Plants Are Trying to Kill Us

https://podcast.app/anthony-chaffee-on-the-carnivore-diet-and-plants-trying-to-kill-you-e334311434/

As crazy as it sounds, the plants have an incentive to become poison to the animals that eat them. They are unable to fight and they are unable to run away from animals. So what are members of the Plantae or Fungi kingdoms to do? Hopefully vegetables are selectively bred to be good for us over thousands of years, these plants become not only our foods but also our medicines. But let's hear this guy out.

Plants our trying to protect themselves, so if that means you have to die they are happy for that to happen.
— Dr. Anthony Chaffee

Plants have an evolutionary incentive to become poisonous. In fact we know more or less Hemlock can kill you (as it killed Socrates). Phytic acide will bind with other minerals in a way we cannot use it. Spinach has 600 mg of oxilates per cup and only a third of that per day can cause health problems.

All life is trying to protect itself in order to procreate

The perspective of Dr. Chaffee is that animals are not really meant to eat a variety of plants. We are not designed to eat all of these plants. It is like we are keyed to the foods we can eat. It makes sense that muscle meat which makes up most of us would be a perfect food and this is Dr. Chaffee's point of view.

Controversially he claims that human beings are not herbivores. We are properly designed to be carnivores. His reasoning is that we do not break the cellulose or fiber down. We know we cannot get vitamins that we cannot absorb, from plants.

I think this is worth listening to. I am considering doing a 30-day carnivore challenge....

Do your own research about it....

I hope you have come away with some interesting information from the podcast episode. I think it is worthy to find information on how to prepare food.

There is tremendous utility for us human beings to cook meat. Not only is it easier to digest for us, but it also kills parasites in the meat. This is well known but I point it out because I think we should put some thought on how we should prepare vegetables so we can get the most out of them. Soy beans should be soaked over night and the water discarded. I wonder how we should treat spinach for example. Can we breakdown the oxalate in the spinach someway without ruining the spinach?
