Kcontest #10 // My Experiences with Korean Culture

Hello everyone, my name is Haleemah and my hive user name is @leemah1. I am from Nigeria and I love to explore other people's language but I'm a slow learner, maybe that's because I am a lazy introvert. I love reading and watching movies. I'm lazy when it comes to sports but aside that, I'm a complete gentle woman you will ever see.

For the past few years, I’ve become increasingly immersed in Korean culture, and it has been an eye-opening and rewarding journey. And it all stems from watching K-Dramas and K-Pop to watching the Korean movies and even aspects of daily Korean life, the culture has captivated me in so many ways.

I was first exposed to Korean culture through K-Dramas. The first Korean movies I watched then was The King's Daughter. The desperation of wanted to be part of the rich family and the betrayal of the loved one make me like the drama and this particular drama get me addicted to k-drama. Also, watching Crash Landing on You during the pandemic, and it was nothing like anything I had seen before. The storytelling was emotional, layered, and beautifully shot.

I was impressed by how deeply the characters were developed and how the story blended romance with comedy, and drama all at once. Even though I’ve watched many more dramas like Itaewon Class, Goblin, and Hospital Playlist I still keep loving Crash Landing On You anytime the title pop up. Each series opened a new window into Korean society, values, and even history.

Korean movies have also made a huge impact on me. I don't even know how to watch other movies, it's either Korean dramas, Korean movies or nothing. I wonder how I've not understand the language yet, it's been years already.

Then there is K-Pop which I initially didn’t think I would get into but it got me too, once I started listening, I was hooked. Groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, and TWICE introduced me to a whole new world of music and performance. The level of professionalism and talent in the K-Pop industry is incredible. K-pop is not just about the music, it’s the choreography, the fashion, the fan culture, and the connection between idols and fans that make K-Pop so unique. There is no way you won't get impressed by the dedication and hard work that goes into every of their performance and comeback.

All those movies and dramas have really rubbed off on me, it has broadened my perspective globally. It has introduced me to amazing entertainment and I'm always entertaining, there is no dulling moment. I've learnt to appreciate the language and Inspire me to learn even if it is just the basic. Learning more about Korea’s traditions, food, and language is one of my bucket lists. It’s a culture that continues to surprise and inspire me.

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
