Pentel Oil Pastels for $5!? Unboxing and Trying It.

1.JPG

Hello, how are you!? Last time I have been buying and collecting budget-friendly oil pastels, and this one I bought is my very first oil pastel brand I inherited from my brother in his artist era, but stopped when he graduated from primary school.

So I have had my old pastels for years now, and I decided it is time to buy the 50 colors for my own good, and that time I was at my lowest time, so this makes me feel better just a little bit. Actually, I do a lot of art using it, and I guess investing in it is not bad. And it is only for $5 with a discount, which is a win-win for me.

Unboxing Time!

I waited for days for this because I ordered it overseas, I got excited when I the a notification from the courier that my order is on delivery.

I felt relieved that nothing was broken or damaged, it got delivered safely. I got a pretty alot of discount from buying it, so I went for it and checked it out.

The second I opened it, I knew it was the Pentel oil pastels because of the smell LOL. I think I got used to it.

The oil pastels contain 50 pieces of color, but one is extra white, so it 49. I really like this gray-green, so this is one of the colors that caught my eye.

Of course, I am going to make a swatch out of it. Pentel is notorious for crumbs when using, but it is not an issue for me.

Purple ones are super crumbly and have a semi-transparent texture. These are the swatches of all the oil pastels. I really like it, and having a swatch is good for reference, too.

Please do not mind my handwriting LOL.

This pale green caught my eye, and I am so excited to use it.

I like this bluegreen and dark green too.

For the next process, I am going to try the pastels if they are good enough for the price and the quality.

Let's Draw!

1.JPG

2.JPG

That time, it was the season of rambutan, so we had a lot of it and I decided I draw it in real time. I start with the line art. Filling some part with red first. The pastel is soft and easy to work with.

3.JPG

4.JPG

And then I fill the other rambutan with red, making sure not to fill all of it, just the part that needs to be filled.

5.JPG

6.JPG

And then I layer it with yellow-orange oil pastel where the middle colors are.

7.JPG

8.JPG

And then I added more layers of darker shades to the place where shadow is, and then I added more green to the hairy part of the rambutan, and then I added just a tiniest bit of background color.

9.JPG

10.JPG

To make it more dimensional, I added more darkness to the shadow of the drawing.

12.JPG

13.JPG

Using this tool, I added texture and highlights to the drawing.

19.JPG

20.JPG

I really like how it turned out, and what I observed is that the formula of the oil pastel is better than the old one, and it is more opaque now, and the quality is top-tier.

Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
Please take care of your mental health as well.
I hope you are okay today :))

One of my selected colors it's an oil pastel, I tried it before when I'm joining a slogan in my school and that's what I used, but I used it carefully because when the color stain in other parts but not the color I've wanted to put the colored will mix and got wrong. Love it also to used even if it's hard, the color is giving.

Greetings,
The rambutan drawing has its special appealing to viewers.
It is not easy to get these details, and layering right to succeed in this project.
How do you handle the crumbly texture of the pastels?

Thank you! I think you just need to get use to it and clean after crumbling to avoid smudging each color 😁

Greetings 🤗 Seriously, how beautiful. I am impressed with the quality of the material, how it colors and looks. I liked that you did the quality test and actually made a larger sample with a more complete job. Because you paint a lot.
