea that Kay was the Fell Dragon who was currently decimating his world.
“Because that is what Fell Dragons do. They feed upon the universe.”
“And who are you?”
Your mother, she signed, but not from this time.
Matin’s face fell, and the tears returned.
“I know this is bizarre, and all you want to do is to grab your sister and run and trust me, I understand. Hell, if I were in your position, I would run to, but I need you.”
A roar echoed from the castle, and Saita flinched. She couldn’t help but think of the first time she had come face-to-face with Red-Eye. She absentmindedly touched the old scar on her chest, remembering how helpless she had felt when she was pinned under him.
“Brucel will gain control.” Said Martin, full of conviction.
“No.” sighed Saita. “He won’t. His family will be dead soon, and the Fell Dragon will taunt him.”
Martin gritted his teeth and looked to his sister on the ground behind Saita. He didn’t trust Saita, and it was difficult for him, as she was wearing his mother’s face.
“You said you need our help. What do you want?” he finally muttered.
“Martin, I need you to go to Brucel. And give him a message.”
“Me! I’m no warrior like my sister.”
It wasn’t fear in his voice, but conviction. He knew he was no warrior, and he wanted no part of what Saita wanted him to do.

What choice does Saita have but to be manipulative at this point?
