Still Life Tulips in Vase Oil Pastel
Hello, how are you? While I was doing oil pastel yesterday, and suddenly something hit me, I didn't have a lot of red shades on my oil pastel, and I wondered if I should continue finishing it. I was like, I can do it xD And thank god I did finish it and I love it, it makes my head hurt but worth it LOL.
I feel down these few days, and if I don't have this kind of hobbies, I can't imagine myself how the heck I am going to deal with this. By the way, this is the link for the reference.
Materials I Used:
- Oil Pastel
- Paper
- Scraper
- Reference
Let's Draw!
Using this gray oil pastel, I sketched the reference by free hand, because why not? LOL. Internally, I was debating if this was going to be a good outcome, but I just trusted the process.
I doubt this part, because this time I realize I don't have much red shades on my oil pastels, but what's worse going to happen? Just go for it :D
In oil pastel, always start with a darker shade of the color you're going to use, and I used this dark green oil pastel to draw the leaves.
I just realized that I have darker orange on my oil pastel, and I feel relieved after seeing it, so I used it because some parts needed orange, like the tulips.
I have limited oil pastel, so if that shade is close to the reference, that pastel is the one, LOL.
I used this pink to draw some tulips that have a pink shade.
I started filling the vase with shades of red and orange. It is still looking flat, but trust the process.
I started to fill in the background little by little.
For this part, I start adding darker colors to the reference to add more contrast to it.
For this part, I am adding highlights to the reference.
To add texture, I use this scraper from my clay tools and just scrape out the oil pastel.
