To The Two Women Who Carried My World: My Mama & My Sister

Sometimes in life, we don’t always get the chance to say the things that really matter. We get busy, we grow older, and we let time move faster than our emotions. But today, I just want to pause and say a big thank you to the two women who shaped me into who I am, my mother and my senior sister.

You both have been my backbone from day one. Life didn’t exactly give us a soft landing, but somehow you both held the house down. And me? I was just the last born, watching and learning from your strength, even when I didn’t understand everything going on.

My dad passed away in 2001. I was still small when he died. But I wasn’t left empty, because God gave me a mother who became everything, both dad and mum. She never remarried. She stayed. For us.

Mama, I don’t even know where to start. You carried the weight of five children on your back and never let us fall. I saw you struggle, I saw you go through sleepless nights just to make sure we never lacked. You gave up so much just so we could have something. Even when we didn’t have much, your presence alone gave us peace. You’re not just my mother, you’re my first inspiration. All that I am building now in my digital marketing journey, you planted the discipline in me.

And to my senior sister, I owe you big. You were like a second mum to me. You stepped in whenever Mama was tired. You protected me, corrected me, and guided me like a big sister should. But even more, you inspired me. You didn’t just talk, you showed me by your actions. Your hustle, your strength, your ability to carry the family like it’s your full-time job. Sometimes I even wonder where you got that fire from. Now that I’m grown, I see how much you did and still doing.

Both of you kept me focused. You both didn’t have it easy, but you made sure I could still dream. That I could still go to school, still chase a career, and still be something in this world. If I’m pushing now, if I’m building my brand and working my way in digital marketing, it’s because you gave me the foundation. You gave me belief.

This letter might not be enough, and I know no amount of thank yous can equal the sacrifices both of you have made for me. But still, I want to say it, thank you. I see everything now. The stress, the pain, the things you both did behind the scenes that nobody even noticed.

I pray God bless you both in ways even my words can’t express. I want to succeed, not just for me, but for you. So you both can smile one day and say, “Yes, it was worth it.”

With love and respect always,
Your boy, Taiwo.

Awwww... I hope you send them a link to this post because this is such a beautiful read. Nothing is more satisfying to see than siblings coming through for each other. I'm glad that you have this relationship with your sister. More so, a mother's love is unconditional and the only thing we can do is recognise it just like you've done.
