5 minutes freewrite on the prompt: Respect me
Good day friends! I feel happy having the opportunity to share my writing on today's prompt with everyone.
Theme: Respect me
Mike and Joe, were the twin brothers and only children of their parents. Their Dad was a lawyer while their Mom was a civil servant.
They lived in a happy home until the worst happened to them.
Their Dad had been on a murder case as a lawyer, and his opposition group had tried all means to put him down but to no avail. They tried bribing him but he preferred justice over affluence. The case was so serious that the opposition side had to send assassins to attack his family.
One day, while the twin brothers were returning from a family outing with their parents in the early evening, their car was intercepted by a bike and their parents were assassinated leaving the twins alone in the car.
After some years when Mike and Joe grew to become youths, they began to realize the need to cater for themselves and leave their grandparents’ home. For Mike, the younger twin, he made up his mind to join the military since they didn't complete their tertiary education. But for Joe, the elder brother, he contemplated joining the military and in the meantime, he tried applying for some manual jobs.
After so many failed applications, Joe decided to join the military since his brother is excelling. After Joe joined the military, he found out his younger brother, Mike, had a higher rank than him.
It is due that whenever a senior officer walks to a junior officer, he salutes and shows some respect. But for Joe, he often felt Mike is his junior brother and didn't follow the process.
One day, Mike and his assistant walked into a gathering of some junior officers including Joe. Everyone stood up immediately and saluted but Joe didn't make a move.
This prompted Mike to raise voice at him, “Look Big Bro, you have to respect me, show some respect. This is the military , not family.”
This marked the day Joe began holding a grudge for his younger brother. But as time went on, Joe began to realize he was at fault and reconciled with his brother and this attracted more benefits to him in the barracks.
For me, rules are meant to be followed no matter the age or fame. There may be other junior officers who are older than Mike but still respect him because it's due. Joe should have followed rules and avoided his brother's follow-up actions which lead him to keeping grudges.
NOTE: This story is fictional.
