OpenAI says Robinhood's tokens aren't equity in the company
OpenAI said it was not involved in Robinhood’s launch of tokenized shares in Europe, warning users the assets were issued without its approval.
OpenAI is distancing itself from Robinhood's latest crypto push after the trading platform began offering tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX to users in Europe.
"These 'OpenAI tokens' are not OpenAI equity," OpenAI wrote on X. "We did not partner with Robinhood, were not involved in this, and do not endorse it."
The company said that "any transfer of OpenAI equity requires our approval — we did not approve any transfer," and warned users to "please be careful."
Robinhood announced the launch Monday from Cannes, France, as part of a broader product showcase focused on tokenized equities, staking, and a new blockchain infrastructure play. The company's stock surged above $100 to hit a new all-time high following the news.
"These tokens give retail investors indirect exposure to private markets, opening up access, and are enabled by Robinhood's ownership stake in a special purpose vehicle," a Robinhood spokesperson said in response to the OpenAI post.
Robinhood offered 5 euros worth of OpenAI and SpaceX tokens to eligible EU users who signed up to trade stock tokens by July 7. The assets are issued under the EU's looser investor restrictions via Robinhood's crypto platform.

The report, which cited two unnamed sources, said Trump was meeting in the Oval Office with military leaders about the F-47 when the Facebook founder “walked in unexpectedly.” Officialls allegedly asked Zuckerberg to wait outside due to concerns he didn’t have security clearance.
However, a senior White House official told The Post that the report had “mischaracterized” the situation.
“He was not asked to leave,” the official said. “He popped in to say hello at the president’s request, and then left to wait for his meeting with POTUS to begin, which was scheduled to occur after the meeting with the pilots.”

OpenAI says Robinhood's tokens aren't equity in the company
OpenAI said it was not involved in Robinhood’s launch of tokenized shares in Europe, warning users the assets were issued without its approval.
OpenAI is distancing itself from Robinhood's latest crypto push after the trading platform began offering tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX to users in Europe.
"These 'OpenAI tokens' are not OpenAI equity," OpenAI wrote on X. "We did not partner with Robinhood, were not involved in this, and do not endorse it."
The company said that "any transfer of OpenAI equity requires our approval — we did not approve any transfer," and warned users to "please be careful."
Robinhood announced the launch Monday from Cannes, France, as part of a broader product showcase focused on tokenized equities, staking, and a new blockchain infrastructure play. The company's stock surged above $100 to hit a new all-time high following the news.
"These tokens give retail investors indirect exposure to private markets, opening up access, and are enabled by Robinhood's ownership stake in a special purpose vehicle," a Robinhood spokesperson said in response to the OpenAI post.
Robinhood offered 5 euros worth of OpenAI and SpaceX tokens to eligible EU users who signed up to trade stock tokens by July 7. The assets are issued under the EU's looser investor restrictions via Robinhood's crypto platform.
"This is about expanding access," said Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's SVP and GM of crypto. "The goal with tokenization is to let anyone participate in this economy."
The episode highlights the dynamic between crypto platforms seeking to democratize access to financial products and the companies whose names and equity are being represented on-chain
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin wants the crypto industry to grow up fast — stressing that the industry is at an “inflection point.” Speaking in front of a packed room at the Ethereum Community Conference, in Cannes, France, Buterin used his keynote to deliver a clear-eyed reality check: decentralization, he argued, must evolve from a catchphrase to a concrete set of user guarantees — or risk becoming another hollow promise. As the industry has gone mainstream with endorsements from major corporations and political figures, builders need to return to the ecosystem’s key ideals surrounding decentralization and building for users' needs, Buterin said. In his typical jeans and relaxed dark t-shirt uniform, Buterin laid out practical “tests” that he said every crypto project should pass.
These include 1) the walk-away test. If the company behind an application disappears, do users keep their assets? And 2) the insider attack test: How much damage can rogue insiders or compromised front-ends cause? And 3) whether it has a trusted computing base: How many lines of code must be trusted to protect users’ funds or data? He warned that too many layer-2 networks, DeFi projects and “decentralized” front-ends rely on hidden backdoors, instant upgrade buttons or insecure interfaces that can be tampered with and hacked.

The report that Zuckerberg was “asked to leave” the president’s office during a White House visit last winter surfaced Wednesday in a lengthy NBC News report about the inner workings of President Trump’s West Wing.
The report, which cited two unnamed sources, said Trump was meeting in the Oval Office with military leaders about the F-47 when the Facebook founder “walked in unexpectedly.” Officialls allegedly asked Zuckerberg to wait outside due to concerns he didn’t have security clearance.
However, a senior White House official told The Post that the report had “mischaracterized” the situation.
“He was not asked to leave,” the official said. “He popped in to say hello at the president’s request, and then left to wait for his meeting with POTUS to begin, which was scheduled to occur after the meeting with the pilots.”
Meta declined to comment.
The sources who spoke to NBC News said officials involved in the meeting “came away mystified and a bit unnerved” by the loose environment. One person reportedly described the fighter jet meeting as “bizarro world.”

Zuckerberg was deemed the most unlikeable Big Tech CEO, with 63% of Trump voters stating they had an unfavorable view of him, according to a survey conducted by the watchdog group Tech Oversight Project and Public Policy Polling.
The NBC News report said that Trump’s key Cabinet secretaries are a fixture in the West Wing and frequently visit with his closest advisers, including chief of staff Susie Wiles and deputy chief Stephen Miller.
Trump reportedly affectionately refers to Wiles as the “Ice Maiden,” with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich telling the outlet that she attends “virtually every meeting that matters.”
“President Trump has assembled the greatest cabinet in American history—a group of talented individuals who embody the diverse coalition that delivered his historic election victory,” White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich said in a statement in response to the report.
“Cabinet Member and White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, has played an integral role in operationalizing his agenda through his administration and has ensured everyone is empowered with the tools to deliver on the president’s mandate,” Budowich added.
