Try To Draw Oil Pastel Portrait Again

$1

Hello, how are you? I've been using my oil pastels and decided to draw a portrait again. Yesterday, the weather was not that hot and bearable, so an idea came to my mind. The funny thing is I made a sketchbook for all the portraits I draw using oil pastel, but I did not stick to the plan and use it as a planner, sketching pencil, etc, etc. But it still has an empty page, so I decided to draw on it.

So I found a reference from Pinterest and decided she is the one. LOL

Materials I Used:

  • Oil Pastel
  • Notebook
  • Scraper
  • Reference

The Process:

I used this pink oil pastel to draw the reference, it didn't have to be perfect. I think I did a good job. I guess at least my muscle memory still works.

Then I use this Brown oil pastel to fix the line art.

7.JPG

8.JPG

After that, I used this yellow ochre to fill the skin.

9.JPG

10.JPG

Then I layer the line art with darker line art using Vandyke brown oil pastel.

11.JPG

12.JPG

To add more redness to her, I use this pink oil pastel layer.

13.JPG

14.JPG

Then I started filling the lips with red oil pastel.

15.JPG

16.JPG

Next is I used Ultramarine to fill up the eyes.

17.JPG

18.JPG

Next is I used this pale orange to layer the skin.

19.JPG

20.JPG

After that, I use this pale brown to layer the other colors.

21.JPG

22.JPG

Next is I use Vermillion to add more saturation to the blush and lips.

24.JPG

25.JPG

After that, I use this black oil pastel to add more intense dark to the part that needed to be darkened.

27.JPG

28.JPG

Using this Vandyke brown, I fill the hair with it.

29.JPG

30.JPG

Using the black oil pastel, I added more darker shadow on that part that needed to be layered.

33.JPG

34.JPG

I used this yellow-green oil pastel to layer the skin.

35.JPG

36.JPG

Next is I am going to use this gray oil pastel to blend the hair and the clothes.

37.JPG

38.JPG

For the final layer, I used this white oil pastel to blend the skin.

39.JPG

40.JPG

After that I decided to use this clay tool to scrape the oil pastel portrait to add texture.

41.JPG

43.JPG

Then I sign it using this colored pencil.

46.JPG

Here is the final portrait.

Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
Please take care of your mental health as well.
I hope you are okay today :))

Drawing with Pastel? Without an error or mistake or something?
So how do you erase if some part isn't to your taste or if there is an error? Is that possible?
I prefer to make sketches with pencil so I can easily erase my messes lol.
That's why I envy people who make ink drawing and paintings, those people are mini goddess cause they have to be very careful not to make a mess of their canvas

What I do is I used a light oil pastel like I used in the process and then when I started adding layer of the top of it will get covered. That is the magic of oil pastel.
😁

I do the same thing too but when the reference is complicated lol.

That is true I envy those people too 😁

Oh dear!
I don't know if I can do that, but seeing people draw this way seems interesting to me.

Your piece really did turn out great!
