Still Life Sunflower in Vase Oil Pastel (1).gif

Hello, how are you? Have you been thinking about what to give your family? I am still debating whether I should give them handmade items or buy something useful for them. And I came to the conclusion that why not give both? Maybe that will work.

I keep stressing about it, actually, hahaha. Yesterday we went to the mall, and oh boy, a lot of people were buying presents, and I don’t think I can do physical shopping if there is online shopping out there LOL.

While I was stressing about things to give for Christmas, I decided to draw something to remove that stress using Oil Pastels, and I love to draw flowers, especially sunflowers.

Materials I Used:

  • Oil Pastel
  • Sketchbook
  • Reference
  • Scratching Tool

Let's Draw!

I prepared all the material I needed before I started so that everything would be easily accessible when I needed it.

For the line art, I start with using a dark oil pastel, which is brown, and then I start sketching the outline of the sunflowers, so that when I start doing the line art, it is easier for me to do it.

The sunflower I chose is the one with fewer petals but more of the outer part, which is greener, so yeah.

Then I drew the petals, but just the outline, just like I did to the first one. And then I started to add color to the background. Just go with the flow.

I just decided to go with the flow and draw where the background is so that I know what place not to draw. I just do it lightly first. Then I start layering some parts.

Then I added more layers to build the contrast. I like to do a light to darker layer just to balance the color and not ruin it.

Now it is starting to look like a real sunflower. I just keep layering it.

I added more darker color to the part where the shadow is to make it more like it is dimensional.

Filling the background makes the subject pop out more, so yeah, I used to do the background for the final, but I guess I just do it, and I don't regret any of it.

Finish it with a scratch to reveal the highlight and to add texture to the drawing, too.

Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
Please take care of your mental health as well.
I hope you are okay today :))
